Mosquito home system: A case study of practical model to fight aedes in Kedah, Malaysia
INTRODUCTION: Dengue is a vector borne disease transmitted by Aedes mosquito. Preventing or reducing the virus transmission depends entirely on controlling the mosquito vectors. Transmission control activities should target Aedes in its immature stages (egg, larva and pupa) and adult stages in the household and immediate vicinity. This paper presents an alternative mechanism of combating this global disease by using an auto dissemination trap, called Mosquito Home System (MHS). METHODS: MHS is equipped with a special trade secret solution that is called as Insecticide Growth Regulator (IGR) is non-toxic, has a pheromone-like liquid formulation that is a chemical that serves to stimulate and have sexually attract the male and female that will attract and lure female mosquitoes to lay eggs in them, and will soon die after lying eggs. Those eggs that already laid with the chemical will not hatch or die at an expected 99% rate or go beyond the pulp level. This liquid prevents the food for the larvae into the water and in turn will kill the larvae. Once it lays eggs in the MHS, it kills the larvae and pulp in the new breeding ground. RESULTS: Data taken from October 2018 to April 2019 in Taman Ria, Sungai Petani, Kedah, Malaysia reveals that the decrease percentage of 82% on overall total number of Aedes eggs collected through MHS pots installed in that area. DISCUSSION: The MHS implementation in controlling dengue disease caused by Aedes mosquito could be enforced to the national and international level community
Assesment of trace metals using chemometric analysis in Kuantan River, East Coast Malaysia
Chemometric techniques were applied to identify and assess the trace metals of Kuantan River water. Water samples
from nine sampling stations were taken from downstream of the estuary towards the upstream of Kuantan River.
The following trace metals were selected for analysis i.e. Hg, Cd, Pb, As, Co and Cr. To evaluate chemical variation on
the variables, multivariate statistical methods like principal components analysis (PCA), cluster analysis (CA) and
discriminant analysis (DA) were performed. The homogeneity characteristics between the stations were integrated
by cluster analysis, which were represented by dendrograms and were classified according to their surrounded
activities. PCA was identified four factors namely Cr, Hg, Pb and Co explaining 77.8% of the total variance. PCA
revealed that Kuantan River is strongly affected by point sources such as commercial wastewater, industries and
non-point sources especially from agriculture activities. The CA classified three clusters as commercial centre (CC),
residential areas (RA) and agricultural areas (AA). AA located in the upstream is less polluted than RA, while CC
located in the downstream is more polluted than RA. These statistical approaches and results yielded useful
information including identification of pollution sources/factors and understanding temporal variations in river
water for effective river water quality management
Real earnings management in family-affiliated firms: Empirical evidence from Malaysia
Research aim: This paper examines the effects of size and complex structure of
family-affiliated business groups on Real Earnings Management (REM)
practices in Malaysian listed firms.
Design/Methodology/Approach: Family-affiliated business groups listed on
Bursa Malaysia during the years 2006 to 2015 filtered using specific criteria were
selected as the sample. STATA software was used to analyse the panel data, and
two different regression models were run for the empirical testing to examine
the effects of size and group complexity.
Research finding: It is evidenced that the size and complexity structure of
family-affiliated business groups are positively associated with REM, measured
by abnormal cash flow from operations and abnormal discretionary expenses,
but negatively associated with abnormal production cost.
Theoretical contribution/Originality: Since previous studies based on
Malaysian public listed firms focus on Accruals Earnings Manipulation (AEM),
this study broadens the scope by providing empirical evidence on the
relationship between family-affiliated firms’ characteristics and REM.
Practitioner/ Policy implication: Investors, auditors, analysts and practitioners
should consider family-affiliated firms as a factor that significantly induces
earnings manipulation. The result is also relevant for regulators in regulating
takeover rules or tax policy to affiliated groups in order to create incentives for
them to maintain a specific size or complexity structure, or otherwise, be
penalised for exceeding the size or complexity characteristics.
