    No full text
Objective: This study aimed to determine dysmenorrhea prevalence and menstruation characteristics among young girls and whether dysmenorrhea affects the use of analgesics. Methods: This cross-sectional study was conducted in female university students who applied to Baskent University's Medicosocial Center. Results: There were 190 participants in the dysmenorrhea group and 80 participants in the control group. The prevalence of dysmenorrhea was 70%. Reading of the drug prospectus in the dysmenorrhea group was higher than in the control group (69.9% vs. 46.8%, p < 0.05). Recommending her own drug to someone else (67.8% versus 53.3%, p < 0.05) and not paying attention to the recommended drug use period (72.5% vs. 59.7%; p < 0.05) was higher in the dysmenorrhea group than in the control group. In the dysmenorrhea group, the reasons to take the last pain relievers were headache or abdominal pain in the same order as the control group and the rate of abdominal pain was higher in the study group (30.0% versus 11.5%, p < 0.05). The inability to remember the name of the last used pain reliever was higher in the study group (24.2% versus 17.5%, p < 0.05). The rate of knowing the name of any three different pain relievers was higher in the study group (81.6% versus 80.4%, p < 0.05). Conclusion: University students who are in need of medication due to diseases more frequently encounter drugs. Developing behaviors on rational drug use in these students may provide productive results. It may be effective to organize contact meetings for students on the use of non-prescription drugs

Introduction: In this multicenter study, we analysed the magnitude of healthcare worker (HCW) [infection control practitioner (ICP), nurses and others] workforce in hospitals participated in the study. Materials and Methods: This study was performed in 41 hospitals (with intensive care units-ICU) located in 22 cities from seven regions of Turkey. We analysed the ICP workforce, nursing and auxiliary HCW (AHCW) workforce in ICUs, number of ICU beds and occupied beds in four different days [two of which were in summer during the vacation time (August 27 and 31, 2016) and two others in autumn (October 12 and 15, 2016)]. The Turkish Ministry of Health (TMOH) requires two patients per nurse in level 3 ICUs, three patients per nurse in level 2 ICUs and five patients per nurse in level 1 ICUs. There is no standardization for the number of AHCW in ICUs. Finally, one ICP per 150 hospital beds is required by TMOH. Results: The total number of ICUs, ICU beds and ICPs were 214, 2377 and 111, respectively in he 41 participated centers. The number ICPs was adequate only in 12 hospitals. The percentage of nurses whose working experience was 2. The number of patients per other HCW was minimum 3.75 and maximum 4.89 on weekdays and on day shift while it was minimum 5.02 and maximum 7.7 on weekends or on night shift. When we compared the number of level 1, 2 and 3 ICUs with adequate nursing workforce vs inadequate nursing workforce, the p value was <0.0001 at all time points except summer weekend night shift (p=0.002). Conclusion: Our data suggest that ICP workforce is inadequate in Turkey. Besides, HCW workforce is inadequate and almost 1/4 of nurses are relatively inexperienced especially in level 3 ICUs. Turkish healthcare system should promptly make necessary arrangements for adequate HCW staffing

Ultrasound Elastography and Magnetic Resonance Imaging Findings of Breast Angiosarcoma Mimicking a Benign Lesion by Elastography: A Case Report

    No full text
Introduction: Primary and secondary angiosarcomas of the breast are rare neoplasms. Radiologically, magnetic resonance imaging, mammography, and ultrasound (US) findings of angiosarcomas have been reported previously. However, ultrasound (US) elastography findings of angiosarcoma have not been reported yet. Currently, US elastography should be used commonly to decide biopsy or short-term follow-up of breast lesions. Case Presentation: A 39-year-old female from Adana, Turkey, was admitted to Dr.Turgut Noyan Adana Teaching and Medical Research Center at the breast center of Baskent University, with a palpable right breast mass, which had been enlarging for one year in 2015. Our breast center is a tertiary referral center. B-mode US and US elastography findings suggested that the lesion was benign; however, magnetic resonance imaging showed a mass enhancing intensely at early phases with rapid wash out. The final diagnosis of the mastectomy specimen confirmed low-grade angiosarcoma. If the recommendation would have been based on the elastography findings, it would have been catastrophic because angiosarcomas tend to rapidly increase in size. Conclusions: B-mode US and elastography findings of breast angiosarcoma may mimic benign lesions

Purpose: The aim of this study is to examine the effect of personality traits, gender, age and effects of dispositional hope level in problematic internet usage of university students. Research Methods: This paper is an example of a descriptive study, which presents the relationship between problematic internet usage of university students considering personality traits, gender, age and dispositional hope level. The study group consists of 376 students from different universities. Research data was collected by using the Problematic Internet Usage Scale, The Big Five Inventory, and the Dispositional Hope Scale. In the analysis of data, parametric tests were used. Findings: It has been observed that as neuroticism increases, excessive usage also increases; as conscientiousness increases, excessive usage of the internet decreases. As openness, extraversion and neuroticism increase, the effects of negative results of internet usage increase; as conscientiousness increases, the effects of negative results of internet usage decrease. At the same time, it can be said that as hope levels increase, the negative effects of internet usage decrease. All of these results can be interpreted as variables, except being an extravert does not have a practical value. Implications for Research and Practice: Based on the results, it was suggested that evaluation of results related to the studies made with high school students and adults will contribute to the field. In future studies, relationships between different usage fields of internet and problematic internet usage can be examined. The results would be helpful for prevention and intervention programs. No full text
Background: Gestational diabetes is defined as glucose intolerance which is first recognized in pregnancy. Oral glucose tolerance test (OGTT) is the cornerstone in diagnosing gestational diabetes. Placental elasticity evaluation is relatively new concept and is principally used for research purposes. We aimed to find any relation between placental elasticity evaluation and patients of gestational diabetes diagnosed by 75 g OGTT. Methods: There were 91 patients took part in study, forming two groups as gestational diabetic patients (21 patients) and control group (70 patients). Elasticity of placenta was determined by acoustic radiation force impulse technology utilized by two blinded radiology specialists. Results: We were not able to find any correlation between 75 g OGTT values and placental elasticity measurements (p > .05). Also placental elasticity was not found to be significantly different in two groups (p > .05). Conclusion: Placental elasticity measurement on the 24th-28th weeks does not seem to be a marker for identification of gestational diabetes. Copyright (C) 2017, the Chinese Medical Association. No full text
Today’s banking sector has undergone tremendous and serious transformations since its first appearance on history pages. The most important function of the banking sector in the economy is to bring together business owners with financial resources, in other words capital and entrepreneurs. This provides great benefits to the economies of the countries in which they are located. Another function that is important in the macroeconomic dimension is the transfer of funds to the financial system to the sectors and sectors that will most support economic development. Another area benefiting from the activities of the banking sector is the struggle with the informal economy. The existence and size of the informal economy is closely related to the state’s taxation system, which is the source of income. For this reason, the existence of informal economic activities has a great influence on the development of the country. Over time, the banking sector has undergone major changes in order to be able to serve its customers better and to be more easily accessible. Today’s world banking is now active in virtual branches and 24-hour call centers. It is understood from the sudden rise of the data in the tables in the last part of the study that the Turkish banking sector can keep up with these innovations that have spread rapidly in the global world. Banks that have an effective role in all aspects of the economy have developed their systems so rapidly in our country that it is promising for the development and sustainability of the economy
