UniSZA as a National Centre of Design for Disability in Malaysia

    No full text
This paper explains the initial steps of establishing the national centre of design for disabled people in Malaysia. As we all know, there is still no evidence of the existence of a creative centre for industrial product design in the country, especially for this special group. Through the initiative from the School of Industrial Design located in Universiti Sultan Zainal Abidin (UniSZA), we take a commitment to channel societal significances through designing, developing and producing innovative product design for various categories of disabilities in this country, such as physically disability, mentally disability, vision impair, learning disability, speech disability and others. It will be done entirely in a\ud centre known as National Centre of Design for Disability (CDD), which highlights the standards and quality of design, where the outcomes meet the satisfaction of the end users through its function, ergonomics, safety, comfort and aesthetics for them to not ashamed to join their routine activities in the open public environment. The CDD improves to enhance the existing equipment alongside providing advice and assistance for the state-of-the-art research outcomes

Kitab Ma’ani Al-Qira’at (meanings of the modes of recitations) by Al-Azhari encompasses a valuable scientific content on the guidance of the modes of recitation. It is considered one of the earliest books written on the guidance on the modes of recitation. Having inducted this book, the researcher concluded that Al-Azhari had followed many methods on the guidance of the modes of recitation, and his approach needs to be studied and clarified. As is well known, each author has his or her own approach, Given this point of departure, the author has conducted this research for the purpose of exploring Al-Azhari’s approach on the guidance of the modes of recitation, and showing the features and tools utilised for that purpose in terms of guiding the modes of recitation by the Holy Quran, the Prophet’s Hadith, othmanic text/ Ottoman lettering, verse etc. The author has followed the analytical inductive approach, where he has inducted Kitab Ma’ani Al-Qira’at (the meanings of the modes of recitation book) finding out the guidance features and tools employed by Al-Azhari for that purpose. This study found out many results: Al-Imam Al-Zuhri did not rely heavily on both the Prophet’s Hadith and Othmanic text /Al-Rasim Al Othmani / Ottoman lettering). He also ignored guiding the successive modes of recitation by the shadhdh ones (without a successive transmission). However, he relied heavily on verse and Arabs sayings and dialects. This study also concluded that Ma’ani Al-Qira’at by Al-Azhari has a considerable scientific value, but it needs refinement and editing because it contains some of weak viewpoints which dispute the validity of some modes of recitation without reacting to them/ with impunity

Antarctica’s sovereignty: Adoption of arctic council concept as a better replacement for Antarctica Treaty System (ATS)

    No full text
The conflict surrounding the sovereignty over the region of Antarctica is a longstanding issue that has plagued the claimant states for decades. The exhaustion of mineral and raw material fuels the hostility and struggle for dominance over the unclaimed region which beliefs to be the largest remaining reserve of oil and gas as well as other valuable natural resources. With growing number of claimant states and the inexistence of proper international framework, the issues over Antarctica is a time-ticking bomb waiting to burst and causes a major friction over the South Pole. The success achieved by Arctic Council in managing the Arctic region inspires this paper to propose and evaluate the idea of establishing an “Antarctica Council” as a crucial recourse to solve what Antarctica Treaty System (ATS) has failed to achieve. This paper is an examination of analysis and critiques in legal documents and international reports that seek a critical approach over the ineffectiveness of existing legal framework and possible improvement in Arctic council concept adoptions

The Buginese and Madurese are well known as fierce sailors and are openhearted ethnics in Indonesia. It seems that they have their typical characters and identities compared to the other ethnics in Indonesia. Their characters and identities become part of their life, including in economic, social customs or even when they immigrated to a new place. This phenomenology study tried to explain the behavior of Buginese and the people of Madurese who immigrated to Papua. The study also would seek to explore beyond migration of the Bugis and Madurese in Papua. This article was conducted in Papua to assess the patterns of migration and community interaction of Bugis and Madurese with other communities. The study findings revealed that Buginese and Madurese seem similar among others in terms of economic activity, mastery in the field of politics, and social role in the community. Besides, with their capacity, it has a role in religious activities which they always carry out in their environment. By not making it as a mission of deployment religious activities, but rather only to defend their religious understanding in a way that it would be limited just to the internal environment. It seems both the Buginese and Madurese firmly have a connection to the Islamic identity factors that are part of their religious expression

Spirituality: A way to realize sustainable tourism

    No full text
When deliberating on the spiritual dimension of tourism, one key question is that how individuals are seeking for their life meaning and experiences of divine existence, as well as their connectedness as subjectively lived during their travel. In fact, tourism is closely connected to religion which has always been a powerful travel motivation from the time of early pilgrimages to contemporary journeys to sacred places. Religious sites, rituals, festivals and ceremonies are considered important attractions for both religious followers with special systems of belief and tourists with a casual interest. Perhaps, this characteristic of the tourism experience is the main reason for spiritual tourism experiences being recently popular among individuals who have started engaging in spirituality-driven experiences and among persons aiming to develop their continuing sublime engagement by means of travel. There are various reasons for travelling for spiritual growth which is opposed to the traditional notions of pilgrimage and religious tourism. However, relatively few scholars have explored the multitudinous relationships between religion, spirituality, and sustainable tourism, despite the pervasiveness of religious tourism and spiritual connections to place. A subject that has received only scant attention in the literature is the negative social and ecological impacts of religious (mass) tourism. Several authors have noted the negative impacts of religious tourism on the commercialization of places and artifacts that were once held as sacred locations. The commodification of religious symbols and the economic implications of selling them should become of increased interest to researchers as the world becomes more consumption-oriented

The current study aims to trace and analyze statistical thinking frameworks of various types in terms of their origin, types, dimensions, tasks, skills focused on them, hierarchy and sequence of levels, their theoretical and educational reference, The use of technology in its construction and the possibility of integration between all different statistical thinking frameworks or the construction of new frameworks. It relied on the inductive method in the survey of literature, studies and scientific reports that monitored the frameworks of statistical thinking. It also adopted the descriptive approach in analyzing and concluding the relationship between different statistical thinking frameworks Comparing and categorizing them , The most important results of the study that emerged from the frameworks of statistical thinking is different from the educational, statistical or commercial, etc., and most of the frameworks are one-dimensional and a few of them are two-dimensional, and the majority focused on the use of practical issues or tasks to reveal the levels of statistical thinking of learners, Computational thinking within the framework of statistical thinking, he study concluded several conclusions and recommendations. The most prominent of these was that the recent statistical thinking frameworks did not receive such global attention, despite their importance. However, the study recommended the need to increase attention to the frameworks of statistical thinking by developing them and to find a mechanism for integration among them or to build new statistical thinking frameworks
