A comparative study on the sensory acceptance and shelf life of ‘Nasi Dagang Terengganu’ prepared from modified rice recipes using various combinations of coconut, skim and evaporated milk

    No full text
‘Nasi Dagang’ is a signature Malaysian dish consisting of rice steamed in coconut milk, fish curry and extra ingredients such as pickled cucumber and carrots. It is a well-known breakfast food in the states on the East Coast of Peninsular Malaysia, southern Thai Malay provinces of Pattani, Yala and Narathiwat. Being a food preparation meant for immediate consumption, it naturally has short shelf life. Traditional preparations usually soak rice in fresh coconut milk with subsequent gelatinization facilitated via steaming process. As an objective to mitigate the adverse property of this food product, the scope of study undertaken focused on improvements of the formulation of the recipe using ultra-high temperature (UHT) coconut, skim and evaporated milk to replace the fresh coconut milk. In attempting to meet this objective of shelf life enhancement, modifications to the rice base utilized predetermined levels of various combinations of ultra-high temperature (UHT) coconut, skim, and evaporated milk to replace the fresh coconut milk. Sensory preference test and colour analysis were performed on resultant modified rice recipe samples. Subsequent evaluation of shelf stability quality of the rice samples were conducted on samples stored in room temperatures for three days and at chilled temperatures (4°C) for four weeks. The results showed that rice formulated with UHT coconut milk had the highest score for taste, texture, aroma, and overall acceptability, as compared to skim milk and evaporated milk. Shelf life evaluation indicated that rice stored at room temperatures (25°C) deteriorated due to increased presence of total bacteria count, which exceeded the safety level. Meanwhile at chilled temperatures, there was no evidence of microbial growth in the rice formulated with UHT coconut milk

The propose governance framework for shariah corporation

    No full text
Shariah Corporation has developed rapidly offering a various product and services that comply with the shariah principles. Nevertheless, all the so called shariah corporation was framed under conventional framework beginning from its incorporation as a company up until its corporate governance, and decision’s making process. Such conventional framework does differ from the shariah framework. Hence, it is a need to develop a new framework of governance that can be applied to all shariah corporations. This is mainly because the objective of the conventional and the Islamic Corporate governance is different as conventional corporate governance structure is more focused on the protection of the rights of the stakeholders; while Islamic corporate governance focus on retaining the Islamicity of whole corporation This paper emphasizes that Shari’ah compliance is the core element of shariah corporation and thus Shari’ah governance is an ideal platform to ensure such adherence and thus boost up the level of public confidence in shariah corporation. It is undeniably that, there are few shariah governance codes available nowadays, but, these codes are mainly referred to Islamic financial institution per se. This study looks at the current conventional framework and accordingly, this paper proposes a Shari’ah governance framework to accommodate the shariah corporation. The framework suggests incorporating various fundamental governance principles of organisations. This proposed framework is to strengthen the existing guidelines and reflect a holistic governance system for shariah corporation

Reasonable opportunity of being heard under article 135(2) of the federal constitution: A mist of obscurity

    No full text
Article 135(2) of the Federal Constitution provides a right to be heard to any public servants in case of dismissal or reduction in rank by adopting the term ‘reasonable opportunity of being heard’. Meanwhile, the Privy Council in Najar Singh’s case in 1976 established a principle that the right to be heard under Article 135(2) does not imply the right to be heard orally. Despite this precedent, the term remains contentious in the courts of law as to whether the term includes the right to oral hearing. Recently, in 2018 the Federal Court in Vijayaroa’s case inclines in favour of affording a right to be heard orally to an officer facing disciplinary proceedings. This article examined the scope of the term ‘reasonable opportunity of being heard' under Article 135(2) and analysed the development of the cases law on the right to an oral hearing in disciplinary proceedings against public servants. The finding shows that the statutory term ‘reasonable opportunity of being heard’ has been interpreted inconsistently by the courts. Thus, the law on this issue remains unsettled

