A giant parapharyngeal space carcinoma ex-pleomorphic adenoma: A case report
Parapharyngeal space tumor has been known to be uncommon. It accounts only about 0.5% of head and
neck neoplasm. Most of the lesions are benign in nature and salivary gland neoplasm being the most
common. A 32-year old Malay gentleman presented with long-standing parapharyngeal mass which
medialized the lateral pharyngeal wall. Biopsy was taken intraorally by soft palate mucosal incision
revealed carcinoma ex-pleomorphic adenoma and transcervical approach successfully removed the mass in
total. Post-operative radiotherapy was commenced and patient is well until recent follow up. Despite of the
rarity of pleomorphic adenoma in parapharyngeal space, it should be among the differential diagnosis and a
complete removal should be the aim as malignant transformation is possible in this type of pathology.
Computed tomography scan extending from base of skull till upper thorax are important in planning the
approach for complete removal of the mass followed by radiotherapy in malignant transformation cases
Effect of Probiotic on Microflora Population and Carcass Yield of Quail, Coturnix japonica
This study was conducted to determine the effect of dietary probiotic on intestinal and fecal microflora and carcass yield of broiler quails during the four weeks of feeding period. The quails were fed a basic diet (group 1) which acted as the control group; another 3 groups were fed basal diet with probiotic added at concentrations of 0.05%, 0.20% and 0.35% respectively for 28 days after two weeks of brooding. On day 42, fecal sample and intestinal sample were collected for microbial analysis and carcass yield of the quails was evaluated by cutting the selected parts of the carcass. The results showed that there was a significant difference (p 0.05) in Escherichia coli population in quail’s intestine between control and treatment group, but significantly (p < 0.05) different in Lactobacillus population. Different inclusion rate of probiotic including control showed negative result of Salmonella in both intestine and feces of quail. In addition, supplementation of the diet with probiotic resulted in higher dressing and legs percentage of the carcass but do not affect the breast percentage. This shows that adding probiotic to the broiler quail’s diet can improve the performance of the quails by increasing the beneficial microflora and reducing the pathogenic microorganisms, and relatively higher carcass yields
Survey on Pest and Disease of Corn (Zea Mays Linn) grown at BRIS Soil Area
A field survey was conducted to identified insect pest, beneficial insect and plant disease that associated with
corn (Zea mays Linn) at BRIS soil area. Hybrid sweet corn variety Sugar King 516 was used as a sentinel plant in
this study. All insect pest and beneficial insect observed at the experimental plot was collected and identified in
the laboratory. Corn plant that shows the symptom of disease infection was collected for the isolation of
pathogen and identification. The data on plant growth such as plant height, corn ear height, dry straw weight,
ear weight, ear length, grain dry weight and shell weight was recorded. Data obtained shows the performance
and adaptability of hybrid sweet corn variety Sweet King 516 in this experiment was comparable to the local
hybrid sweet corn grown at other BRIS soil area at Terengganu. There is no strange pattern on the plant growth,
thus prove that the insect infestation or disease infection does not disturb the plant development. Thirteen
species of insect pest were identified. There are grasshopper (family Acrididae), katydid (family Tettigoniidae),
sweet potato bug (Physomerus grossipes- family Coreidae), derbid plant hopper (Proutista moesta- family Derbidae),
cotton stainer (Dysdercus sp- family Pyrrhocoridae), largid bug (Physopelta sp- family Largidae), corn leaf hopper
(Peregrinus maidis- family Delphacidae), corn rootworms (Diabrotica virgifera- family Chrysomelidae), green chafer
beetle (Anomala albopilosa- family Scarabaeidae) and tussock moth (Orgyia sp- family Erebidae). Three species of
predatory insect were identified; Asian lady beetles (Harmonia axyridis- family Coccinellidae), transverse lady
beetle (Coccinella transversalis- family Coccinellidae) and assassin bug (family Reduviidae). Two species of fungal
pathogen that attacks corn in this experiment were identified as Fusarium sp. and Puccinia sp. Data obtained in
this study provides info on pests and diseases associateed with corn, thus could be beneficial for the farmers to
be prepared with the best pest and management strategies for their corn plantation at BRIS soil area
Radioepidemiologic and experimental evidence: Health risks associated with radiofrequency radiation exposure
Public exposure to Electromagnetic Radiation, which
abbreviatedly known as EMR is a recurring phenomenon and it
becomes among the factors contributing to the public concerns.
