In-patient’s satisfaction in the medical and surgical wards - A comparison between accreditted and non accreditated hospital in the state of Selangor
Background : Two of the most common indicators of institutional healthcare quality are Hospital Accreditation Status and Patient Satisfaction. However, the relationship between them is not well understood. In Malaysia, only 20.48% hospitals have been accredited. This is very much less compared to hospitals in America, Europe, Australia and certain Asian countries whereby 90% of their hospitals have already been accredited.
Objective : The objective of this study was to compare the extent to which a patient’s satisfaction is related to hospital accreditation status, to examine the relationship
between patient satisfaction and hospital work load and to determine factors that influence patients’ satisfaction.
Methodology : A cross-sectional study was conducted whereby 150 patients from each accredited and non-accredited hospital involved in this study group giving a total of 300
samples. `SERVQUAL’ instrument was used in this study. Patients were interviewed at 2 different times - during admission and upon discharge.
Result : Results showed 34.7% patients were satisfied with services in accredited hospital and 30.6% patients were satisfied with services in non-accredited hospital.
`Corporate Culture’ component showed the lowest satisfaction score among the entire dimension in both categories hospitals. Patient satisfaction was noted to be
reduced with increase in hospital work load. Other factors which significantly influence patient satisfaction include level of education, employment status and patient income. There was no significant difference in patient satisfaction between accredited and non-accredited hospital in all dimension measured.
Conclusion : Therefore there is no difference of patients’ satisfaction with regards to services provided by accredited and non-accredited hospitals
Teachers’ perception on the causes for cheating among primary school children in Misurata, Libya
The aim of this study is to identify teachers’ perception on the most important causes for cheating among primary school children; and to study whether there is a significant difference between the variables: gender, educational qualifications and years of experience. The sample size is 174 teachers. The questionnaire employed in this study consists of 19 items categorized into three causes related to family, school and media. The study found that the most important causes related to: family, is the lack of familial guidance and counseling; school, is the absence of disciplinary actions for those who cheat; and media, is the absence of programmes on guidance and counseling. Meanwhile, the statistical data related to media show that there are significant differences by gender in favour of females. Causes related to family show significant differences in academic background. Findings also show significant statistical differences on family’s education background which contributed to cheating. There was also no significant difference for years of experience. This study recommends: the importance of educating families to play its role in preparing children to sit for examination, and reducing the anxiety among students caused by test performance in tests; and encouraging teachers to carry out disciplinary acts towards students who cheat. Failure to carry out these actions would further encourage the phenomenon of students cheating. In addition, the media should broadcast programmes on guidance and counseling. Religious seminars should also be carried out to explain the risks of cheating, reasons why cheating is not permissible, and explaining the values, educational commitment, morale and basic rules in their daily lives. These actions are to achieve excellence in students’ educational performance and activities
Spiritual education development model
Developing and producing a holistic individual has been a major concern to Malaysian education system. Therefore, Malaysia education system was formed based on its mission to produce a balance and a holistic individual from physical, emotion, spiritual and intellectual potential based on a firm belief in and devotion to God. However, there was a gap between the current practice in education and the Malaysia’s education philosophy especially in the spiritual development domain. Meanwhile, self development from spiritual potential is the basic needs of every human being because it motivates good human behaviour and how they respond to the environment. Since, man is a combination of the soul and the body, man also carries dual tendencies which are tendencies to become good (motivate by the rational soul) and bad (motivate by the animal soul). Therefore, spiritual development process is about a continuous exercise of sub-ordination the animal soul to enslave itself in submission to the power of the rational soul. Therefore, the purpose of this study is to explore the philosophy behind self-development from spiritual domain and develop the conceptual model for spiritual development process
Analisis tren pemanasan global dan kesannya terhadap aspek dayahuni bandar di Malaysia (The impact of global warming trends on urban livability in Malaysia: an analysis)
The teaching and learning of foreign languages aim to achieve numerous outcomes; among them is to enable students to communicate. Attitude and psychological factors form barriers in the success of foreign language communication skills among students. Previous studies of how attitude affects foreign language learning have been carried out by UiTM Terengganu as Arabic, Mandarin, and French are among foreign language courses offered in UiTM (Higher Learning Institutions) HLI. A meta-analysis of the findings is presented; highlighting several challenges and solutions which may be employed by foreign languages instructiors at school and HLI. In an effort to motivate the teaching and learning of foreign languages, a few practicable suggestions are given in view of the challenge that English language as ‘threatening’ language diversity need
Persepsi khalayak terhadap kredibiliti media di Malaysia
This article analyses the credibility component of news in newspapers, television and online. This
study intends to seek public’s perception on news credibility in newspaper, television and Internet.