This is because this approach ia a based on Islamic teachings which has been implemented by the Messenger Muhammad Pbuh

Severe dengue with acute abdomen- A diagnosis dilemma

    No full text
Dengue is an emerging mosquito-borne viral infection transmitted between humans by Aedes spp. The rapid growth of dengue cases globally created a public health challenge in managing it. Since the dengue is a viral disease, a patient usually presented with non- specific clinical features with no definite drug or vaccine proven to treat it. Hence, a simple diagnostic tool for the early phase of the illness, early supportive treatment and efficient vector control measures are the essential elements in a holistic approach to managing a dengue infection. However, with a non-specific presentation of the disease and high variability of rapid diagnostic test sensitivity and specificity, the diagnosis is more challenging. The failure of detecting dengue infection, especially the severe variety may lead to a grave consequence. This case illustrates how a non- specific presentation with false negative diagnostic test result leads to unnecessary surgical intervention in a severe dengue patient

    No full text
In this regard, this paper aims to interior design analysis of Terengganu traditional Malay houses (TTMH). Then, the paper employs a quantitative approach by creating a new survey questionnaire that can be used as a broad model and new instrument to help collect data about the design elements and the factors that influence the choice of TTMH. Furthermore, this paper method consists of distribution the questionnaire among 384 citizens of Terengganu, and the data were analyzed using Statistical Package for Social Sciences (SPSS). In this respect, the results of the study showed a correlation among factors of the interior design of TTMH, which proves that when we want to maintain them, there must be a correlation among these factors and not lose any part of TTMH which may lead to the loss of more houses. In conclusion, this research has established an “interior design elements of Conservation for the TTMH,” these elements will be successful if correctly executed in addition to the current level of protection at either national, state, local, or district level. Finally, further studies can integrate to a more comprehensive, informative and extensive framework

This study evaluated the effect of Mega Floral Booster (MFB) as probiotic supplement on the quality properties such as the carcass yield, physicochemical properties and nutritional composition of quail meat. Mega flora booster is the multi- probiotic animal feed additive. The treatment is divided to four treatments based on percentage of MFB include MFB-0.00 (control), MFB-0.05 (0.05% of MFB), MFB-0.20 (0.20% of MFB) and MFB-0.35 (0.35% of MFB). The 18 of quail species Cortunix japonica (Japanese quail) used as the main material in the study for each treatment. For the first until fourteen days, the quails are supplied with commercial feed only. After fifteen days, the quails begin provided with the MFB-0.00, MFB-0.05, MFB-0.20 and MFB-0.35 mixed with commercial feed. The quails for 42nd days slaughtered and deboned of breast and whole leg separated from the bone for analysis. Probiotic supplement (Mega Floral Booster) had no influence on proximate and amino acid composition. Chemical score and amino acid score was show tryptophan as amino acid limited. Essential Amino Acid index of breast meats presented MFB-0.20 (61.66%) higher than MFB-0.00 (60.26%). Thus, Mega Floral Booster is not affecting the nutritional quality of quail meats

    No full text
Structural properties of 30B2O3-(59-x)TeO2-10MgO-xEu2O3-1Mn3O4 glass are prepared via melt quenching method. The glass samples are characterized by X-ray Diffraction (XRD), Fourier Transform Infrared (FTIR) Spectroscopy and Electron Spin Resonance (ESR) Spectroscopy. The glass nature is confirmed by XRD pattern. FTIR spectra display a shift in vibrational modes of TeO4 and TeO3 units thus indicate an alteration in the glass network structure due to an incorporation of Eu2O3. Influence which varies Eu2O3 concentrations on the structural due to the nature of spin-spin interaction are determined. Both g value and resonance magnetic field (Hr) are found to be in the range of (189-198) and (211-226) Oe respectively. The obtained g value of glass samples will modify the structural of europium doped magnesium borotellurite glass due to this presence of manganese oxide nanoparticles (Mn3O4 NPs) which may be useful for developing efficient photonic devices