EMR represents a new technology, such as base stations,
overhead power lines and other sources of exposure, that is
difficult to control by the affected individual. Non-ionizing and
ionizing radiation are two major divisions of the electromagnetic
spectrum. Both kinds of radiation can be differentiated based on
which one has enough energy to knock electrons off atoms upon
collision, as well as capable to give out lower-energy harm, such
as breaking chemical bonds in molecules. Ionizing radiation is a
type of radiation that has a short wavelength to interact with the
electrons in biological chemicals. Alpha, beta, and gamma rays
are examples of ionizing radiation. The literature on RF effects
also focused on the human factor and health parameters, both
from the laboratory and epidemiological study perspectives. The
presence of this communication technology has given rise to
media and public concerns about the possibility of RF radiation
emitted by computers, phones and base stations that might cause
a rise in diseases that affect the reproductive system,
neurobehavioral parameters and various forms of cancers,
especially brain tumours. More recently, concerns about the
possible effects culminating from the massive development of
base stations coupled with increasing use of mobile phones have
begun to appear due to the enormous growth of wireless mobile
communication, mainly handheld devices. This has led to
increased apprehension as to whether non-ionizing radiation
(NIR) used in present technologies could have short, medium and
long-term biological effects
Otolith morphology and body size relationships of Monopterus albus in Malaysia
Monopterus albus production in Malaysia is widely
depends on wild stock. Otolith morphology has been widely used
to give additional information that is crucial for aiding the seed
production. Otolith morphology of Asian swamp eel, Monopterus
albus and its relationships to fish size was examined. A total of
125 samples were collected from the East Coast of Peninsular
Malaysia (ECPM) and Sabah for analyses. Otolith descriptions
were based on its outline, including otolith length (OL, mm),
otolith height (OH, mm) and otolith weight (OW, mm). Fish total
length (TL, cm) and body weight (BW, kg) were also measured
and recorded. Paired t-test result (p-value > 0.05) showed there is
no statistically significant difference between left and right otolith
dimensions. Regression models related to otolith morphometric
parameters with eel length and body weight were determined.
There is no morphological difference between left and right
otolith of swam eel observed. Otolith weight is a good indicator of
body weight (R2
=0.8994) and total length of fish (R2
=0.8707)
since the R2
value is strongest than other relationship. If the
otolith weight used to estimate the length and body weight of eel,
the regression explains more than 87% of data variation in this

The suitability of mutawatir concept as one of research methods in Islam
Sanad mutawatir is one of the most important in terms of determining a month as qiraat qiraat it was
revealed to the Prophet Muhammad. When a qira'at have a chain that reaches the level of mutawatir,
then it is recognized as one of al-Qur'an qiraat authentic and valid read it counted as worship either in
prayer or outside prayer. With the elements consecutively in a qiraat, qiraat position can be confirmed
as one qiraat mutawatirah. The concept of mutawatir in this Qiraat views can be used in scientific
research studies nowadays. Hence, this paper aims to identify the concept of mutawatir in the next Qiraat
mutawatir analyze the suitability of the concept in the context of determining the validity of research
data. The question is whether the elements in the concept of mutawatir? How does this concept
mutawatir capable and suitable to be used in determining the validity of the data? To answer both of these questions, this paper uses the method library and textual analysis. This paper finds that there are
at least two elements in this concept of the nature of the narrator and the number of transmitters at each
stage of data collection. Both of these elements lead to a strengthening of data provided
A study on depression, anxiety, and stress scale according to status and gender among Islamic shelter care residents in Terengganu, Malaysia
Objective: The aim of this study is to identify depression, anxiety, and stress symptoms on
status and gender among the residents of Islamic Care Shelter in Terengganu, Malaysia.
