teaching Latin American history and

Luke Gibbs—Advertising Editor 
Luke Gibbs is a senior Social Science 
major and accelerated Master of Arts 
in History student from Searcy, 
Arkansas. Luke is a member of the 
Phi Alpha Theta history honors 
society and the American Studies 
Institute. He intends to pursue a 
career either in law or as a history

Dr. Julie E. Harris 
 
 
 
Julie Harris received her Ph.D. in British History from the 
University of Arkansas in 1999. Her passion for history and 
teaching began very early, leading to her continuing involvement 
with National History Day. She began teaching at Harding 
University in August 2000, and teaches Western Civilization, 
History of England, Renaissance, Western Philosophy, and Asia. 
She became the Eta Phi chapter advisor in 2003. Her research 
interests include monarchy as a political, cultural, and spiritual 
entity, and music as a point of cultural intersection. She lives in 
Searcy, Arkansas, with her husband, Damon, son, James, and 
daughter, Charlotte.

Tenor of Our Times is an annual journal publishing the work of current 
and past Harding University students on historical and social science 
topics. The title of the journal originates with the former chairman of the 
History and Social Science Department, Raymond Muncy, who often 
said, “Historians reflect the tenor of their times.” Tenor of Our Times is a 
student-managed publication, supported by a faculty editorial board, 
designed to encourage undergraduate scholarship in understanding the 
past and present. The journal will include quality student submissions as 
well as recognize the winners of the Raymond L. Muncy Scholarship
