    Get PDF
Dinggeschichten sind zyklographische Erzählungen des 18. und 19. Jahrhunderts. Chinese Infrastructure Investment’s Impact on European Trade and Regional Development: An Analysis in Four Essays

    Get PDF
This cumulative dissertation examines the impact of Chinese transport infrastructure investment on multiple outcome dimensions within Europe, namely local development, the environment and inter-regional trade. A key project studied is the China-Europe Railway Express, an effort to establish a land and rail based trade link between the two regions, but also Chinese presence in European port infrastructure is considered. Different quantitative-empirical approaches, including causal inference tools, spatial econometrics and the gravity model of trade, are employed to study the effects of those investments at a regional level. Throughout the dissertation, considerable evidence for a significant impact can be established. The dissertation contains a total of four empirical studies, three of which were written jointly with co-authors. One study was single-authored. Three of the studies were published in peer-reviewed journals, while the fourth study was published as a working paper

Die Bedeutung von Erwartungen und medienbasiertem Sentiment für das individuelle Verhalten, Energiepreise und Renditen grüner Anlagen

This cumulative dissertation examines the extent to which media-based sentiment and information influence individual expectations and behavior as well as economic developments and market prices. Of particular interest is the question whether sentiment can be regarded as relevant information that leads to behavioral changes and market adjustments, or whether it can be regarded as noise that leads to little or no behavioral and market changes. The role of sentiment and information in the economy is considered in particular in the context of sustainable investments, green asset returns, energy markets, and environmental, social and governance (ESG) indices. The work comprises a total of five empirical studies. Four of the studies were written jointly with co-authors, while one study was authored solely. Three of the studies were published in peer-reviewed journals, while the other two studies were published as working papers and are currently in the review process for peer-reviewed journals
