Goliarda Sapienza sceneggiatrice: il caso "I delfini" attraverso un carteggio inedito

No full text
Around Goliarda Sapienza, who passed away in 1996, a prolific research is underway, which mainly examines her literary aspect, at a time when her books have crossed the national borders to become such literary success as L’arte della gioia. We know very little about her short yet intense career as an actress – on both theatre shows and movies – and especially about her intense role in the film industry, behind the camera, as assistant director, screenwriter, voice-over actress or assistant to actors, never fully credited along her partner, director Citto Maselli. This work aims at highlighting an original aspect in Sapienza, adding a new key point both in her artistic life and in the national film scene. The main focus is on her role as screenwriter as decisively revealed in detail by an intense and rich unpublished epistolary between her and Maselli, over the 50s and the 60s. Letters, diaries and several statements helped outlining a more precise and detailed artistic profile, which led to ascertain Sapienza’s role as screenwriter, especially for the film I delfini (1960), specific case study of this work. The unpublished documents examined here prove to be extremely rich of information and cast an entirely new light on Goliarda Sapienza’s artistic figure and on Citto Maselli’s films

Il Problema del male nella Gerusalemme Liberata di Torquato Tasso

No full text
The present work is proposed to inquire the controversial issue of evil within the Tasso’s Gerusalemme Liberata. Through the analysis of the structural, thematic and stylistic aspects of the poem and a comparative study of the poet’s early texts, our research is mostly concentrated on the contents and on the dynamics of moral evil which concerns the sphere of action and the behaviours of Tasso’s characters. Particular attention is addressed to the fascinating nature of evil and to the attractiveness that arouses through beauty. Starting from the philosophical influences, Aristotelian and Platonic, we are also going to linger on the crucial issue of knowledge. Finally, the last part is dedicated to the treatment of both natural and physical evil which, responsible of human pain and sorrow, introduces to the thorny issue of God benevolence

Investigation of the molecular mechanisms inducing vascular damage in systemic sclerosis

No full text
Purposes - This study was conducted to investigate whether oxidative stress and Endothelial-to-Mesenchymal Transition (EndMT) may be part of the molecular machinery inducing vascular damage in systemic sclerosis (SSc). The possibility that iloprost, a drug commonly used in SSc therapy, might modulate the above-mentioned biological phenomena was also investigated. Results - Sera from SSc patients markedly increased ROS levels, proliferation, and collagen synthesis in human pulmonary microvascular endothelial cells (HPMECs). Interestingly, SSc sera taken after 5 hours of iloprost infusion could attenuate ROS levels and collagen synthesis. Preliminary results show that SSc sera induced the conversion of ECs into myofibroblasts through decreasing the endothelial marker, von Willebrand Factor, and increasing α-smooth muscle actin, the myofibroblastic marker. Conclusion - Exposition of HPMECs to pro-oxidant factors present in SSc sera increased disease-associated physio-pathological phenomena such as intracellular ROS levels and collagen synthesis. Reduction of the above-mentioned phenomena by iloprost suggests a potential antioxidant effect of this drug. Preliminary data demonstrate the presence of an SSc sera-induced EndMT, indicating this phenotypic shift as an important etiological mechanism of SSc-associated vascular damage and a potential therapeutic target to inhibit obliterative vascular disorder and tissue fibrosis

Radiographic and ultrasonographic examinations of the horse’s stifle, in presence of flattening of the lateral trochlear ridge and effusion of articular compartments: the effect of the X-ray tube positioning in the detection of flattening in the lateromedial view variations and effect of agonistic effort in highlighting subtle ultrasonographic findings

No full text
Different radiographic projections for views considered as lateromedial were examined and divided in groups. Using a method based in the Pythagorean Theorem, the distance between lateral and medial femoral condyles borders was calculated and then proportionally corrected to the diaphyseal thickness. Five categories for each axis were created and compared. Results show that radiographs with an X-Ray tube positioning within the ±5% from an exact lateromedial view in the X Axis, are statistically more effective to reveal flattenings (p<0.05). Synovial effusion is a sign of synovitis and even though it can be accompanied by pain, in sound horses can be present also. Ultrasonographic measurements were carried on the medial femorotibial recess and lateral femoropatellar recess of sound horses used in competition to see if the ultrasound scan could reveal an influence of the size of these recesses in presence or absence of subtle lesions. Two different gallop activities were compared. In racetrack gallop flat racers, the side with most biomechanical stress (inner circle) showed to have larger measurements in the presence of subtle lesions (p<0.05) for the right lateral femoropatellar recess. When comparing two isolated populations of horses radiographically, sBs and Sardinian horses, no statistical differences were found between the presence or absence of lateral trochlear ridge flattenings in the lateral femoral ridge in the present study (p>0.05)

Olive zoning: analysis of environmental: influences on monovarietal olive oils (Bosana cultivar)

No full text
The characterization and differentiation of olive oil high-quality production play a key role in ensuring adequate levels of income for workers in the sector and to reward the merchandise, sensory, and health quality aspects. Furthermore, the development and implementation of new tools and methodologies is more and more required by the European Community in a framework of food security. In this context, the main aim of the thesis is to explore the relationships between the environment factors and the virgin olive oils (EVOO) composition and microbiological quality in the double perspective of characterization and food safety, in order to increase and disseminate knowledge among consumers and operators in the olive oil chain. The EVOO productions deriving from the most widespread cultivar in Sardinia (Italy) were characterized and differentiated in terms of chemical components on the basis of their growing area, and the influence of environmental factors on oil quality was explored through NMR spectroscopy integrated with multivariate statistic and Geographic Information System. Then, microbial species were isolated, selected, and identified in EVOO products. The results (i) showed the potential of the proposed methodology for the construction of flexible and scalable chemometric models suitable to be applied for the zoning and protection of valuable products; and (ii) encouraged more studies and researches to clarify the role played by microbiological components

