The beginning of the month for the Hijri calendar begins when the Moon appears or uses the method of hisab. In context Hijri calendar in Malaysia, determination for the crescent moon by the imkannur rukyah. According to this method, the beginning of the Hijri month begins when the Moon exists and visible. Based on this justification the date of the new Hijri month was arranged. One of the main features of the Islamic calendar, including the Hijri calendar, is that the calendar period must same with the Moon phase. Therefore, the accuracy of the sighting crescent moon criterion can be tested by the Moon phase. For this purpose, the test can be done by comparing the phases of the Moon with the Hijri calendar. By observation the phases of the Moon phases on the dates near the full moon, on the 12th, 13th, 14th, 15th and 16th nights, the accuracy of the Moon phase with the Hijri date is analyzed. The analysis was performed by comparing the sunset with the rising Moon, as well as the percentage of phases of the Moon captured in photography. This information matches the Hijri calendar to find out the accuracy of the Moon phase with the Hijri calendar. The results show that, based on the date of the Malaysia Hijri calendar, the full moon phase occurs partly on the 14th night of the 15th day and the rest on the 15th night of the 16th day

    No full text
Diabetes mellitus (DM) is the most critical health problem of chronic renal disorder that has become a major reason in medical treatments of dialysis and kidney transplantation. In Malaysia, Etlingera elatior has been used as a native medicine to reduce blood sugar among diabetic patients. This study aims to evaluate the therapeutic effect of crude aqueous E. elatior flowers extract (AEEFE) on streptozotocin (STZ)- induced diabetic rats taken orally. The effective dose in lowering blood glucose level in acute test was found to be 300 mg/kg in the present study, and this was further evaluated in sub-acute test. The fasting blood glucose level and the body weight of the rats were weekly monitored. At the end of the study, biochemical parameters were subjected and the kidney histology was examined using hematoxylin and eosin (H&E) staining and scanning electron microscope (SEM). From the results, AEEFE appeared to significantly reduce the blood glucose level compared to the untreated diabetic rat with consistent body weight. In addition, blood urea nitrogen (BUN)has also shown a significant decrease in AEEFE-treated diabetic rats compared to the control group. The histological analysis of kidney rats treated with AEEFEillustrated no change in the size and structure of glomeruli with well-defined glomerular capillaries. Likewise, no mesangial hypercellularity was found. SEM analysis has supported present findings by demonstrating well branched podocytes with fenestrated foot processes arranged in parallel. Consequently, it is suggested that AEEFE has high potential to reduce blood glucose level without histological changesin renal function system of diabetic patients

Low intensity white noise improves performance in auditory working memory task: An fMRI study

    No full text
Research suggests that white noise may facilitate auditory working memory performance via stochastic resonance. Stochastic resonance is quantified by plotting cognitive performance as a function of noise intensity. The plot would appear as an inverted U-curve, that is, a moderate noise is beneficial for performance whereas too low and too much noise attenuates performance. However, knowledge about the optimal signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) needed for stochastic resonance to occur in the brain, particularly in the neural network of auditory working memory, is limited and demand further investigation. In the present study, we extended previous works on the impact of white noise on auditory working memory performance by including multiple background noise levels to map out the inverted U-curve for the stochastic resonance. Using functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI), twenty healthy young adults performed a word-based backward recall span task under four signal-to-noise ratio conditions: 15, 10, 5, and 0-dB SNR. Group results show significant behavioral improvement and increased activation in frontal cortices, primary auditory cortices, and anterior cingulate cortex in all noise conditions, except at 0-dB SNR, which decreases activation and performance. When plotted as a function of signal-to-noise ratio, behavioral and fMRI data exhibited a noise-benefit inverted U-shaped curve. Additionally, a significant positive correlation was found between the activity of the right superior frontal gyrus (SFG) and performance in 5- dB SNR. The predicted phenomenon of SR on auditory working memory performance is confirmed. Findings from this study suggest that the optimal signal-to-noise ratio to enhance auditory working memory performance is within 10 to 5-dB SNR and that the right SFG may be a strategic structure involved in enhancement of auditory working memory performance

    No full text
Vocabulary learning strategies enhance reading comprehension, which is considered as an essential part of English language learning as without grammar, very little can be conveyed; Without vocabulary, nothing can be conveyed. The literature of vocabulary learning has highlighted the importance of using vocabulary learning strategies as they help students in their English Learning process. However, few studies have been conducted to offer more insights into the vocabulary learning strategies (VLS) used by EFL learners. Hence, the researchers are concentrating on understanding the process of learning vocabulary, making students self-sufficient in learning. Therefore, the present study investigates the role of VLS in reading comprehension

Kepentingan maqasid shariʻah dalam keputusan muzakarah jawatankuasa fatwa majlis kebangsaan bagi hal ehwal ugama Islam Malaysia the importance of maqasid shariah in the muzakarah of the national fatwa council for Islamic religious affairs Malaysia

    No full text

The woman and political participation in the light of the holy Quran

    No full text
The issue of the woman’s participation in the political action until today has become one of the most controversial issues on the jurisprudential level and even on the theoretical social level, taking into consideration that the woman is one of the basic pivots in the process of social change and comprehensive development. Some have tried to depriv the woman of her rights and to keep her in a stage without the Lord’s honoring of her, which was bestowed upon her by Almighty God. Also others have tried to uproot the Muslim woman from her Lord’s method out of going with the Western woman. So this research came to contribute in drawing a road according to which is completed the of building of a sound and healthy society which attains the most sublime degrees of perfection with the participation of the woman in the political action under the modern needs . In order to reform the nation we need a new vision which suits our reality. This cannot be done unless we go beyond the narrow concept of the woman’s participation in the political action to the comprehensive concept. The research aims to indicate the position of Islam vis-à-vis the role of the woman in the political action in the light of the Holy Quran and the impediments of the effective political participation of the Muslim woman in our present age. The researcher has used the descriptive methodology and the historical methodology in her study. Among the most important results which were reached are that the Islamic religion honored the Muslim woman and elevated her status and emphasized her rights, and that the origin in Islam is the equality between the man and the woman , so there is neither distinction between the man and the woman and nor difference between the two of them whether this is in the origin of their creation or the religious law obligations. It is inevitable to empower the woman through her active participation in the different domains specially the political domains, without a conflict with her main role of taking care of the family and raising the generations within the religious law controls which were emphasized by the Holy Quran
