    A study on user experience of smart glasses for higher education students

    This paper reports a study on the User experience (UX) of STEM (e.g., Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) students using smart glasses and an interactive Augmented Reality (AR) educational app. The results show that the AR app provides a good UX, despite the presence of some form factor issues. Students’ usability ratings for both the AR app and the smart glasses, are positively correlated with the students’ perceived learning. The results of this study can be used as a guideline to design and develop further immersive e-learning technologies

    Cost-Benefit Analysis of the Implementation of an Integrated Production Software in the Raw Materials Sector of A Pharmaceutical Industry

    The pharmaceutical industry currently has computer systems that seek to optimize processes and allow the maximum performance of its resources through the use of computer tools. The objective of the work was to determine the costs and benefits of two different software in management of raw materials for the pharmaceutical industry. Methods: observational, descriptive, cross-sectional, study that compared ONDANET and SAP software in positive and negative costs inferred in the implementation of the tools and the benefits in terms of the profitability of the management of raw materials for the elaboration of pharmaceutical products. Results: it has been observed by using direct costs and benefits that the benefit-cost ratio of the SAP software implementation yielded a result of 15.37, whereas the ONDANET software presented a cost-benefit ratio of 0.05, which could have been demonstrated Conclusion: A widely favorable cost-benefit ratio was found for SAP Software compared to the previously used ONDANET Software, indicating that the new software used is profitable. It is desirable to periodically carry out this type of analysis to guarantee not only that the Pharmaceutical Industry has a greater profitability, without also being able to provide its products with continuity and at affordable prices for the population

    La estación limnimétrica EM56 se ubica en la cuenca media del arroyo Tandileofú (37°10'37"S; 58°31'04"O) sobre el puente de la Ruta Provincial Nº 29 distante a 3,7 km en línea de la plaza céntrica de la ciudad de Ayacucho. Esta estación reemplaza a la estación limnigráfica HL1591 de la ADA (Autoridad del Agua de la provincia de Bs As) que se encontraba fuera de uso y con la cámara de aquietamiento inclinada por alguna crecida. La estación EM56 junto a la estación limnimétrica EM43 (RN226 y Aº Tandileofu) y EM46 (camino de acceso a Cangallo y Aº Tandileofu) medirán la altura del arroyo de forma automática y servirá de alerta para inundaciones en la ciudad de Ayacucho

    Adaptive gamification in collaborative location collecting systems: a case of traveling behavior detection

    Collaborative location collecting systems (CLCS) is a particular case of collaborative systems where a community of users collaboratively collects data associated with a geo-referenced location. Gamification is a strategy to convene participants to CLCS. However, it cannot be generalized because of the different users’ profiles, and so it must be tailored to the users and playing contexts. A strategy for adapting gamification in CLCS is to build game challenges tailored to the player’s spatio-temporal behavior. This type of adaptation requires having a user traveling behavior profile. Particularly, this work is focused on the first steps to detect users’ behavioral profiles related to spatialtemporal activities in the context of CLCS. Specifically, this article introduces: (1) a strategy to detect patterns of spatial-temporal activities, (2) a model to describe the spatial-temporal behavior of users based on (1), and a strategy to detect users’ behavioral patterns based on unsupervised clustering. The approach is evaluated over a Foursquare dataset. The results showed two types of behavioral atoms and two types of users’ behavioral patterns.Los sistemas colaborativos de recolección basados en la ubicación (CLCS, por sus siglas en inglés) son un caso particular de sistemas colaborativos donde una comunidad de usuarios recopila de forma colaborativa datos asociados con una ubicación georreferenciada. La ludificación es una estrategia para convocar participantes a CLCS. Sin embargo, no se puede generalizar debido a los diferentes perfiles de los usuarios, por lo que debe adaptarse a los usuarios y contextos de juego. Una estrategia para adaptar la gamificación en CLCS es crear desafíos de juego adaptados al comportamiento del jugador. Este tipo de adaptación requiere tener un perfil del comportamiento espacio-temporal del usuario y en particular, este trabajo se centra en los primeros pasos para detectar este tipo de perfiles en relación a las actividades espacio-temporales en el contexto de los CLCS. Específicamente, este artículo presenta: (1) una estrategia para detectar patrones de actividades espacio-temporales, (2) un modelo para describir el comportamiento espacio-temporal de los usuarios basado en (1), y una estrategia para detectar patrones de comportamiento de los usuarios, basada en en agrupamiento (clustering) no supervisado. El enfoque se evaluó sobre un conjunto de datos de la aplicación Foursquare. Los resultados mostraron dos tipos de átomos de comportamiento y dos tipos de patrones de comportamiento de los usuarios

    Experiencias en la migración de un repositorio institucional a DSpace 7

    En este trabajo se cuenta la experiencia obtenida a partir de la migración del repositorio institucional de la Comisión de Investigaciones Científicas (CIC), denominado CIC-DIGITAL, basado en el software de repositorios DSpace a su última versión (DSpace 7). Se realiza una análisis de este software mencionando las diferencias arquitecturales y funcionales con respecto a sus versiones anteriores. Luego se explica la estrategia seguida a lo largo del proceso de migración junto con los desafíos encontrados durante el mismo. Finalmente se reflexiona sobre las distintas estrategias de adopción de este software para los distintos escenarios en los que puede encontrarse un repositorio institucional que pretende encarar una migración de características similares

