    A High Resolution Photographic Guide for Identifying Fiddler Crabs from the Shores of the Atlantic Ocean

    This project created a comprehensive, high-resolution photographic guide for identifying the 23-known species of fiddler crabs inhabiting the coastal regions of Europe, East Africa, North America, the Gulf of Mexico, the Caribbean, and South America. The primary objective is to produce clear, detailed images that highlight key morphological features necessary for accurate species identification. These images will serve as an accessible reference for educators, students, and scientists involved in biodiversity studies, ecological monitoring, and conservation efforts. It will be available to the general public world-wide, at the ScholarWorks web page by the University of Northern Iowa’s Rod Library, https://scholarworks.uni.edu/fiddlercrabs/ By improving the ease and accuracy of field identification for these animals, this project contributes to the broader goals of species documentation and ecosystem research

    The Moderating Role of Aphantasia in the Link between Emotion Regulation and Relationship Satisfaction

    The goal of this study was to examine if poor visual imagery (i.e., aphantasia) moderated the link between emotional regulation and relationship satisfaction. We had 314 participants report on a survey about visual imagery, emotional regulation, and relationship satisfaction. Our original hypothesis was supported using the overall emotion regulation scale as well as five of the six different subscales of emotion regulation. However, further research is needed to better understand the rationale behind why aphantasia moderates this relationship

Carapace length 65% width; frontal region 38% carapace width. Eyestalks very short. Carapace smooth and swollen (Fig. 21 A). Antero-lateral margins curving inward, postero-lateral margin curving strongly toward center line. Dactyl and pollex blade-like and longer than manus (Fig. 21B,C). Distal dactyl overlapping pollex, a set of 3-4 large tubercles proximal near articulation (Fig. 21 C). Pollex almost straight with a central cluster of tubercles. Inner manus with strong oblique ridge converging at apex on carpal cavity (Fig. 21C). Carina of tubercles following cavity up to superior edge of cavity. Strong line of tubercles following gap to articulation. Merus of walking legs thin (Fig. 21 E); width 37% length with some pubescence and long setae.     Empowering Young Learners from Diverse Economic Backgrounds

    This paper explores the importance and benefits of empowering young learners from diverse economic backgrounds through goal setting, specifically focusing on students enrolled in an urban school serving a highly diverse population. Over time, students have changed neurologically and behaviorally—shaped in part by the influence of technology, which has affected how they process information and maintain attention. As a result, today’s students learn differently than in previous generations. Research shows that many young learners now enter school with only half the vocabulary of their middle-class peers (Wentzel, 2020), underscoring the urgent need for new instructional approaches that effectively engage and motivate students. Motivation has become a central factor in promoting academic success (Brudvig, Anderson, & Moore, 2022). Recognizing the positive impact of goal setting on motivation, this study examined how structured goal setting could help students meet expectations set by Iowa’s state-mandated FAST (Formative Assessment System for Teachers) assessment, a tool used to monitor reading progress and identify students in need of additional support. Findings from this study suggest that goal setting—especially when paired with written action steps and consistent feedback—can significantly enhance student motivation, confidence, and academic performance, regardless of socioeconomic background. Involving teachers, students, and peers in the process helps create a more supportive and engaging educational environment. Furthermore, individualized goal setting, as McTigue et al. (2009) note, directs a student’s effort toward meaningful tasks, promoting both motivation and learning. With clear goals in place, students are more likely to commit to the effort required to succeed
