Identifying talent in sepak takraw via anthropometry indexes

    No full text
This chapter evaluates the importance of different anthropometric indexes towards the categorisation of the ability of sepak takraw players. To discriminate between high-performance players (HPP), medium performance players (MPP) and low performance players (LPP), the Louvain clustering algorithm was employed. Different SVM models were also developed by varying the hyperparameters of the models. It is evident from the present investigation that anthropometric indexes, particularly standing height, sitting height, leg length, waist circumference, thigh circumference, calf circumference and four-site skinfold measurements evaluated do affect performance in sepak takraw players. It was also demonstrated that the best polynomial-based SVM architecture is capable of discriminating the players with an average classification accuracy of 96% on the validation and test dataset. © The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Singapore Pte Ltd. 2020

    No full text
Background The best books for medical students are their patients in the bedside. However COVID-19 pandemic already changed the educational landscape from traditional methods to the virtual classroom. Movement control order (MCO) have made teaching and learning in the hospital, clinical skills laboratory and tutorial suspended. So at Faculty of Medicine, Universiti Sultan Zainal Abidin, novel virtual teaching using synchronous and asynchronous methods such as webinars and Moodle learning management system (LMS) were used to replace traditional medical teaching during the COVID-19 pandemic. Methods We organized webinars on relevant topics. These were viewed via Webex and included medical topics and clinical scenario discussions. Medical webinars were recorded and uploaded to Telegram group. To promote student engagement, notes, short videos on clinical procedures and clinical scenario discussions were uploaded in Moodle LMS, Knowledge and E-learning Integrated Platform (KeLIP) UniSZA. Results 32 webinars were organized by Anaesthesiology Department with 448 attendees total. 12 webinars were uploaded to Telegram group, 12 lecture notes and 28 clinical scenario discussions were uploaded to KeLIP, a Moodle LMS. The students, based on quantitative and qualitative feedback, appreciated the online platform. Majority of the students stated that they were given the opportunity to ask question and able to interact with the lecturer. The advantages; attendees can watch anywhere, easily recorded for later viewing, no room bookings and no need for social distancing. While appreciate the platform, nearly 50% of the students still believed that physical classroom was better than virtual classroom. Among disadvantages; difficult to teach practical skills, confidentiality concerns with recognizable case details for clinical base discussions, security concerns with hijacking and attendance verification difficult if attendee webcams. Conclusions We received great feedback for all webinars and Moodle learning management system. Virtual teaching is useful for teaching theory. However the main disadvantage of note for airway and anaesthetics skill is inability to obtain hands-on practice. We feel virtual teaching provides flexibility, continuing teaching and learning during pandemic crisis

Genicular nerve radiofrequency ablation (GNRFA) has been increasingly used in elderly patients with chronic knee pain who failed other medical or surgical intervention. Here we reported a case of elderly patient who received a GNRFA with excellent pain relief and functional outcome of quality of life. A 72-year-old male diagnosed with bilateral knee osteoarthritis since 10 years ago presented with recurrent bilateral knee pain. Orthopaedic recommended pain management and activity modification and was selected as a candidate for total knee replacement. However patient not keen for surgery. The first GNRFA was performed on March 2019 which provided 10 months of complete pain relief. Second GNRFA was performed on January 2020 which provided immediate 80% pain relief. Patient stopped taking NSAIDS since the first ablation and did not have any sensory or motor deficit related to the radiofrequency ablation. He also satisfied with the quality of life and returned to normal routine activities. This case illustrated that genicular nerve radiofrequency ablation offer a valuable treatment option for population who not keen for surgery or candidate with high cardiac risk who not suitable for surgery. Genicular nerve radiofrequency ablation provide effective analgesia and free oral medication and this is one modality to achieve for opioid free
