Understanding and Assessing the Motivation Factors of University Students’ Involvement in Volunteerism.
Volunteerism is one of the areas that is increasingly
gaining attention in improving capabilities among students in
Malaysia. Volunteering activity is such a noble work that able to
give value to human development and improving social skills.
Hence, it is crucial to this research to identify the factors of
student involvement in volunteerism. Information were collected
at a University Sultan Zainal Abidin among the members of
student's volunteer organization that involved 210 respondents.
This study used quantitative method and all the information
obtained were conducted through survey. The results showed
that factor gaining a reward or honor found to be negatively
related to volunteer and other factors were positive related to the
volunteer. The Ministry of Higher Education should ensure that
volunteering is always raised as a living culture amongst students
and nurtured within them. Hence, it can be developed the soul to
sympathy and courtesy, harmonize the community with concern
and affection in the pursuit of sustainable community
development
Locus Of Control And Association With Emotional Stability Among The Medical Students
Locus of Control refers to the extent to which people feel that they have control over the events that influence
their lives. It has been realized that internal locus of control goes hand in hand with emotional stability. Current study aims at
finding out the association between internal locus of control and emotional stability among the medical students. This was a
cross-sectional study carried out on medical students of University Sultan Zainal Abidin; the participants were 100 included
preclinical and clinical medical students of Year I to Year V of academic session 2017/2018 selected by using simple
random sampling technique. Data were collected usingLevenson’s Locus of Control scale and Eysanck personality inventory
to study the association between Locus of Control and emotional stability. The data was statistically analyzed using SPSS
Version 21. Out of 124 participants 100 students responded adequately among these respondents 34% (34) and 66% (66)
were males and females, respectively. Pearson Correlation test showed significant association between internal locus of
control and emotional stability is at the 0.01 level (2-tailed). The emotional stability was coefficient with locus of control.
Internal locus of control found with -.910 in the lower bound and -.730 in the upper bound. Medical schools should make
effort for realizing the significance of internal locus of control since it has its close association with emotional stability.
These insights may be helpful in promoting healthiness in budding doctors. And also scope for related studies such as
changing locus external to internal
Road Traffic Accident in Malaysia: Trends, Selected Underlying, Determinants and Status Intervention
This paper includes review of the trends, selected underlying, determinants and status intervention. The 1.17 million of deaths occur each
year worldwide due to road accidents 70 % of which occur in developing countries in the world. 65% of deaths involve pedestrian’s
causes, 35 % of which are children. Estimates suggest that 23–34 million people are injured worldwide every year in road crashes. Fatal
accidents are among the major factors of death in the world apart from chronic diseases such as stroke, lung infections, respiratory difficulties
and heart disease. The rise in fatal accidents in Malaysia is 70%. This study was conducted to study the rate of fatal accidents on
roads in the state of Selangor and Perlis based on fatal accident data for a period of five years from 2013 to 2017. The data were analyzed
using quantitative methods which took into account the research conducted by researchers last. Based on analyzed data, the state of Selangor
recorded the highest accident rate while Perlis state recorded the lowest accident rate. Among other things being studied are factors
affecting the rate of road accidents in both states. In conclusion, the traffic, the physical structure of the road and the road users' focus
is a factor of road accidents more concentrated in a particular area
The effect of Bacillus sp.(B43) on the growth of Pak choy and Red tilapia in aquaponics system
The objective of this study is to determine the effect of Bacillus sp. (B43) which were cultured into aquaponics
system to enhance the red tilapia (Oreochromis sp.) and Pak Choy (Brassica rapa) growth performance. Six
aquaponics sets have been setup, three (3) for control (without the addition of Bacillus sp. (B43) culture) and
another three (3) for bacteria treatment. The plant seedlings were transplanted into the aquaponics set a week
after the fish were released into the tank. The experiment started by culturing the Bacillus sp. (B43) into the tank
at 4x105/ml. Parameters such as fish length, fish body weight, plant height, number of leaves, ammonia content,
nitrate content, pH, Dissolved Oxygen (DO), were recorded weekly. The dry weight of the plants was recorded
at the end of the experiment. All the data has been analysed by using IBM SPSS Statistic version 25. Independent
Sample T-test was chosen to compare the mean of every data collected by weeks. For plant height, the result
showed that there are no significant differences between the control and bacteria treatment. However plant
height mean for control at week fourth was 5.678 ± 1.366 g lower than bacteria treatment 5.700 ± 1.211 g.