Survey method on 100 respondents in Klang Valley were carried out in 2009 to assess newspaper
news credibility, television and online by using news credibility scale as proposed by Gaziano and
McGrath (1986) namely trust, currency, bias, fair, complete, objective, honest, latest,
believe/confident, balanced, accuracy and on time. The finding shows that news credibility in
newspaper and television have similarity but not for news credibility on Interne
Fasal pengecualian liabiliti dalam kontrak pengguna di Malaysia
Consumerism loaded with paternalistic ideals of protecting customers is by all means a paradigm shift from the so-called freedom of contract ideology. The aim of consumerism is to regulate and intervene in the market in their noble cause of upholding and empowering consumers in trade. Nevertheless in the area of exclusion of trader’s liability in consumer contracts, the move towards upholding consumer rights has been very minimal. Absence of appropriate legal mechanism in the form of a specific legislation to curb the use of unfair terms in consumer contracts has lead to oppression of consumers and the spread of unethical conduct of traders. In Malaysia however, the legal development in the area of exemption clauses in consumer contracts appears to be minimal. In the area of exemption of liability in Malaysia, by virtue of section 3 and 5 of the Civil Law Act 1956, the common law principles have been applied. However the case law development in Malaysia on exemption of liability, especially when the parties are of unequal bargaining power, causes a serious concern in consumer protection. This article explores the status of exemption clauses within the theoretical corpus of contract . It then examines the extent of the legal treatment on exemption clauses in consumer contracts as illustrated in reported case
Lakuna dalam pemakaian dalihan ketidakmatangan menurut undang-undang jenayah di Malaysia
The Malaysian law has provided a specific defence to a child offender within the ages of ten to twelve. Nevertheless, the accused child must prove that at the time of committing the crime, he or she has not attained sufficient maturity of understanding to judge the nature and consequence of the act. How is ‘immaturity’ defined by the courts and how do the courts apply this particular defence to exempt the child from his or her criminal liability? These questions are highlighted in this article and it is submitted that the Malaysian courts have never interpreted ‘ immaturity’ in the provision of section 83 of the Malaysian Penal Code, which subsequently leads to the finding that its application is vague and ambiguou
Inclusion properties for certain subclasses of analytic functions associated with a multiplier transformation
Let f be the normalised analytic function in the open unit disk U. In the present paper, we define a new operator related to generalised Hurwitz–Lerch zeta function which involved the convolution (Hadamard product). Via this operator, we introduce new classes of functions and
derive some interesting properties for these classe

Bearing capacity of the subgrade layers has significant influence on the performance of the overall pavement structure. In this study, the Spectral Analysis of Surface Wave (SASW) method was used for assessing the stiffness of pavement subgrade layer. The SASW method employed was based on the Rayleigh-wave propagation. Using the phase difference data of Rayleigh waves, the experimental dispersion curve of phase velocity was obtained. Consequently, inversion process was conducted to obtain the shear wave velocity and the dynamic modulus of the pavement structure. The results showed that some empirical models of the shear wave velocity and the dyamic elastic modulus versus soil bearing capacity of the California bearing ratio (CBR) and dynamic cone penetrometer (DCP) were derived. Good agreement was also found between these empirical models compared to that of previous studie
