Morphometric Characterization of Donkeys (Equus asinus) in D/Kudu Kano State For Selective Breedingand Genetic Conservation

    No full text
Donkeys (Equus asinus) is a domestic livestock animal and popular in helping farming activities and providing food for some societies. Population of donkeys were drastically decreasing due to the overexploitation for its hides and industrialization. Little is known regarding the morphometric measurements of this species which provide a useful information for selective breeding and genetic conservation. One hundred and forty-four male donkeys from D/Kudu Kano state where enrolled in this study for morphometric characterisation. Seven morphological parameters were analysed in association with age and coat colour of donkeys observed. Descriptive statistical analysis, analysis of variance (ANOVA) as well as correlation coefficient among parameters were evaluated. Result revealed that donkeys in the studied area were categorised into 7 different coat colour with light grey (30.6%) being the dominant colour. High frequency distribution of donkeys between the ages of 5-7 years (41%) were recorded. Also, both age and coat colour showed a significant (P <0.01) difference on face length, ear length, chest circumference and body length. Significant and positive correlation (r = 0.43–0.91) is observed in all morphological traits except relationship for tail length which is negatively correlated. In conclusion, the morphological features analysed in this study can be regarded as a preliminary for further studies on the Kano donkey breed

Background: Breast cancer is the most common cancer in women and is a leading cause of cancerrelated mortality. The SOX2, having the ability of cancer stem cell self-renewal is responsible for the development of breast cancer. Objective: This study aimed to determine the frequency and gene expression pattern of SOX2 and its association with clinicopathological factors in invasive breast cancer in East Coast Malaysian women. Material and methods: The SOX2 expression was evaluated by immunohistochemistry on 100 samples of histologically diagnosed cases of invasive breast carcinomas, with known ER, PR and HER2 status, retrieved over 4 years period from January 2012 to December 2015. Positive samples were subjected to fluorescent in-situ hybridisation to determine the gene expression pattern. Result: The SOX2 expression was detected in 6% of invasive breast carcinomas, and all these cases were due to gene amplification. There was a significant positive correlation with tumour recurrence (P<0.001), large tumour size (P<0.001), lymphovascular invasion (P=0.006) and lymph node metastasis (P<0.01). The SOX2 expression was not correlated with age group (P = 0.078), tumour grade (P = 0.465), ER positivity (P = 0.578), PR positivity (P = 0.578) or HER2 overexpression (P = 0.541). Conclusion: The SOX2 expression has a potential to be used as a prognostic marker in breast cancer in which the expression indicates potential for early recurrence and aggressive tumour behaviour. The SOX2 may also be considered as a target for immunotherapy to personalise the therapeutic strategies especially in preventing tumour recurrent

Investment in transport infrastructure is one of the important actions to accelerate regional development because it will open access among regions. Thus, it can lead to accelerate economic growth. This study aims to analyze the short-run and long-run relationship between economic growth and air transportation in ASEAN-10 countries. The data used in this study are the number of air transport passengers, air transport carrier, air freights, interactions between passengers and air transport carrier, and gross domestic product growth sourced from World Bank in a year period of 2002-2017. Panel ARDL is used in this analysis. Based on the specification, estimation, and examination of the model, the Panel ARDL is the best choice model. The Panel ARDL model shows that in the short term there is no significant relationship between air transportation and economic growth, but in the long term explains, except air freight, that air transport passengers, air transport airline, and the interaction between passengers have a significant effect on ASEAN-10 economic growth. This study emphasizes that to increase economic growth, increase in air transportation services is an important factor

Ensuring the quality of E-Learning in the field of higher education requires in the first place an institutional vision accompanied by commitment, leadership, and proper planning, while ensuring that this is available to the partners. The E-Learning policy should conform to the overall vision of the institution and the tasks and services they provide. Leaders and managers must be able to explain the reasons for choosing E-Learning as an appropriate learning strategy for the students who serve them. Online education components should include the quality components that were identified in the first part of this post. Additionally, organizations need to comply with the regulations governing online learning and ensure that they are reflected in policies and practices. This research also seeks to establish the rules and foundations of specialized education in the field of teaching Arabic to non-native speakers, and link them to Quran. There is no doubt that all scientific institutions aim to ensure the quality of the application of their academic standards that set them to achieve what they want in the field of raising the level of targeted scientific seekers. Therefore, this paper raises a fundamental research problem, namely, ways to ensure scientific quality. This paper referred to a number of questions, including: What are the standards? What does quality mean in the preparation of language teaching plans and Quranic sciences? And how to find academic content that combines between Arabic and Quranic sciences? What possibilities are there to ensure that learners are improved through quality standards? This paper discusses the concept of educational quality and its role in achieving the objectives of the educational process, addressing the role of scientific standards in the field of the preparation of study plans, indicating the possibilities that must be available to help in the success of the implementation of study plans prepared to teach Arabic and Quranic sciences, taking the descriptive analytical approach. Thus, this paper added a new dimension to the studies that preceded it in this area, where it is to indicate the criteria required to achieve the objectives set by linking the teaching of Arabic language with the science of the Quran. The paper recommends further studies on ensuring that quality standards are applied in the educational process
