Problems and properties of a new differential operator

    No full text
In this paper, we introduce and study a new differential operator defined in the open unit disc U={z:z€C^lzl<1}Using this operator, we then introduce a new subclass of analytic functions Gn(μ,λ,α,β,b). Moreover, we discuss coefficient estimates, growth and distortion theorems and inclusion properties for the functions belonging to the classGn (μ,λ,α,β,b)

Non-local boundary value problem with integral conditions for a second order hyperbolic equation

    No full text
In this paper, the classic solution of one-dimensional boundary value problem for a hyperbolic equation with non-classic boundary conditions is investigated. For that, the stated problem is reduced to the not-self-adjoint boundary value problem with equivalent boundary condition. Then, using the method of separation of variables, by means of the known spectral problem the given not self-adjoint boundary value problem is reduced to an integral equation. The existence and uniqueness of the integral equation are proved by means of the contraction mappings principle and it is shown that this solution is unique for a not-adjoint boundary value problem. Finally, using the equivalence, the theorem on the existence and uniqueness of a non-local boundary value problem with integral condition is proved

The Tekala forest reserve: a study on surface wash and runoff using close system erosion plots

    No full text
This study on surface wash and runoff using closed system erosion plots was carried out in Tekala Forest Reserve Hulu Langat Selangor. Variations in the rates of surface wash and runoff were analysed with reference to soil characteristics of the site and 14 rainfall parameters. The results showed that the rate of surface wash ranged from 67.49 to 233.77 gm-2 yr-1 with an average of 101.7 gm-2 yr-1. The average rate of total surface runoff ranged from 121.9 lm-2 yr-1 to 290.8 lm-2yr-1 with an average of 194.43 lm-2yr-1. The results also showed that surface wash was positively and significantly correlated with all the rainfall parameters, the amount of rainfall being the best index. A significant and positive correlation was also found between the amount of surface wash and the amount of surface runoff in the study area

Detection of volatile organic compound gas using localized surface plasmon resonance of gold nanoparticles

    No full text
This paper reports on the detection of several organic vapors using the unique characteristic of localized surface plasmon resonance (LSPR) gold nanoparticles. Gold nanoparticles on quartz substrate were prepared using seed mediated growth method. In a typical process, gold nanoparticles with average size ca. 36 nm were obtained to densely grown on the substrate. Detection of gas was based on the change in the LSPR of the gold nanoparticles film upon the exposure to the gas sample. It was found that gold nanoparticles were sensitive to the presence of volatile organic compound (VOC) gas from the change in the surface plasmon resonance (SPR) intensity. The mechanism for the detection of VOC’s gas will be discusse

Representation Of Nojoud's 'Early' Marriage: A CDA Of Online English-Language Yemeni Newspapers

    No full text
Online English-language newspapers in Yemen are considered official windows through which Yemen is portrayed to the global world. Investigating the representation of a Yemeni social event (the Nojoud’s phenomenon) to foreign readers, this paper specifically aims to identify the discourses that the newspaper texts draw upon in representing ‘early marriage’ in Yemen. Besides, it investigates the assumptions that the texts presuppose and the way the social actors are identified. As a qualitative analytic research, Fairclough’s critical discourse analysis as well as Kress and van Leeuwen’s (critical) multimodal discourse analysis employed the micro and macro discourse analysis of the online version of Yemen Times newspaper. Data analysis reveals that the selected texts draw upon a number of foregrounded and backgrounded discourses in representing ‘early marriage’ in Yemen including backgrounded Yemeni legal discourse, backgrounded Sharia discourse of ‘maturity’, and fore grounded discourse of minimum age of 18, and fore grounded discourse of sexual abuse. Simultaneously, it is uncovered that the texts presuppose many assumptions such as ‘marriage in Islam’, ‘puberty’ and the ‘age documentation’ in Yemen. While some of the important social actors are absent, the main social actors in the represented case are mainly identified by ‘overwordings’ of the age. This paper ends by offering several suggestions and recommendations that would benefit EFL (Yemeni) students, teachers, curriculum designers, journalists and translators when dealing with English-language texts reporting on local phenomenon

Analisis berasaskan korpus dalam menstruktur semula kedudukan makna teras leksikal setia

    No full text

Winner's curse and bandwagon effect in Malaysian IPOs: evidence from 2001-2009

    No full text
This papaer examines the winner's curse hypothesis and the bandwagon effect in initial public offerings (IPOS), using malaysian IPO data from January 2001 to December 2009. The average initial return (offer-to-close) for the 160 Malaysian private placement IPOS is 18.51 percent as opposed to the average initial return (offer-to-lose) of 28.84 percent for the 210 non-private placement IPOS, which gives support to the winner's curse hypothesis , where uninformed investors (using private placement IPOS as the proxy) demand a higher initial return in the absense of informed investors (using private placement IPOS as the proxy). The study also finds that the present of a large number of informed investors in an IPO exercise, as compared to uninformed investors, brings with it an increased interest, or the bandwagon effect, in that particular stock, which results in higher initial return
