Megan Gonzales is a senior Political Science major from Jackson, 
Tennessee. She is a member of the Pi Sigma Alpha political science 
honors society, the Phi Alpha Theta history honors society, and the 
American Studies Institute. She intends to pursue a career in 
environmental law.

VAN GOGH EXHIBIT

Works of art are known to be subjective to the point that 
100 people could look at the same painting and have many 
different interpretations of what it depicts to the viewer. With the 
Van Gogh Immersive Experience, the viewer could only be so 
subjective because you were allowed to learn about his life and the 
different works of art he created during specific periods. Walking 
into the exhibit, I was first introduced to various tall plaques that 
told the story of Van Gogh and his experiences as an artist and 
beyond. The works would then lead you around the room, allowing 
you to see a life-size version of some of his paintings, which 
helped the viewer better understand the work itself. Towards the 
end of the first second, I was able to sit down at one corner of the 
room where there was a giant vase, where a giant depiction of 
some of Van Gogh’s flower art was displayed. It allowed me to 
enjoy the colors and strokes that made the flowers. Once I finished 
the beginning of the experience, I was directed into a room where I 
could sit and see his works of art come to life in a way I had never 
seen before. They were able to project many of his works on the 
walls, floor, and ceiling, all with the help of a 360 projector. The 
cherry on top of the experience was that the pictures moved, and 
the music in the background helped me connect with the art itself. 
So much so that it brought tears to my eyes at how beautiful they 
were; it was an experience that I don’t imagine I'll forget down the 
road. 
Van Gogh: The Immersive Experience was open in Little 
Rock from August 1st to October 31st, 2024.  The Clifton L. Ganus, 
JR. Chair for History and Political Science funded a trip to the 
exhibition on October 18, 2024 and partnered with Tessa 
Davidson, Assistant Professor of Art at Harding.
