    Maggot debridement therapy - a FLY-ing miracle : A single centre experience

    No full text
Abscess and carbuncle has always been a large part of surgical practice especially in the Asian continent where Diabetes prevalence is sky rocket high. Wound debridement and wound dressing has played paramount part in the management of abscesses and carbuncles over the years. The advancements in the field of wound care has promoted wound healing by secondary intention very much. An evolution that is known but rarely used is maggot debridement therapy (MDT). Observations have indicated that maggots (Lucilia sericata larvae) have the ability to debride wound beds, provide anti-microbial activity and also stimulate wound healing in diabetic patients. We present here a case report of use of MDT in a centre that is unfamiliar with it - Kuala Terengganu

Estimation of aggregate claim risk model on insurance for damage to buildings due to flooding of the citarum river in Bandung Indonesia

    No full text
Claim risk for flood insurance is a payment made by an insurance company to policyholders. Actuaries in insurance companies must be able to measure and control the risk of claims, so there will be no loss to insurance companies. In this paper, an estimation of the risk model of aggregate claim risk on damage loss insurance due to flooding of the Citarum river in Bandung Indonesia. Estimates are made on the claim frequency model, and the model for the amount of the claim. Using the claim frequency model estimator, and the claim amount model estimator, then used to estimate the risk of aggregate claims. The results of the analysis show that the claim frequency follows the Poisson distribution model, and the amount of the claim follows the normal distribution model. So that, based on the claim frequency estimator and the claim amount estimator can be used to measure the risk of claims on insurance losses caused by flooding of the Citarum rive

Web Data Extraction Approach for Deep Web using WEIDJ

    No full text
Data extraction is one of the most prominent areas in data mining analysis that is been extensively studied especially in the field of data requirements and reservoir. The main aim of data extraction with regards to semi-structured data is to retrieve beneficial information from the World Wide Web. The data from large web data also known as deep web is retrievable but it requires request through form submission because it cannot be performed by any search engines. Data mining applications and automatic data extraction are very cumbersome due to the diverse structure of web pages. Most of the previous data extraction techniques were dealing with various data types such as text, audio, video and etc. but research works that are focusing on image as data are still lacking. Document Object Model (DOM) is an example of the state of the art of data extraction technique that is related to research work in mining image data. DOM was the method used to solve semi-structured data extraction from web. However, as the HTML documents start to grow larger, it has been found that the process of data extraction has been plagued with lengthy processing time and noisy information. In this research work, we propose an improved model namely Wrapper Extraction of Image using DOM and JSON (WEIDJ) in response to the promising results of mining in a higher volume of web data from a various types of image format and taking the consideration of web data extraction from deep web. To observe the efficiency of the proposed model, we compare the performance of data extraction by different level of page extraction with existing methods such as VIBS, MDR, DEPTA and VIDE. It has yielded the best results in Precision with 100, Recall with 97.93103 and F-measure with 98.9547

Professional Skills Requirement of Mechanical Engineers

    No full text
Professional Skills is the basic requirement that all engineers need to master in the current job market. This study was conducted throughout peninsular Malaysia using the Soft Skills Model introduced by the Ministry of Education (MoE). Among the objectives of this study is the level of requirement of the Soft Skills (SS) element to produce a competitive Mechanical Engineer and identify the most dominant Soft Skills needed in the current job market against Mechanical Engineers. The questionnaire distributed to respondents and data was analysed using XL-STAT 2014 software to obtain Discriminant Analysis (DA) to achieve the objective of the study. The overall percentage for (SS) elements is 91% respectively. This study will be a complementary set for the students of Mechanical Engineering in Malaysia. Mastering the features required by the industry makes it easy for students to put themselves in the real job world

Derivative Free Conjugate Gradient Method via Broyden's Update for solving symmetric systems of nonlinear equations

    No full text
The applications of mathematics in many areas of computing, scientific and engineering research mostly give rise to a systems of nonlinear equations. Various iterative methods have been developed to solve such equations, this includes Newton method, Quasi-Newton's etc. Over the years, there has been significant theoretical study on quasi-Newton methods for solving such systems, but unfortunately the methods suffers setback. To overcome such problems, a Derivative free Method for Solving Symmetric Systems of Nonlinear Equations Using Broyden's Update is presented. The modification is achieved by simply approximating the inverse Hessian matrix to with (δ and I represents acceleration parameter and an identity matrix respectively) without computing any derivative. The method uses the symmetric structure of the system sufficiently and the generalized classical Broyden's update method for unconstrained optimization problems. The squared norm merit function is used, both the direction and the line search technique are derivative-free, this attractive feature of the proposed method makes it to have a very low storage requirement thereby solving large scale problems successfully. In an effort to solve nonlinear problems of the form F(x) = 0, 0, x ∈ R different initial starting points were used on a set of benchmark test problems, the output is based on number of iterations and CPU time. A comparison between the proposed method and the classical methods were made and found that the proposed method is efficient, robust and outperformed the existing method

Viral on social media: an analysis on customary practice

    No full text
Customary practice has been one of the most important sources in almost all jurisprudence in the world. In Islamic law, ‘urf or ‘adah is classified under secondary sources in determining fiqh rulings or Shari’ah injunctions. There are many cases that indicate the importance of ‘urf in the formation and development of Islamic law. This paper highlights the conditions for the validity of a custom to be part of legal system and whether viral in social media can be recognized as a new custom under Islamic law. This is a doctrinal research paper

A New 4-D Hyperchaotic System with Four-Scroll Hidden Attractor, Its Properties and Bifurcation Analysis

    No full text
This paper announces a new four-dimensional hyperchaotic system with a four-scroll attractor and discusses its dynamic properties such as Lyapunov exponents, phase portraits, Kaplan-Yorke dimension and equilibrium points. Our calculations show that the new hyperchaotic system has no equilibrium point and hence it exhibits hidden attractor. Our new hyperchaotic system has three nonlinearities in total. A detailed bifurcation analysis has been presented for the new hyperchaotic system with four-scroll hidden attractor. Specifically, we discussed bifurcation analysis such as route to four-scroll hyperchaos, coexisting bifurcation, multistability, two parameter Lyapunov exponents and antimonotonicity

A new 3-D chaotic system with four quadratic nonlinear terms, its global chaos control via passive control method and circuit design

    No full text
This paper reports the finding of a new three-dimensional chaotic system with four quadratic nonlinear terms. The paper starts with a detailed dynamic analysis of the properties of the system such as phase plots, Lyapunov exponents, Kaplan-Yorke dimension and equilibrium points. Our new chaotic system is obtained by modifying the dynamics of the Zhu chaotic system (2010), and it has complex chaotic properties. As an engineering application, passive control method is applied for the global chaos control of the new chaotic system. Finally, an electronic circuit implementation of the new chaotic system is designed and implemented in MultiSIM. A good qualitative agreement has been shown between the MATLAB simulations of the new chaotic system and the MultiSIM results