    Este trabajo está dedicado a relatar la experiencia de autoevaluación de un repositorio institucional realizada utilizando NDSA, se inicia a partir de la exposición del contexto de los repositorios institucionales y los estándares utilizados para auditar la confiabilidad de los mismos en cuanto al mantenimiento del acceso y comprensión de sus contenidos a largo plazo. La propuesta de niveles de NDSA abarca diversas áreas del repositorio, es muy comprensible y brinda un primer acercamiento al tema de preservación más sencillo que otros estándares como la ISO 16363. El trabajo construye la matriz de resultados del test del repositorio CIC Digital así como una propuesta de acciones para poder mejorar los aspectos no cumplidos o parcialmente cumplidos

    Influence of supporting electrolyte on electrochemical formation of copper nanoparticles and their electrocatalytic properties

    Comparative analysis of copper nanoparticles (CuNPs) obtained by electrodeposition on highly oriented pyrolytic graphite (HOPG) substrates from different supporting electrolytes containing sulphate anions, was performed. Voltammetric results indicated that Cu electrodeposition follows a diffusion-controlled nucleation and crystal growth model for three solutions studied (Na2SO4, H2SO4 and Na2SO4+H2SO4). Na2SO4 solution was most effective because the copper reduction occurs at the most positive potential value, reaching the highest current density. Analysis of potentiostatic current transients revealed that the process can be described predominantly by a model involving a 3D-progressive nucleation mechanism, which was corroborated by scanning electron microscopy (SEM) analysis. SEM images showed a high density of hemispherical shaped Cu particles of different sizes (mostly between 80-150 nm), randomly distributed on the HOPG surface for Na2SO4 electrolyte solution. In the presence of H2SO4, the size dispersion decreased, resulting in particles with greater diameters (up to 339 nm). The electrolyte solution with Na2SO4+H2SO4 revealed lower particle density with a considerable crystal size dispersion, where very small crystallites are prevailing. Cyclic voltammetry was used to evaluate qualitatively the catalytic activity of CuNPs deposited from three electrolyte solutions towards the nitrate reduction reaction. An enhanced catalytic effect was obtained when copper particles were prepared from either Na2SO4 or H2SO4 supporting electrolyte

    Crane: a local deployment tool for containerized applications

    Application deployment as one of the software development stages has become more complex in the presence of distributed architectures that in-volve a variety of tools, and, with them, configuration differences, versioning and communication protocols. Even when cloud services have contributed a so-lution in this sense, it is still difficult to deploy distributed applications in on-premise environments. The container concept as packages that include the application code, its de-pendencies, libraries and services required for its correct execution, turns out to be an alternative for streamlining application deployment and it allows taking the virtualization concept to the operative system. However, it adds a software layer that requires monitoring and management. There are robust solutions for administering and monitoring containers but they also require computing resources that sometimes exceed the capacity of the average computer used for development, and they make local deployment diffi-cult. In this work, Crane, a tool for local deployment of containerized applications is presented. This tool has the characteristic of being lightweight, of general purpose and with automatic scaling capacities, which differentiates it from the Minikube tool, which allows some local Kubernetes API testing and is used mainly for the development of new features for the latter

    Engineering Web Augmentation software: A development method for enabling end-user maintenance

    Nowadays, end-users are able to adapt Web applications when some of their requirements have not been taken into account by developers. One possible way to do adaptations is by using Web Augmentation techniques. Web Augmentation allows end-users to modify the Web sites’ user interfaces once these are loaded on the clientside, i.e., in the browser. They achieve these adaptations by developing and/or installing Web browser plugins (‘‘augmenters’’) that modify the user interface with new functionalities. This particular kind of software artifacts requires special attention regarding maintenance as–in most cases–they depend on third-party resources, such as HTML pages. When these resources are upgraded, unexpected results during the augmentation process may occur. Many communities have arisen around Web Augmentation, and today there are large repositories where developers share their augmenters; end-users may give feedback about existing augmentations and even ask for new ones. Maintenance is a key phase in the augmenters’ life-cycle, and currently, this task falls (as usual) on the developers. In this paper, we present a participatory approach for allowing end-users without programming skills to participate in the augmenters’ maintenance phase. In order to allow this, we also provide support for the development phase to bootstrap a first version of the augmenter and to reduce the load on developers in both phases, development and maintenance. We present an analysis of more than eight thousand augmenters, which helped us devise the approach. Finally, we present an experiment with 48 participants to validate our approach

    Evaluation of a Model-Driven Proposal to the Development of Groupware Systems

    Building groupware is a complex task. This chapter presents the use of the domain-specific language CSSL v2.0 collaborative software system language. CSSL provides simplicity, expressiveness, and precision to model the main concepts of collaborative systems, especially collaborative processes, protocols, and awareness. Models of collaborative systems are created via visual editors that support the concrete syntax of CSSL. According to the MDD methodology, models are independent of the implementation platform and are formally prepared to be transformed. In this implementation, the target of the transformation is a web application that provides a set of basic functions that developers can refine. Evaluation, validation, and verification of the language is performed, determining that the CSSL tools allow developers to solve central aspects of collaborative systems implementation in a simple and reasonable way. The evaluation determined that the CSSL metamodel has low complexity, with semantics strongly associated with UML and with good configuration possibilities
