PROBLEMS OF BALINESE LOAN WORDS IN TRANSLATION

    Get PDF
In translation the target language does not always have direct equivalent for a word which occurs in the source text. This problem of non-equivalence is induced by some reasons that there are several types of non-equivalence in translation (Baker,1992). One of the types is non-equivalence induced by the use of loan words in the source text. This study concerns non-equivalence at word level and focuses on the strategies used to translate Balinese loan words in the text of Indonesian into English. The data are taken from a bilingual book of Indonesian and English. The Indonesian text is entitled Janda-Janda Korban Terorisme di Bali (Sebuah buku kisah nyata dari kejadian Bom Bali) and the English one is entitled Widows of Terrorism Victims in Bali (A book of true stories of the Bali bombings). The existence of Balinese loan words in Indonesian text shows that the source text comes with two contexts of culture. They are Balinese and Indonesian culture. The result shows that to overcome the problems of loan words, the translator applies strategies which include translation by more general word, by loan word, by loan word plus explanation, by a more neutral expressive word, and by omission. The strategies applied by the translator make the readers of English text have no understanding about the cultural meaning of the loan words used. Among the strategies applied, translation by using loan word is the most appropriate

This research is entitled “Behaviour and Participation of Local Community Organizations as Local Actors in Policy Implementation in Denpasar” Denpasar city as one of a Metropolis City is a dense city with a high heterogeneity with all of its development policy problems. A development that can fulfill the citizen needs is a demand that can not be postponed again in this area of regional autonomy. However, in practice, this often encountered many obstacles and problems. Ideally, regional development should involve community participation and based on the neds of citizen itself. Observation methods used by the autor is qualitative descriptive method. The data source obtained from aspect of place, person, and paper. Data collection techniques include observation, interviews, and documentation. The role and participation of community organizations in the city of Denpasar in policy implementation in the city of Denpasar is required by the government to create a synergy of development in the city of Denpasar. Each actor reveals that there is still a lot of the problems that exist in the city of Denpasar, its because Denpasar itself which is now evolving into a dense city with large numbers of immigrants, with all of that problems it really needs synergy between the parties in order to solve it. Based on this observation, as a form of the problematic solution that there are methods of public organizations participation is one that is expected to be implemented. The most expected to be implemented. The most expected participation of actors involved in a variety of policy implementation in the city of Denpasar is the public organization

Biochar is a carbon-rich material that comes from incomplete combustion of agricultural biomass in a container with little or no air. Biochar has the potential to increase the carbon content of the soil, improve soil fertility and restore soil quality has been degraded. This research was conducted in three phases, from June 2015 until May 2016. The first phase of the research is the field observation, performed to evaluate the potential of bamboo biochar and compost on the dry land. Field observation and collection of samples of soil, compost and biochar conducted in Sulahan village, Bangli. The results of this study indicate that biochar and compost has the potential to improve the properties of the soil in the drylands. The second phase of a pot experiment in a greenhouse, using a randomized block design (RBD) with three replications nested test patterns. Factors treatment consists of three fertilizer types namely biochar, compost, and phonska with 3 levels dose and a control for comparison. The composition of the treatment are: (1) control (D0), (2) biochar 5 t ha-1 (BD1), (3) biochar 10 t ha-1 (BD2), (4) biochar 15 t ha-1 (BD3), (5) compost 10 t ha-1 (KD1), (6) compost 20 t ha-1 (KD2), (7) compost 30 t ha-1 (KD3), (8) phonska 150 kg ha-1 ( PD1), (9) phonska 300 kg ha-1 (PD2), and (10) phonska 450 kg ha-1 (PD3). The results of phase II studies showed that biochar, compost and phonska very significant effect on total oven dry weight of the plant, as well as the optimum dose obtained biochar 10.52 t ha-1, optimum dose of compost 20.22 t ha-1, and the optimum dose of phonska 313.37 kg ha-1. The third phase of the research is field scale experiment, which was designed by RBD three replications with factorial 2 factors. The first factor is the dose of fertilizer with biochar dose level 4 (D), namely: D0 = without biochar, D1 = 0.5 x the optimum dose biochar (5.26 t ha-1), D2 = biochar dose optimum (10.52 t ha-1), D3 = 1.5 x the optimum dose biochar 15.78 t ha-1). The second factor is the type of fertilizer (P) with four types, namely: P0 = without fertilizer, P1 = compost, P2 = phonska, and P3 = compost + phonska. The results of the phase III study showed that biochar dosage formulations 10.52 t ha-1 with compost and phonska can increase P-available, K-available, and total soil microbes, improving the distribution of micropores and improving soil quality to be very good with Soil Quality Rating (SQR) value of 18. The formulation of biochar 10.52 t ha-1 with compost and phonska the highest yield seed weight of dry seed moisture content of 14% was 12.84 tons per hectare increased by 38.61% when compared to the interaction without biohar with compost and phonska. The highest yield of 12.84 tonnes of seed weight per ha dry seed provides the highest agronomic value of 119.69% effectiveness and feasibility value of corn crop farming in drylands 1.27. Based on these results it can be concluded that the formulation of biochar bamboo 10.52 t ha-1 with the type of compost and phonska can be used to improve soil quality and yield of maize in dryland. Keywords: Biochar of bamboo, soil quality, dryland, yield of cor

