No full textPentagonal barrel with signature of Lazzarino Cominazzo, the most famous Italian gunsmith of his day, on upper facet. Lock with so-called miquelet action (variant of snaphaunce lock-Translator), of unusual interest. All the parts are highly developed, and chased and perforated like steel lace-work. Trigger-guard to match. The plating at the small of the butt, likewise of steel, is chased with foliated and floral scrolls. The stock is decorated with chased steel motives and plated (screw plate) and has three barrel-rings chased with mascarons. That nearest the muzzle, the most conspicuous of all, has a recessed loop to take in a grotesque figure topping the ramrod. Very sumptuous piece, assuredly one of the finest from the hand of L. Cominazzo. From the Dupasquier Collection. The walnut butt and stock richly inlaid with bone and mother-of-pearl and silver wire, the wire formed into a scroll design, the bone and ivory and mother-of-pearl inlay representing grotesque animal figures and men. Signature H.N.M 1653 engraved on stock. The trigger guard is engraved with the figure of Fortuna, the lockplate richly engraved and initialed B.R. With spanner.
