A Continuation of the Differentiation of Transit Agencies and Their Funding in the United States
This paper explores the role of efficiency, and effectiveness, measured in relation to the differentiation of public transportation agencies operating in the United States with a bus mode. Data is gathered from the National Transit Database (NTD) from 2015-2019, at the agency level. A k-means clustering approach is used to determine how these ratios segment agencies in the market. After agencies are classified into three groups, a discriminant analysis is done to affirm the distinctiveness of the solution. Next, an Ordinary Least Squares (OLS) regression model is run each year to investigate whether or not the ratios used to form a cluster solution predict federal funding amounts received by each agency. I then present the results of my analysis before concluding with suggestions for public policy makers and provide directions for future research. Hence, the overarching purpose of this research project is to develop a cluster solution that reflects a firm’s efficiency and effectiveness and then modeling its positional advantage to determine if the firm is achieving superior financial performance as measured by federal funds
Characterization of Streptomyces coelicolor Transposon Mutants and Deletion of Possible Chromosome Segregation Gene
Streptomyces coelicolor is a gram-positive bacterium found in soil. The bacterium can be used for the creation of antibiotics and as a model system for prokaryotic development. Unlike some bacteria, S. coelicolor has linear chromosomes with a multicellular life cycle, consisting of filaments with multi-genomic compartments and later single genomes within spore compartments. During sporulation, chromosome segregation is most noticeable in S. coelicolor along with cellular division to form evenly spaced septa. For chromosomal segregation to take place, the ParABS system is used. ParA and ParB proteins allow for the positioning of the oriC locus during chromosomal segregation. While these proteins control the subcellular localization of oriC, ParA and ParB also organize in the subcellular space to create segregation. While ParAB may play a major role in chromosomal segregation, mutations of each gene only display small phenotypic effects on growth. In addition, chromosomal segregation is strongly correlated with cell division during sporulation, meaning that there is a controlled mechanism for segregation although the exact mechanism remains unknown. The purpose of this study was to characterize a novel gene which may be a contributor to chromosomal segregation in S. coelicolor. This will be done by constructing a deletion mutant of the gene in S. coelicolor and then compared to similar mutants in S. venezuelae
Nutrient Plasticity in the Feeder Insect Blaptica dubia Fed Different Diets During Growth
For animals under human care, their welfare is extremely important and often challenging to maintain. Nutrition plays a critical role in overall animal welfare, and without proper nutrition, nutritional diseases may arise, particularly in insectivores. Many studies have investigated the nutritional content and nutrient plasticity of common feeder insects like crickets (Acheta domesticus) and mealworms (Tenebrio molitor). However, research has yet to investigate in detail a less popular, and anecdotally more nutritious dubia cockroach (Blaptica dubia). I reared B. dubia on five different diets until their 7th instar, and then collected them for nutrient analysis. B. dubia reared on a diet which consisted of 45 % chicken feed, 25 % fish food, 25 % turtle pellets, and 5 % calcium supplement, had the best nutritional content overall among all diets observed in this study. The B. dubia fed that diet were highest in protein, calcium, and ash, lowest in chitin, and had a moderate amount of fat. The diet did not have an impact on how fast B. dubia grew and developed, but it did decrease gestation time. This successful nutrient manipulation of B. dubia opens the doors for future research on more dietary manipulation for the insect, as well as creating a nutrient dense feeder insect that is better than many studies done on both crickets and mealworms

Just Choices? Judicial Selection, Ideology, and Partisanship in the Ohio Supreme Court
This thesis joins the conversation on judicial selection and impacts on judicial ideology. This is a multifaceted question that engages with the history of judicial selection, differences between states, growing polarization and partisanship, and an influx in campaign spending that can all influence Justices’ behavior while on the bench. While other theorists have used more quantitative or statistical analytics, more research is still needed on the nuanced and qualitative questions surrounding the judiciary in the United States, especially on the state level. I look at three Ohio Supreme Court Justices—Maureen O’Connor, Jennifer Brunner, and Sharon Kennedy—and decisions they have penned in three categories of case—criminal justice, low salience, and redistricting—to understand what factors influence judicial behavior. This process-tracing method showed that political affiliation and, to a lesser extent,positive public sentiment, influence judicial behavior, while amicus briefs and financial contributions were not directly impactful but are still relevant to the questions emerging in this area of legal scholarship. These findings are significant as they come at a point of major change in Ohio’s judicial selection: a move from the semi-partisan Michigan-Ohio method elections to the fully partisan elections introduced in 2022 by Senate Bill 80 (SB80). This research also emphasizes the importance of State Supreme Courts, an area under-researched in the field and lacking public engagement. By exploring these questions, this thesis is relevant not only to Ohio’s modern bench but also encourages research on federal courts and other state benches as well

Use and Evaluation of a New Nurse Practitioner Fellowship Program
The project addresses fellowship programs for new graduate nurse practitioners. The goal is to determine if a nurse residency or fellowship program is beneficial in role transition as a new graduate nurse practitioner. Nurse practitioner residency or fellowship programs are typically 12 months in duration, have small cohort sizes of two to four trainees, and are composed of a combination of didactic educational content, clinical supervision, peer support and debriefing, and self-reflection The study utilizes a survey design to measure the impact of a nurse practitioner fellowship program versus a standard orientation period. The article concludes with barriers and recommendations to complete for future projects
