Ethidium bromide (chemical names:Dromilac, Homidium bromide or 3,8-Diamlno-5-ethyl-6-phenylphenanthridlnium bromide) fluoresces, when exposed to ultra violet light. Therefore, it is commonly used in analytical laboratories for visualizing nucleic acids. Ethidium bromide exhibits a vivid red-orange color when bound to nucleic acids. Elhidium bromide can be absorbed through exposed skin and mucus membranes. According to the PubChem-Laboratory Chemical Safety Summary (LCSS), Ethidium bromide is classified as an irritant to the eyes and skin, harmful if swallowed, toxic if inhaled and it is suspected to cause gen etic defects besides its carcinogenic effects. We have developed a novel, simple and cost-effective equipment to discard ethidium bromide In a short time by easiest and safest way. We designed a special filter made of activated charcoal with other inactive ingredients (under copyright). Because adsorption works by chemically binding the impurities to the carbon, the active sites in the charcoal eventually become filled. Activated charcoal filter becomes less effective with use and have to be replaced. The device consists of 3 main parts: the upper part is a stainless-steel basin containing electrical heating rods to melt gels containing ethidium bromide in the boiling water, the middle part is a disposable filter containing 5 layers, and the lower part is a rein forced Ober tank to collect the final liquid w1W disposed off in the sink (either directly or until fill it). The device has a keyboard to control the temperature, lime and changing the filler to incorporate towards IR 4.0 requirement as per ease of the use

The legal protection of the Tasik Chini biosphere reserve: Criminalisation of environmental harms

    No full text
The understanding of the environmental law has evolved significantly in recent times, and it provides the means of punishment or deterrent through criminalisation, policing and prosecution. Environmental crime can be defined as the perpetration of harm against the ecosystem and its inhabitants that violate the law. This is of high importance in protected areas such as the UNESCO Biosphere Reserves that focuses on the synergistic relationship between man and environment. This paper looks into the issue of environmental protection of the Tasik Chini Biosphere Reserve located in the rural area of the State of Pahang, Malaysia. The biosphere reserve status is up to review by UNESCO in 2019 and the alarming state of the lake ecosystem due to unabated anthropogenic interferences give rise to the risk of the area of losing its international recognition. Thus the need to look into the extent of legislative protection of the area through the environmental crime perspective. In the first section of the paper, the author describes the environmental harm that is afflicting the area based on the activities of logging, mining and agriculture. Next, the author reviews the corpus of legislation which is currently enforced in Malaysia. Although the study finds that there is no specific legislation dedicated to the biosphere reserve, there does exist relevant applicable laws which are sufficient for the purpose of criminalisation of environmental harm. This paper aims to explore the gaps and how the area can be better policed and managed against environmental crime

This research analyzed the perception of undergraduate students on learning English. This research adopted the theory on perception proposed by Efron (1968) in which he stated that perception is the primary cognitive contact of person with the world around him. It was completed by adopting quantitative method in which the data were collected by sharing questionnaire to undergraduate students as its respondents. The questionnaire was tested by Product Moment Pearson to meet its validity with t-table larger than r-table, and by Alpha Coefficient to meet its reliability with Cronbach's Alpha value larger than 0,6. Furthermore, the data obtained from the questionnaire were analyzed by using Likert Scale with four alternative responses. They were Strongly Disagree (0% - 24.99%), Disagree (25% - 49.99%), Agree (50% - 74.99%), and Strongly Agree (75% - 100%). The research found that the perception of the respondents towards English learning is 66%