198 residents of 9 Islamic Care Shelter's institutions was used as a sample. Methods:
Principal Component Analysis (PCA) was used in this research to revealed multilateral
dominant variables for the residents. Meanwhile, the other method had been used is
Multivariate Analysis of Variance (MANOVA) to discover the significance of independent
variables which is status and gender. Result: PCA showed that there was 6 factor dominant
that contribute to DASS questionnaire. For MANOVA, the result showed that there was
difference significant interaction effect between status and gender. For the categorical status
between orphan and non-orphan showed the value of significant is 0.023 and for gender is
0.001. These both proved that p-value is less than 0.05. Conclusion: We recommend that
the further study about DASS need to be more widely distributed among the marginalized
group
An overview of ABO and Rh blood group disseminationin general population of Azad Kashmir, Pakistan
Until now, about 400 red cell's antigens have been identified. The ABO and Rhesus (Rh) blood groups are
considered much significant concerning blood transfusion.Based on the type of antigen carried by the red cells,
every person has a blood group. Blood groups are hereditarily decided, and phenotypes havedifferent distribution
both within and between geographical boundaries. The aim of the study was assessment of blood group
distribution among the localpopulation of Azad Kashmir. The current research work was conducted at the
medical laboratory of Government District Hospital, Kotli, Azad Kashmir, between the duration Oct 2017 to Jan
2018. A total of 3450 subjectswere included, and blood grouping was determined by the glass slide technique
using commercially available antisera.Out of 3450 subjects, 1881 (54.52%) were men, whereas 1569 (45.48%)
were women. The most frequent blood group present was B (36.64%) followed closely by O (29.33%), A
(20.93%) and AB (13.1%).A majority of participants, i.e. 3092 (89.62%) were positive for Rh antigen, while 358
(10.38%) people were negative for Rh antigen. The outcomes would generate useful records for transfusion
medicine practices at local level as well as at national level. Such inquiries need to be completed in other
communities too
The predominance of Helicobacter pylori infection in children with abdominal cramping
Helicobacter pylori (H. pylori) infection is a common problem in pediatric practice, and its acquisition is related
to poor socioeconomic conditions. Although the organism is thought to be responsible for many diseases, it
starts its symptoms from abdominal cramping and ultimately leads to gastric ulcer. The current research aimed
to evaluate the occurrence of H. Pylori infection in children presented with abdominal cramping in a tertiary
care setting at Lahore. The cross-sectional descriptive study was conducted at The Children Hospital and
Institute of Child Health (CH & ICH) Lahore, Pakistan. In this study, 94 children of both genders were included.
Blood samples were collected in a clotted gel vial after obtaining informed consent. Immunoassay method was
used for the quantitative detection of IgG class antibodies. 49% of patients were positive for Anti H. PyloriIgG
immunoglobulin. The H. pylori prevalence rate in females is more than that of males. Among positive patients,
15 (33%) males and 31(67%) females were affected. The results of the current study revealed that females are
more infected by H. pylori than males. The statistical analysis obtained from the present study showed that the
occurrence of Helicobacter pylori infection is the leading cause of recurrent abdominal discomfort in children
Level of knowledge, belief and altruism towards organ donation among final year students in the faculty of medicine at University Kebangsaan Malaysia, Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia
Higher medical technological development and better awareness has affected the public’s perception on organ donation
positively. One of the strategic plans by the Ministry of Health is to target the younger generation to achieve long-term
changes in this issue through a variety of appropriate channels. This study aimed to assess the level of knowledge, belief and
altruism towards organ donation among final year students from the Faculty of Medicine in University Kebangsaan
Malaysia, Kuala Lumpur. Questionnaires were distributed to 190 respondents from two programs involving 173 (91.1%)
medical students and 17 (8.9%) nursing students via systematic random sampling. The Cronbach’s alpha coefficient value for
belief was 0.626 and 0.853 for altruism. This study showed that level knowledge of students with mean score of 60.92 (S.P ±
8.79) was at a moderate level for 109 (57.4%), 80 students (42.1%) at a high level and one for (0.5%) at low level. The overall
students level of belief with the mean score of 27.00 (± 4.93 S.P) was positive with 110 (57.9%) while 80 students (42.1%) with
negative belief. The altruistic level with mean score 35.46 (S.P ± 10.76) of 146 students (76.8%) at a moderate level, 41
students (21.6%) at high level and only 3 (1.6%) at low level. In correlation analysis, there are relationship between level of
knowledge towards altruistic and knowledge towards beliefs (p <0.05). However, there is no significant relationship between
knowledge with beliefs because of the value of p> 0.05. In conclusion, the level of knowledge should be further enhanced
among medical and nursing students with the hope that increased knowledge will positively influence the belief system and
the altruistic behaviour of respondents regarding the concept of organ donation