Analysis for a number of leaf and dry weight of Pak Choy also show no significant difference between bacteria
treatment and control. However, the dry weight mean for control was 0.904 ± 0.355 g and for bacteria treatment
is 0.947 ± 0.573 g. The fish weight and fish length showed there is no significant difference between the bacteria
treatment and control. As a conclusion, the addition of Bacillus sp. (B43) at 32x106/80ml into at 190 liter
aquaponics system of cultivating red tilapia (30 tails) and Pak Choy (6) does not show any significant difference
in fish and plant growth as well as the water quality for ammonia and nitrate content
Guest Satisfaction and Revisit Intention of Muslim Friendly Hotels in Malaysia
The hotel industry has remained one of the most competitive industries in the 21st century, and there is a great deal of study being done
on guest satisfaction and the consequent effects it has on guest loyalty and financial performance. Many studies have demonstrated that
hoteliers that have more satisfied guests experience higher guest loyalty and perform better financially compared to their competitors,
ensuring continuity of their business in the long term. The overwhelming demand for quality products and services among Muslim
travelers in recent years has led to the establishment of Muslim Friendly Hotels (MFH) in Malaysia and other Muslim countries. It is
widely believed that Muslims perceive Islam as something more than just a religion - it is a way of life. Hence, the religion shapes their
consumption behavior even during travel. Currently, very little research has examined the influence of satisfaction on revisit intention
among guests staying at MFH, specifically in Malaysia. Preliminary findings from a survey of hotel guests indicate that there is a
significant relationship between guest satisfaction and revisit intention, which further explains the importance of desirable hotel attributes
in influencing hotel selection and a guest’s experience
Preliminary Evaluation of Antioxidant and Cytotoxic Activity of Ethanolic Extract of Stingless Bees Propolis From Different Localities
Propolis is a resinous mixture collected from stingless bees and is reported to have various biological activities
such as antioxidant, antibacterial, antitumor and hepatoprotective. Location where bees were bread plays an
important role in determining the types and quality of propolis. This study aimed to investigate the effect of
locality on antioxidant and cytotoxic activity of propolis. Stingless bee Heterotrigona itama propolis was collected
from Besut (HI-BST), Dungun (HI-DGN), Tanah Merah (HI-TM) and Gua Musang (HI-GM). The antioxidant
activity of these propolis was determined using 2, 2-diphenyl-1-picrylhydrazy (DPPH) and 2, 2'-Azino-Bis-3-
Ethylbenzothiazoline-6-Sulfonic Acid (ABTS). Cytotoxic and apoptotic activities of these propolis extracts were
determined through 3-(4, 5-Dimethylthiazol-2-yl)-2, 5-diphenyltetra-zolium Bromide (MTT Assay) and Annexin
V/PI double staining method using flow cytometer. HI-BST propolis sample has the highest antioxidant
capacity with IC50 value of 10 ± 2.623 μgmL-1 (DPPH free radical scavenging) and 30 ± 1.857 μgmL-1 (ABTS
free radical scavenging) followed by HI-DGN and HI-GM. For cytotoxic and apoptotic evaluation, HI-BST has
the highest cytotoxic, with IC50 value of 14 ± 0.910 μgmL-1 compare to other propolis samples. In apoptosis
assay, at concentration of 14 μgmL-1 (IC50), there were 44.84% of cell undergoes early apoptosis while 38.81 %
was viable cell. Overall, data from this study shown that propolis collected form university’s apiary (HI-BST) is
the best quality propolis compare to other location. Propolis from this location has good potential to be
developed as health-related product
The Good Exemplary and Its Impact on Advocacy Communal Peace
Consider the example whether good or bad is more persuasive and influential rather than
rhetoric no matter how eloquent and impressive it is. Perhaps this is reason Allah sent
messengers from mankind, showing them including manners and religion they claim to their
followers, and our Prophet Muhammad Allah bless him had been granted as the role model
and beacon of guidance. It is frustrating that our world we are living now snapped up by
enemies and have been planted with sectarian, racist and sectarian sedition in our societies,
which made Muslim blood that honoured by Allah turn worthless and remain no longer of
sanctity. This article aims to define the concept of role models and utmost importance in
current times in describing the concepts of our religion Islam based on the foundations of
peace, compassion and respect for the human race without any violence. It also aims to
indicate the importance of the role Islamic scholars and education in highlighting the
concepts of role models. The research has reached results that this religion was based on the
principle of education and good manners, building locked selves on virtue and altruism,
cooperation on establishing a harmonious society with these teachings. From another view,
social peace means stability, security and justice a guarantor for the rights of individuals in
society. Main resources of the good role models contains in the Holy Quran, guidance by
prophet peace be upon him while also can be gained by the depth reading of prophet
biography, reading stories of righteous Islamic scholars and stay connected with them while
also concern with education method purifying the soul and reforming inner self. It is
necessary to revive the role of Islamic scholars becoming good examples for people in
addition embarking upon college students on alerting, educate and reminding them to the
importance of commitment to the good example. On other hand, education has huge impact
in raising a great generation and full with Islamic faith. Regarding on that Islam has
seriously encouraged parents to become a creator of virtue and moralities to make complete
of Muslim houses and that is the main point
Processing And Properties Of Ni/YSZ Composite Coating On High Speed Steel Cutting Tool
The study involves coating the high speed steel (HSS) tool with Ni/YSZ composite via
electroless nickel co-deposition. Common commercialized coated cutting tool are AlN, TiN,
TiAlN and in this study Ni/YSZ is investigated. Ni/YSZ composite was successfully coated
onto the HSS cutting tool via electroless nickel co-deposition. The performance of Ni/YSZ
composite coated tool was compared to the uncoated and TiN coated tools for its surface
tolerance in milling of mild steel. Five samples of each type of cutting tools were run by using
Deckel Maho DMU50 CNC machine with five different levels of spindle speed ranges
between 800-1200 rpm and five different cutting lengths between 120-600 mm. The machined
work material surface tolerances were recorded using Mitutoyo SJ-301 surface roughness
tester. SEM/EDX analysis confirmed the existence of Ni and YSZ in the coating
