Identifying key performance indicators for Manufacturing Industries Bumiputera Entrepreneurs (MIBE) in East Coast Malaysia
The Manufacturing Industries in Malaysia were the
fastest-growth industry over the past few years. In doing so,
involvement of Bumiputera Entrepreneurs in this area was
competitive. After the support gave from the government to the
entrepreneur, the government still doesn’t have any apparatus
for analyzing Manufacturing Industries Bumiputera
Entrepreneur (MIBE) performance. The development of the
MIBE performance index will give the government, agencies and
other stakeholders a clear picture of the success achieved so far,
the efficacy of strategies used, failures if any, areas that needed
to be polished, so as to achieve optimum utilization of resources
towards the entrepreneurship development. Similarly, the
government will be able to use this performance index in order to
have a stand on whether to continue with the support or make
necessary adjustments. However, there are limited published
studies on the evaluation of the sustainability performance of the
MIBE sector. Thus, this paper aims to formulate a list of key
performance index (KPI) for the MIBE. First, a literature study
on the Bumiputera Entrepreneur development carried out. This
study continued with study of KPI from various industries.
Finally, a set of KPI which can be used for measuring
performance index in MIBE was identified. These KPI was used
to design a question which will be distributed to some agencies to
strengthen the list of performance index
Student preferences and current usage in interior environment of the library: A case study at a Malaysian university
Recent trends in the design and renovation of libraries concentrate principally on the library as
place and as a social space, how do university students currently use the library? Do students primarily
use the library to gather and interact, or are they using it to learn as in the suggestive traditional role of the
library? How can students’ preferences for an ideal interior learning space be integrated into the design of
a library to better support a learning environment? A case study of the main library at a University Sultan
Zainal Abidin (UniSZA) was used to examine these research questions.
A student survey was used to engage users of the space and recognize how they use the library. The
analysis from this quantitative method approach was used to reveal how students use the study spaces in
the library and how the interior spaces of the university library can be designed to respond to student
behaviors and preferences.
Student survey results revealed that students value the library and use the library as a study space. The
most significant finding was that 82.28% of survey respondents stated the main reason they choose to
study at the library is for quiet study space. This finding is in opposition to the literature on the library as a
social space. While we are designing libraries to foster collaboration, we must also maintain the notion
that libraries should provide patrons with a welcoming and comfortable quiet study environment that
promotes prolonged use
Isolation and characterization of polyphenols in natural honey for the treatment of human diseases
Honey is a natural sweetener that is derived from the nectar, pollen, and resin of plants. It has been used as a folk
medicine for decades. In addition to being an excellent therapeutic agent, honey possesses an unusually high
nutritional content, thus generating interest among researchers. The major phytonutrients of honey are
polyphenols. Polyphenols can be separated using high-performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) or liquid
chromatography-mass spectrometry (LC-MS). Moreover, to separate the volatile compounds in honey, gas
chromatography-mass spectrometry (GC-MS) may be used. Polyphenols have unique and complex structures that
are mainly composed of flavonoids and phenolic acids, which confer significant antiviral, anti-inflammatory,
antineoplastic, and antiulcer effects and can be used to treat chronic diseases, such as cardiovascular disease. The
nature and variability of polyphenols in different honeys posed a challenge to investigations in previous years.
Nevertheless, the significant role of honey as a natural therapy and its enrichment with natural substances have led
to the continuous discovery of efficient, reliable, and rapid methods for the identification and quantification of
novel bioactive compounds in honey. This current review highlights the above mentioned issues
Overview of diabetes, management, and pharmacotherapy updates a review
Diabetes mellitus (DM) is disease of global concern. There were almost 4000 million diabetic people in 2013, and they
number is expected to be up to 592 million in the next two decades. DM causes various caridovascular complications. In
additiion to that, in some patients, it may lead to ocular damage, kidney diseases, nerve damage and many more
complications. This review highlighs the magnitude DM, its pathopysiotholgy and complications associated with
patients with DM. It also give a picture of how dietary management as well as physical activities can help in the
management of body gluecose. The paper highlights the pharmacological therapy of DM using different
pharmacological drug classes. In addition, it also highlights how fixed dose combination of antidiabetic medication
offer a means of simplifying dosing and timing schedules for number of medications, improve efficacy, lowers risk of
adverse effect and are cost effective. In conclusion this paper highlights how a collaborative effort of a diabetologists, a
dietician and a pharmacologist can have an effective management of DM in patients

The effect of capital structure on performance of insurance companies: Evidence from Jordan
The relationship between capital structure and profit cannot be ignored because the
improvement in profitability is essential for the company to continue its business. The objective
of the paper to examine the relationship between capital structures on the profitability of the
Jordanian insurance firms. A sample of 19 insurance firms listed on the Amman Stock Exchange
for a period of 10 years from 2008 – 2017 was selected. The regression analysis and
correlations are used to estimate the functions relating to profitability that measured by return
on equity (ROE) and Tobin's Q, with measures of capital structure: Short term debt (STD),
Long term debt (LTD) and Equity financing (TQ). Also, inflation rate and sales growth are used
as control variables. Empirical results show (STD) and (LTD) are positively correlated with
the (ROE) while negatively correlated with Tobin's Q, (ETQ is positive correlated with all
profitability measures, the result also shows that financial leverage is positively significant to
profitability. The results confirmed that an increase in leverage position is associated with an
increase in profitability
Conceptual review of organizational non-financial performance and successes
The Non-Financial Performance (NFP) is a set of indicators that helps an organization to
achieve its objectives through the administration activities or the employees’ work. This paper
scrutinizes NFP dimensions and how they help the organization to reach its objectives. The
foci are on productivity, employees’ satisfaction, workforce development, and innovation as
dimensions of NFP and their relation with organization success. NFP is directly related to the
managers, employees and work environment. It reflects the organization ability to achieve its
strategic objectives and prosperity i.e. to stay and adapt continuously, grow by responding to
internal environmental changes, adapting to the external environment continuously and
adapting to future events, which is an important factor for any effort to achieve organizational
performance. In other words, NFP is a general concept divided into multiple concepts which
need to be taken into account for the success of any organization