Research limitation/ Implication: The results from this study may apply to
Asian countries with similarities in family ownership to that in Malaysia. The
findings, however, may not apply to developed countries where family
concentration and pyramidal structure are not significant
Sustainability disclosure on environmental reporting: A review of literature in developing countries
In recent decades, environmental issues have emerged as a topic of increasing importance in the
accounting literature. Environmental matters associated with industrial activities have increased public
concerns about both financial and non-financial performance of firms leading to arising pressure for the
disclosure and studies of environmental reporting, especially in developed countries. In the developing
countries, however, relatively limited research in this area has been published, particularly in the Arab region.
The main objective of this article is to present a review of recent literature on the sustainability accounting
disclosure in developing countries. A number of theoretical frameworks have been developed to provide a
further understanding of the concept of accounting for the disclosure. The literature reveals that the stakeholder
theory is utilized in most studies. According to this theory, firms have to provide sustainability and
environmental disclosure due to the pressures from all types of stakeholders and communities. Other theories
which have been advanced to explain the disclosure practice include political economy, legitimacy, and
institutional theory. In general, no specific theory is complete on its own or superior to another. The focus of
this review is on identifying the determinants of the environmental disclosures and the current gap in those
studies. These determinants can be divided into four groups. The first group examines the national contextual\ud
factors, the second group investigates the ownership structure, the third group evaluates companies’
characteristics, and final group investigates governance attributes as the determinants of the environmental
disclosure practice. The review reveals a large variation related to environmental disclosure level in
developing countries. The article contributes to the literature by providing a further understanding of
environmental disclosure practices in countries where published studies are still very limited. This study also
provides recommendations and direction for future research on sustainability environmental disclosure
Non-english major students’ perceptions towards the use of english in everyday communication
This paper explores about the non-English major students’ perceptions of the use of English in
everyday communication. Students who are majoring in the English field has a different
perception of the use of English in everyday communication compared to non-English major
students. As for the English major students, communicating in English may not be a problem
for them. Nevertheless, for the non-English major students, they might face some difficulties to
use English as a medium to communicate in their daily life. Hence, it has led to the existence
of this study. The main focus of the study is to identify the perceptions of the non-English major
students towards the use of English in everyday communication, to find out to what extent the
non-English major students were motivated to use and learn English and to find out to what
extent the non-English major students were motivated to use and learn English. A sample of
100 respondents A sample of 100 respondents from the non-English major students in UniSZA
was used for the study. The data were collected by using Google Form and the analysis was
done by using SPSS. The findings revealed most of the respondents have positive perceptions
and motivation towards the use of English in everyday communication. The researcher
recommends that future research should expand the size of sampling and try to use either
qualitative or mix method research design
Knowledge, attitude, and awareness of antibiotic resistance among medical students
Background: There is a rising trend in antibiotic use and misuse which contributes to antibiotic resistance. Objective: This cross‑sectional,
questionnaire‑based study was to assess the knowledge, attitude, and awareness of antibiotic resistance among medical students.
Materials and Methods: The study was conducted on medical students of all years (year 1–5) in a private university of Malaysia coincide
with the “Antibiotic Awareness Week” of the World Health Organization. Results: Students in the clinical phase of their training had more
awareness than the preclinical phase on the consumption of antibiotics over the counter without prescription (P = 0.008). Students of both the
phases responded differently when asked whether the newer antibiotics were more effective in treating infection (P = 0.022). Only 43.5% of
year 4 and 42.3% of year 5 students were aware (P = 0.036) about Antibiotic Awareness Week. Conclusion: The study concludes that medical
students should have in‑depth knowledge about antibiotic resistance and its underlying mechanisms to prevent the misuse of antibiotics
مكانة الأرض في القرآن والسنة على ضوء المقاصد الشرعية
In the age of technology and progress many individuals seek to gain from undertaking online
commerce and marketing, through opening commercial site shops or others. This is
undoubtedly desirable, but in this research I want to draw attention to one of the old course of
gaining, that humankind is still in need of, even urged by the wise law in the Qur’an and
