[Peer Review] Water Distribution System of Petanu River Estuary for Coastal Area in Bali-Indonesia
Towards a cysticercosis-free tropical resort island: A historical overview of taeniasis/cysticercosis in Bali
Taeniasis and cysticercosis are known to be endemic in several Indonesian islands, although relatively little recent epidemiological data are available. As most Indonesian people are Muslims, taeniasis/cysticercosis caused by the pork tapeworm, TAENIA solium, has a restricted presence in non-Muslim societies and is endemic only among some Hindu communities on the island of Bali. Bali has long been known to be endemic for taeniasis/ cysticercosis; almost a century ago levels of cysticercosis of 20–30% were described in cattle and 2–3% in pigs. Few studies of taeniasis/cysticercosis were undertaken in Bali prior to a series of research programs commenced since the 1990s. Both TAENIA SAGINATA and T. solium continue to be endemic in Bali. Molecular studies have revealed that all T. SAGINATA-like tapeworms detected in Bali are T. SAGINATA. No evidence has been found for the presence of TAENIA ASIATICA in Bali. Economic, sanitary and education improvements across much of the island over the past decades have been associated with a decline in the amount of transmission of T. solium such that the parasite now seems to be restricted to the eastern part of the island, a small area on the northeastern slope of Mt. Agung, the highest mountain in Bali. The living environment including sanitation and hygiene condition in this endemic area remains relatively poor especially during the half-year dry season, and pigs continue to roam freely. In this review, historical records and ongoing projects towards elimination of taeniasis/cysticercosis in Bali are reviewed to provide a better understanding of the present situation of taeniasis/cysticercosis in Bali towards a future, cysticercosis-free tropical resort island

Improving Hygiene and Sanitation Behavior among Pemindang Workers in Kusamba Village Through Direct Training and Demonstration Plot
Kusamba Village is one of the largest pemindangan centers on the island of Bali where located in Dawan District, Klungkung Regency. They carry out a very traditional scanning process with very simple facilities and infrastructure, such as storing fresh fishes left on the dirty floor, equipment for boiling from used drums. In the salting process, they use brown and dirty salt, and use water from well water that close to the sewer. The boiling process is carried out repeatedly for several times, until the fish as raw material runs out. Waste drainage is filled with garbage and smell bad. We carried out community service activities with the priority of improving hygiene and sanitation to improve the quality of pindang. We gave direct training and demonstration plot of pindang processing followed by an evaluation one month later. We expected that this community service will be implemented sustainably in Kusamba

LANDSLIDE HAZARDS DUE TO RAINFALL INTENSITY IN THE CALDERA OF MOUNT BATUR BALI
In order to ensure the safety of the visitors, the development planning of tourism areas requires a comprehensive study on the physical condition and disaster risk management, so that it can be applied effectively, efficiently, and in line with the sustainability requirements. In this case, the study on the physical condition focuses on the potential of natural disasters, especially landslide. This research was conducted in Terunyan Village, Kintamani Distric, Bangli Regency, Bali. Landslide often occurs in this village, especially during the rainy season, as it is surrounded by hills with low vegetation and bordered by a lake. Samples were collected from two hand bore points at slopes which have the highest risk to the public facilities and residences. GeoStudio 2012 program was used to analyze the rainfall infiltration, then it was linked to Slope/W to obtain the safety factor. The average rainfall intensity applied in this study was 125 mm/day, and the optimal duration of rain was 5 hours (based on the data provided by BMKG on 9 February, 2017). The results show that the impact of rainfall to the infiltration with the safety factor lower than 1.0 happened in the 2nd hours. The critical safety factor decreased from 0.963 to 0.623. The safety factor decreased drastically in the 4th to 5th hours of rain due to the drastic drop of the resisting force from 167 kPa to 124 kPa and the increase of driving force from 152 kPa to 200 kPa. The high and constant rain volume caused high seepage to the ground. Rain water filled the soil void and increased the pore pressure, then the soil became saturated and the internal friction angle decreased. This problem can be solved by controlling the seepage into the ground, which can be done by closing the open cracks and designing the upperground and underground drainage system
