    No full text
Digital transformation during the pandemic COVID-19 has been impressive. Some organizations have accelerated the adoption of new technology and digitalization as their response to the pandemic COVID-19. The healthcare and medical education systems are also not left behind in adapting to new digital solutions. Examples include e-health and virtual consultations, management of big data and application of artificial intelligence, and the Internet of Things. The response in education includes remote learning and using educational technologies to empower medical graduate teaching. New ways of work using technologies and digital solutions not only beneficial within the unprecedented crisis but shine a light towards greater digital adoption beyond the pandemic COVID-19

In the recent research, the optimisation of culture condition for phytase production rarely done for Acetinobacter baumanii. The optimisation of the phytase production from the bacterial strains largely contributed by Bacillus sp. The study on the phytase originated from hot spring are limited and the species that identified from the hot spring samples are not in the same species from the previous study and mainly the species isolated from Bacillus sp. In this study, four potential strains of bacteria producing phytase isolated from hot spring in several regions in Malaysia. For enrichment of the bacterial, Nutrient Agar was used, meanwhile for batch culture optimisation, the bacteria producing phytase grown in modified liquid Phytase Screening Media with soy extract as agro residual substrate as a replacement for sodium phytate, the chemical substrate. The bacteria were screened for their ability to produce clear zone in solid PSM with sodium phytate as substrate. Optimisation of media through its physical factor that is pH of the media carried out using shake flask scale in laboratory. The growth of the bacterial strains and phytase activity measured quantitatively through the two different pH of media at pH 5.5 and pH 7. The analysis of colony-forming unit and pH determination after fermentation was carried out in this study. From the study, bacterial strain L3 from Labis, Johor has the highest phytase activity in the two parameters studied where the inorganic phosphate released at pH 5.5 (0.21953 U/mL) and pH 7 (0.2047 U/mL). Optimisation carried out through manipulating the culture condition that is pH of the media to determine at which condition has the highest phytase production. Several effects on enzyme activity caused by culture conditions identified. The optimisation of the fermentation medium able to contribute to the less cost production of the industrial enzyme as phytase has potential production for feed additives for poultry feeding. In the future research, molecular identification of the bacterial strains from the better-quality bacteria producing phytase grown in optimised culture media to investigate the molecular identity of the bacterial

Retro-aortic left renal vein as an uncommon cause of left sided varicocele and haematuria

    No full text
Retro-aortic left renal vein [RLRV] is a congenital anomaly characterised by a left renal vein passing posterior to abdominal aorta. It has been suggested that RLRV may cause varicocele and haematuria. The urological symptoms are probably due to the increased pressure in the left renal vein secondary to posterior nutcracker phenomenon. The diagnosis of RLRV is usually radiological. We report a case of a 53-year old man who presented with left scrotal swelling which was then confirmed to be varicocele by Doppler ultrasound. Two months later, the patient had microscopic haematuria and computed tomography [CT] abdomen and pelvis scan was done. CT showed presence of RLRV

    No full text
Aquilaria malaccensis Lam. (family Thymelaeaceae) commonly known as agarwood or gaharu producing tree in Malaysia. The tree is being heavily exploited due to its highly valuable agar oil used in the production of high grade perfumes and traditional medicines. Consequently, their population in nature is threatened greatly. Conservation of this tree species is of the main concern, however, identification of A. malaccensis from other Aquilaria sp. based on morphology is very difficult and time consuming. This study aimed to determine the genetic diversity among three selected Aquilaria sp. namely A. malaccensis, A. sinensis (Lour.) Spreng. And A. subintegra Ding Hou using random amplified polymorphic DNA (RAPD) markers and to differentiate A. malaccensis from A. sinensis and A. subintegra. Out of ten RAPD primers, four primers (G12, R15, U13 and OPA 05) produced the most clear and reproducible bands. A total of 24 bands were scored from the four primers. Construction of dendrogram resulted in two major clusters; cluster I consisted of only A. malaccensis accessions, and cluster II consisted of A. subintegra and A. sinensis accessions. This indicates that A. subintegra is more closely related to A. sinensis while A. malaccensis is genetically distant from both. Species-specific bands for A. malaccensis were produced at 875, 1000 and 2500 bp by G12 primer, and at 2500 bp by OPA 05 primer. This study laid the foundation for a creation of rapid and cost effective molecular identification of A. malaccensis

