Mild Traumatic Brain Injury: Signs, Symptoms, and Intervention

    No full text
Mild traumatic brain injury (mTBI) is a specific type of brain injury, often referred to as a concussion. Relying on existing research, this paper will collect the data that is available on concussions, numerous methods of treatment, and the complications of repeated injury. mTBI precipitates a host of cognitive, physical, and emotional symptoms, all of which can severely affect one’s daily life if left untreated. This paper will also address a range of possible treatment methods, including but not limited to acupuncture, cognitive behavioral therapy, and physical therapy. The efficacy of a multifaceted approach to treatment is emphasized, combining opinions from neurologists, physical therapists, behavioral therapists, and other professionals. Furthermore, the advantages of imaging in order to fully understand the intricacies involved in a brain injury such as a concussion will be discussed in detail. This paper also discusses the pathophysiology regarding concussions and the possible neurovascular conditions that can develop as a result of a concussion. Additionally, from a pharmacological perspective, there are certain medications available to help with managing the inflammation and pain that can occur as a result of a concussion. In conclusion, while mTBI can be a debilitating injury if left untreated, with an efficient multidirectional approach, it is possible to treat and manage the injury and possible symptoms
