    Cabaret is a musical with music by John Kander, lyrics by Fred Ebb, and a book by Joe Masteroff. It is based on the 1951 play I Am a Camera by John Van Druten, which in turn was based on the 1939 novel Goodbye to Berlin by Christopher Isherwood. Set in 1929–1930 Berlin during the twilight of the Jazz Age as the Nazis rise to power, the musical focuses on the hedonistic nightlife at the seedy Kit Kat Klub and revolves around American writer Clifford Bradshaw\u27s relations with English cabaret performer Sally Bowles. A subplot involves the doomed romance between German boarding house owner Fräulein Schneider and her elderly suitor Herr Schultz, a Jewish fruit vendor.     Guidelines for Performing Caudal Blocks in Pediatric Sub-Umbilical Surgeries

    Adequate pain control in pediatric patients undergoing sub-umbilical surgeries is critical because of the increased need for opioids and heart rate (HR) fluctuations that occur in the postoperative period. The traditional approach of providing anesthesia in sub-umbilical surgeries is general anesthesia(GA); however, this approach does provide prolonged pain relief. This project aims to establish evidence-based guidelines for implementing caudal blocks (CA) with GA in pediatric sub-umbilical surgeries. By implementing CA with GA, patients experience less pain, leading to a reduction of opioids and HR fluctuations in the postoperative period. The project follows the John Hopkins Evidence-Based Practice (JHEBP) model, a systemic approach for incorporating research findings into patient care. Data collection will involve retrospective chart analysis to assess patient information related to CA and postoperative pain. The project will monitor postoperative pain by assessing the Face, Legs, Activity, Cry, and Consolability (FLACC) score and the hemodynamics, specifically HR. The project seeks to enhance pain relief in pediatric patients undergoing sub-umbilical surgeries, improving pain scores, and reducing the need for postoperative opioids and HR fluctuations

    Unlocking the Doors to Engagement and Accessibility: A Curriculum Development for Second Grade Learners in Social Studies

    The goal of this project is to create a second-grade Social Studies curriculum that increases engagement and provides accessibility to all students. The intent is to pull from the instructional frameworks of Universal Design for Learning developed by CAST, Project-Based Learning by The Buck Institute and differentiation by Carol Ann Tomlinson. The following research question was used to propel forward the goal of this project: How can a second grade Social Studies unit unlock student engagement and universal accessibility by applying three educational frameworks? This question was answered by literature research on the topics of engagement and accessibility followed by the three frameworks mentioned above on UDL, PBL and differentiation. This research was then analyzed for overlapping characteristics that would lead to a curriculum development that was highly engaging and universally accessible for second grade students.     Intracellular Transportation of Perilipin 5

    Lipid metabolism is the basis of many metabolic diseases that are effecting the US. A rise in the body’s free fatty acids can occur in diseases like diabetes mellitus and metabolic syndrome, which results in oxidative stress in the mitochondria. In the cell, there are lipid storage droplets that store triacylglycerol and cholesterol esters. On the surface of these droplets the PAT family of proteins can be found, which are involved in the regulation of lipolysis in multiple different ways. Perilipin 5 is a part of this family and is expressed in tissues that have a higher capacity for fatty acid oxidation. While on the lipid droplet, perilipin 5 interacts with ATGL or HSL to regulate lipolysis. Perilipin 5 is phosphorylated by PKA and is found to form a transcriptional complex in the nucleus with PGC-1α and SIRT1 to mediate mitochondrial biogenesis and oxidative function. When in a fasting state, this complex changes the oxidative capacity of the mitochondria so that the increased flux of fatty acids does not damage the cell. This important protective pathway helps protect the cell from damage, yet how this protein initially gets to the nucleus is unknown. There are two common routes for intracellular trafficking, either through actin filaments or microtubules. Cytochalasin B and colchicine were the drugs used to inhibit the dynamics of actin filaments and microtubules, respectively. After one of the cytoskeletal elements was inhibited, the cells were stimulated and the effects of the inhibition on perilipin 5’s movement was examined through immunofluorescent immunochemistry, cell fractioning studies, and immunoprecipitations. The data from the immunofluorescence pointed to a negative result for the use of actin in the translocation to the nucleus and was inconclusive for the use of microtubules. The cell fractioning study and the immunoprecipitation indicated inconclusive results and need further optimization. This study is able to provide information to further the study of intracellular trafficking of perilipin