    No full text
As one of the major contributors to the Malaysian tourism industry, Umrah package travel has been recognised. For their particular intent, Muslims in Malaysia travel by package to Mecca and Medina for their specific purpose: to perform religious duty (Umrah) to fulfill the unity of spirit, heart and soul. Recently, due to many issues including non-performance contract, poor service, cancelled trip as well as fraudulent cases, the number of complaints submitted by the Umrah package travelers increased tremendously. Due to that problem, Umrah package travelers may suffer financial, emotional and spiritual loss. In order to protect the interests of Umrah package travelers in Malaysia, it is therefore necessary to have a robust legal framework. This study is therefore intended to investigate how the Malaysian legal system safeguards the rights and interests of Umrah package travelers in Malaysia, in particular through laws and regulations. The results of the above analysis will define the adequacy of the existing legal framework and the mechanism that we still in need of protecting the welfare of Umrah package travellers

This study aimed to build a conceptual framework by investigating the critical factors that impede the application of e-learning in secondary schools in Nalut, Libya. The conceptual framework for this study was suggested by investigating the obstacles and difficulties that hinder the use of e-learning in general and based on previous studies to build the questionnaire for this study, this study was limited to the scientific section of government secondary schools in Nalut. The field study was conducted during the first semester of the academic year 2018-2019. Barriers that may constitute difficulties in employing e-learning using a quantitative approach have been studied using a questionnaire consisting of four areas (individual difficulties, context difficulties, technology difficulties, difficulties with the chemistry approach), and based on the results of the correlative and influential study of the questionnaire for the random sample that reached (724) among which are teachers, supervisors and students from the Libyan high schools Nalut Libyan, the conceptual framework for the study community was built, through descriptive analysis using statistical analysis spss version (21.0) to identify the degree of difficulties of e-learning in teaching chemistry, and on laboratories To link Pearson Pearson Test to identify the degree of correlation between all the difficulties as well as the study used regression analysis Multiple Multiple Regression Analysis to identify the impact strength of difficulties. The study, which was derived from the analysis of the survey data, found a correlation between the difficulties of (contexts, technology and curriculum) and individual difficulties, and the presence of an influence correlation between the difficulties of each (contexts, technology and curriculum) and individual difficulties. The proposed conceptual framework for this study contributes to knowing the obstacles of e-learning by creating a guide for educational institutions and governments in order to develop and implement better, and it works as a tool to avoid the failure of implementing new e-learning projects through planning that meets the attitudes and tendencies of individuals towards the effective use of e-learning and as a method of evaluating the effectiveness of projects Current e-learning

Reading plays a significant role in our daily lives. Literary readers build their worlds and expand their imagination with deviating from the literal words to create images that make sense to them in the unfamiliar places the texts describe. This study examined the most useable strategies among English language and literature students at the University of Jordan as well as whether there are significant differences between males and females in this regard. Methodology: This study employed both descriptive and quantitative approaches to collect data. The sample was selected using simple random sampling. The sample of the study was 120 EFL bachelor students divided into 60 males and 60 females from UJ. SPSS program was used in the data analysis. The research instrument was a questionnaire designed by the researcher in accordance with the study questions. SPSS social package was used to treat the collected data through multiple regression, T-test, and descriptive analyses. Result: The data analysis showed that the most usable strategies were personal growth model, cooperative learning, intensive reading, illustration, cultural model, but that doesn’t mean those are the most effective on the reading ability of literary texts. It also indicated that there are only significant differences in the use of the cultural model and the personal growth model but there aren't any significant differences in the usage of the other mentioned strategies. Conclusion: It is recommended that the decision-makers should pay more attention to the literary texts that are provided to the university students while deciding the bachelor's syllabus. So that they should organize literary texts in combination with the most effective reading strategies. To help them to get rid of the expected difficulties of comprehending such texts. This study contributes to supply the future bachelor syllabuses planning of English language and literature department at the University of Jordan and other universities around