Sunnah, namely the reclamation of the uncultivated lands, and this is one of the basics of
legitimate gain, and it follow from this research that exerting effort in this reclamation realize
the purposes of Shariah in terms of benefiting Muslims with development and urbanization,
as well as realizing the vicegerency of man on earth, and through all these the purpose of
justice in Islamic law is achieved by fair distribution of the sources of production and by
cutting off the exploitation of the weak by the bourgeois and entrepreneurs and ensuring
distributive justice of public funds. Thus money is traded between individuals in a manner
that realizes justice and reduces the difference in classes. And it is known that one of the
purposes of shari‘ah in reclamation is to convert the lands that are favorable to productive
force. Therefore, whoever violates this, for deficiency or negligence, his ownership to this
land will be sanctioned. In order to achieve public interest, it is not permissible to reclaim
lands that benefiting the public such as roads, pastures, water pool and lest there is wrangle
among people there should have permission from imam before reclaiming
Reviewing malaysian university english test (MUET) report writing: The move analysis of a corpus-based approach
This paper explores a potential methodology to discover the discourse construction of
Malaysian University English Test (MUET) Paper 4- Writing: Question 1- Report Writing (P4-
Q1), one of the important components that make up the significant test. First, it reviews the
details of this task as assigned by the MOE followed by the critical role that the test plays at
various levels of educational institutions nationwide, justifying on the unequal allocation of
emphasis and guidelines that govern the task which is translated through the test candidates’
achievements. Next, it reviews the evidence of how move analysis is likely impactful to shed
light for a reliable solution to this issue by accounting on the practicality of reviewing a widely
used model in the field, the BCU Approach. In this way, an established framework can possibly
be constructed. Finally, it calls for a future research to further exercise this framework through
the analysis of reputable corpus where the highly potential of texts samples are contained
Effectiveness test on hardness performance of plastic waste and sawdust composite
The strength of a material is one option used to
determine the use of forms. The use of plastics on product
packaging is an efficient choice because plastics is light, practical
and easy to forms. This study is done to measure the plastic waste
hardness of mixed HDPE and PET type with teak tree sawdust
which melted into two portions by the amount of 18 gram. This
study finds the highest hardness index was achieved by the
mixture of 1.5 gram of sawdust, 5 gram PET and 11.5 gram
HDPE with the hardnesss point of 131. 3 N/mm under the 5000
gram pressure and temperature of 100°C while the lowest point of
86.6 N/mm by the mixture of 1 gram sawdust, 625 gram PET and
10.7 gram HDPE under the 5000 gram pressure and temperature
of 100°C. It can be seen that the lower the temperature of the
mixture compositions, the better the hardness because the
mixture is merged and binded better
الآيات الوارد ة فيها لفظ المصلح والخصم في القرآن الكريم (دراسة موضوعية) Verses about the words of muslih (reformer) and khasm (adversary) in the holy Quran (objective study)
The researcher will eagerly seek to tackle the psychological aspect of the reformer and preacher in
this contemporary era, which has been targeted by the international and regional conferences all over
the world; they pay all efforts they can to eradicate the features and values of this true religion, by
eliminating and abusing its bearers-- scholars and reforming preachers. The ultimate goal of sending
down these verses in the Book of Allah Almighty is to strengthen and entertain the heart of the
Prophet upon whom peace and prayers are, and his followers after him. The reformer in its
established meaning is anyone who seeks to spread goodness among the people. The reformers are
many types. Then, the researcher dealt with their impact on society. Reform mission is a form of
worshipping Allah in the perspective of the reformers, so they have good effects on society and the
entire universe. As corruption harms the land and destroys plants and generations. Therefore, the
reformer with his reformist approach is a cosmic necessity to preserve and reconstruct the land. After
that, we mentioned the difference between the good person and the reformer, and focused on this
difference because many of people are not aware to the subtle difference between “salah (goodness)”
and “islah (reform)”. Then, the researcher talked about the types of adversaries to the reformers and
divided them into external and internal adversaries. Then, he addressed the reasons for the imposition
of adversaries on the reformers, because Allah Almighty may allow dominance of the adversaries over
the reformers in particular and Muslims in general as a test and selection for them. The researcher
found that the types of reformers in the Holy Quran are three the best of which is good person whose
goodness has effect to amend people’s lives, unlike the good person who is desperate for his nation’s
situation, or the defaulted in obedience to Allah Almighty, and because of his failure between the
work of reform and the despair because of the Satan’s whispers and his disobedience