Prospezioni magnetiche applicate all'archeologia: metodologia, analisi e casi di studio sui villaggi medievali abbandonati

No full text
The geomagnetic analysis can detect buried archaeological structures by measuring the contrast between the value of the earth's magnetic field and anomalies (objects, structures, etc.) in the subsurface, recognizable for their eventual induced magnetism (fires, pottery etc.). The geophysical surveys, conducted in the territories of Meilogu and Anglona, aim to study the sites of deserted medieval villages, both previously investigated by surveys or stratigraphic excavations and not yet analyzed from archaeological perspective. The study aims to check the increase of information to the reading of archaeological traces buried, to define internal planimetry. The five cases presented show the different responses of the magnetometric potential at different sites for geomorphological features. Each geomagnetic survey provides for a preliminary study of the geographical and geo-pedological context and of processes of formation of the archaeological record, as well as studying historical archives of written sources. Reading data and the survey procedures, designed and led by an archaeologist, needs the development of models and documentation procedures, with the compilation of numerous forms, that are inserted, along with maps of magnetic anomalies identified and their interpretation, in a queried GIS platform

Biodiversity, grazing, wildfires and management of Quercus suber forest in the mountain of Bitti-Buddusò (NE Sardinia)

No full text
Quercus suber species grows in a narrow region bordering the western Mediterranean. The importance of cork oak lies in the fact that cork material constitutes a valuable sustainable source of income. Nevertheless, anthropic activities have strongly affected these landscapes i.e. fires, overgrazing and inappropriate cork harvesting. This thesis describes cork oak forest situation in the Mountain of Bitti-Buddusò, using data from five different floristic composition studies and the economical plan of silvo-pastoral goods of Buddusò, in addition to the phytosociological study that we conducted in 2015. Overall, 362 species were encountered with the dominance of therophytes (44.5%) followed by hemicryptophytes (32%), which presence indicates a high period of summer aridity and the inclusion of areas related to grazing. The chorological spectrum showed the prevalence of Steno and Euri-Mediterranean species (34.1 and 26.9%, respectively) revealing thus the Mediterranean character in which cork oak forests insure an optimum vegetative growth. Moreover, we gathered data from two wildfires that occurred between 2012 and 2014 to examine the post-fire tree responses. The most common response type was crown and basal resprouting (71.8%). Vulnerability to fire was higher in older and stripped trees. Additionally, stocking rate registered a lower density (0.62 heads/ha) than that observed 50 years earlier, which shows the importance of grazing management in multi-ownership lands

Il Ruolo delle comunità nella Governance delle aree rurali

No full text
Identity, afliation, community, trust, social capital, local development and governance are the key words argued in this dissertation. Our our objective is to describe and to analyze — through a predominantly sociological and methodological individualistic approach — the key words’s conceptual and real problems whic arise when the governance’s principles are applied in design and implementation of local development policies in rural areas. Refections in terms of “multifunctionality” as a economic opportunity and a full development of local and social resources in rural areas, favoring at the same time communities participation in processes of territorial governance. Themes are critically analyzed from the perspective of rural areas governance, underlining the positive and inclusive aspects — but also the negative ones — that governance tools implementation can had to advance the difusion of trust and social capital in the local communities to promote a participatory model of civil society in the design and implementation of policies in order to achieve a sustainable local development

Service quality of airports' food and beverage retailers: a fuzzy approach

No full text
Nowadays the profitability of airports is largely based on non-aeronautical or commercial activities, and particularly on retail and food and beverage services. Further, researchers concur that shopping, eating and drinking in airports have to be considered an important part of tourists' experience and activities that can significantly enhance or damage the tourist destination image. Despite this, there is still little research that analyses how service quality (SQ) is perceived by passengers consuming food and beverages (F&B) in airport areas. This study aims to deepen the scientific debate on this topic. Specifically, this study applies fuzzy numbers with a sample of 551 passengers flying from Olbia-Costa Smeralda Airport (Sardinia Region, Italy) with the aim of determining how they perceive the SQ delivered by F&B retailers and whether age plays a determinant role in segmentation. Findings reveal which F&B features outperform others; furthermore, they show that age is a moderating factor in consumer satisfaction, with older passengers being less satisfied than their counterparts. This study adds knowledge to the literature devoted to SQ, applying a fuzzy number approach to the under-investigated research area related to F&B consumption in airport areas. Further, it provides information useful to airport managers on the features of F&B services that are most important in shaping consumer satisfaction, based also on their age. Limitations of the study are also discussed and suggestions for future research are given

Morphofunctional alterations in ventral tegmental area dopamine neurons in acute and prolonged opiates withdrawal. A computational perspective

No full text
Dopamine (DA) neurons of the ventral tegmental area (VTA) play a key role in the neurobiological basis of goal-directed behaviors and addiction. Morphine (MOR) withdrawal induces acute and long-term changes in the morphology and physiology of VTA DA cells, but the mechanisms underlying these modifications are poorly understood. Because of their predictive value, computational models are a powerful tool in neurobiological research, and are often used to gain further insights and deeper understanding on the molecular and physiological mechanisms underlying the development of various psychiatric disorders. Here we present a biophysical model of a DA VTA neuron based on 3D morphological reconstruction and electrophysiological data, showing how opiates withdrawal-driven morphological and electrophysiological changes could affect the firing rate and discharge pattern. The model findings suggest how and to what extent a change in the balance of GABA/GLU inputs can take into account the experimentally observed hypofunction of VTA DA neurons during acute and prolonged withdrawal, whereas morphological changes may play a role in the increased excitability of VTA DA cell to opiate administration observed during opiate withdrawal
