Epistemological beliefs of secondary school students: relation goal orientations, learning approaches, and science achievement

    No full text
The present study was conducted to examine the mediational role of achievement goal orientations and learning approach on the relation between epistemological beliefs about science and students' science achievement. This study was carried in the form of a survey, using questionnaires as a method of data collection. A total of 302 students (168 males, 134 females) between the age of 15-16 years old in Pahang, Malaysia participated in the study. Structure Equation Mode (SEM) was used to validate the proposed model. The result showed that epistemology beliefs exert a significant direct effect on science achievement. Mastery goals mediated the relationship between source and science achievement. Mastery, performance, and avoidance goals also mediated the relationship between certain and science achievement significantly. Mastery and avoidance goals mediated the relationship between development and science achievement. For the mediation role of learning approach, deep approach mediated the relationship between source and science achievement and also mediated the relationship between justification and science achievement. The result also showed that there are no significant differences

Hibah umra and ruqba in islamic law: a legal analysis

    No full text
Hibah umra and ruqba are the two forms of donation the Arabs were dealing with that in pre-Islamic period. It is apparently said that majority of the Muslim jurists are of the opinion that, the temporary or conditional hibah such as umra and ruqba are considered valid but the conditions are considered void. However, there are some stands which opine otherwise. Hence, this research sets out to make a legal study on this issue. The study follows the analytical method. The objective of this paper is to develop the principles and applications of these forms of hibah, ensuring the public wellbeing that conforms to the maqasid al-shari’ah. The research posits that these types of hibah could be the underlying ground for the survivorship principle in the joint tenancy arrangement. Moreover, it also could be one step forward to solve the ownership and hibah issues of the family takaful benefit

Analysis, control and circuit design of a novel chaotic system with line equilibrium

    No full text
In this paper, we describe a new 3-D chaotic system with line equilibrium. A detailed analysis of the proposed chaotic system is provided with MATLAB phase portraits, equilibrium points, symmetry, invariance, Lyapunov exponents, Kaplan-Yorke dimension, bifurcation diagram and a Poincare map. For specific values of the parameters, the proposed system displays chaotic behaviour. We apply adaptive control method for the global chaos synchronization of the new chaotic systems with unknown system parameters. In addition, a new circuit implementation of the new chaotic system is reported and examined in MultiSIM. A good qualitative agreement is shown between the simulations and the MultiSIM results

A multilateral modelling of youth soccer performance index (YSPI)

    No full text
This study aims to identify the most dominant factors that influencing performance of soccer player and to predict group performance for soccer players. A total of 184 of youth soccer players from Malaysia sport school and six soccer academy encompasses as respondence of the study. Exploratory factor analysis (EFA) and Confirmatory factor analysis (CFA) were computed to identify the most dominant factors whereas reducing the initial 26 parameters with recommended >0.5 of factor loading. Meanwhile, prediction of the soccer performance was predicted by regression model. CFA revealed that sit and reach, vertical jump, VO(2)max, age, weight, height, sitting height, calf circumference (cc), medial upper arm circumference (muac), maturation, bicep, triceps, subscapular, suprailiac, 5M, 10M, and 20M speed were the most dominant factors. Further index analysis forming Youth Soccer Performance Index (YSPI) resulting by categorizing three groups namely, high, moderate, and low. The regression model for this study was significant set as p < 0.001 and R-2 is 0.8222 which explained that the model contributed a total of 82% prediction ability to predict the whole set of the variables. The significant parameters in contributing prediction of YSPI are discussed. As a conclusion, the precision of the prediction models by integrating a multilateral factor reflecting for predicting potential soccer player and hopefully can create a competitive soccer games

A novel double-convection chaotic attractor, its adaptive control and circuit simulation

    No full text
A 3-D novel double-convection chaotic system with three nonlinearities is proposed in this research work. The dynamical properties of the new chaotic system are described in terms of phase portraits, Lyapunov exponents, Kaplan-Yorke dimension, dissipativity, stability analysis of equilibria, etc. Adaptive control and synchronization of the new chaotic system with unknown parameters are achieved via nonlinear controllers and the results are established using Lyapunov stability theory. Furthermore, an electronic circuit realization of the new 3-D novel chaotic system is presented in detail. Finally, the circuit experimental results of the 3-D novel chaotic attractor show agreement with the numerical simulations

The design of ultra-high frequency (UHF) radio frequency identification (RFID) reader antenna

    No full text
This paper presents the design of ultra-high frequency (UHF) radio frequency identification (RFID) reader antenna using low dielectric constant of microwave substrate. An RFID reader antenna emits electromagnetic signals to the microchip in the tag, and the microchip will be energized by modulating the wave and returns to the reader antenna. The process of wave emitting is known as backscattering due to the presence of tag been detected by the reader. High dielectric constant substrate, for example flame-retardant-4 (FR4) which is commonly used for microstrip patch antenna, is high in dielectric constant and dielectric loss. Thus, this will lead to low gain and directivity properties of the antenna. To overcome this matter, low-dielectric constant substrate which is Taconic TLY-5 was proposed to be utilized for microstrip patch antenna design. The TLY-5 microstrip substrate thickness used is 1.6 mm, dielectric constant of 2.2, and loss tangent of 0.019. A high-conductivity metal which is typically a conductive copper is been used for the two layers of dielectric substrate, the top radiating patch layer and bottom ground layer where the copper thickness is 0.035 mm. Microstrip feed line is used for this UHF RFID reader antenna. The width of the feed line was tuned to obtain impedance matching of 50 Omega. The proposed antenna which is fork-shaped patch antenna was simulated using Computer Simulation Technology (CST) and Microwave Studio software at resonant frequency of 910 MHz with the outcome results of 7.985 dB gain and -11.11 dB return loss. Nevertheless, the typical value obtained for VSWR is less than 2