    Get PDF
The title of this paper is The Use of “Do” Found in Some Novels. This paper tries to analyze and discuss the form of do and the function of do. In doing this research I applied theory of Quirk (1972) in his book entitled A Grammar of Contemporary English (1972) as my theoretical basis. I also use some other theories taken from books which are considered relevanth to the topic of discussion. The data of this paper were taken from three novels entitled “Edensor” written by Andrea Hirata, “The Last Olympian” written by Rick Riordan and “Underground” written by Natassa. All data were collected through library research by quoting the sentence related to the topic discussed. Based on the result of research and analysis, it is found the form of do can be (1) main verb do, (2) main verb does, (3) main verb did, (4) main verb doing, and (5) main verb done. The use of those forms of do is based on the tense used. Main verbs do and does are used in simple present tense, did is used in past tense, dong is used present continuous tense, and done is used in perfect tense. Here, done is not found in the form of passive construction. There are three function of do found, namely : do as verbal substitution, do as auxiliary, and do as emphatic marker. As a verbal subsitution, it is found do used simple present tense and simple past tense. As auxiliary, it is found four forms of auxiliary do, namely: do as operator in question, negative, imperative and tag question. Lastly, it is found do as emphatic marker. It is used to put emphasis on the action done by the character in the story

Death Penalty in Constitutional Dimensions and Human Rights in Indonesia

    Get PDF
The implementation of death penalty in Indonesia is still a topic of debate among legal thinkers. For those who contend with death penalty, it is contrary to the constitution and human rights. As for the death penalty, it is argued that it is a proper form of punishment for the perpetrators of serious crimes such as drug trafficking, premeditated murder, gross violations of human rights, and various crimes that have a wide negative impact on society. The existence of death penalty has also received legal recognition through the decision of the Constitutional Court which considers that death penalty is not contradictory to the constitution and human rights values

Biochar is an organic material which is difficultly weathered (recalcitrant), as an alternative to accelerate the improvement of soil quality in the drylands, especially physical soil properties, which affect the increase of living microorganisms in the soil and chemical property changes in the supply of nutrients that plants need. This study aimed to get formulations biochar with compost and Phonska which gives the highest yield of corn. This study used a randomized complete block design (RCBD) with a factorial pattern. The treatments tested were doses of biochar (D) and fertilizers (P). The first factor is the dose of fertilizer with biochar dose level 4 (D), namely: D0 = 0 t ha-1 (without biochar), D1 = 5 t ha-1, D2 = 10 t ha-1, D3 = 15 t ha-1. The second factor is the type of fertilizer (P) with four types, namely: P0 = without fertilizer, P1 = compost (20 t ha-1), P2 = Phonska (300 kg ha-1), and P3 = compost (20 t ha-1) + Phonska (300 kg ha-1). Dose formulations biochar 10 t ha-1 with compost 20 t ha-1 and Phonska 300 kg ha-1 provides the highest yield of 12.99 t ha-1 seed dry seed moisture content of 15%, which increased by 124 % when compared the lowest yield on treatment without biochar and fertilizer (D0P0) was only 5.80 t ha-1. Formulation biochar 10 t ha-1 with compost and Phonska (D2P3) gives a value IBCR (Incremental Benefit Cost Ratio) of 1.28 is classified as a viable to cultivated
