Corrosion protection of carbon steel using polyaniline composite with inorganic pigments

    No full text
Two inorganic pigments (TiO2 and SiO2) were used to prepare composites with polyaniline (PANI) by situ polymerization method. PANI and PANI composites with SiO2 and TiO2 were characterized using Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy and X-ray diffraction. The morphology of the synthesized pigments (PANI , PANI-SiO2 and PANI-TiO2) was examined using scanning electron microscopy. Samples were then used as pigments through blending them with acrylic paint and applied on the surface of carbon steel panels. Corrosion was evaluated for coating of carbon steel panels through full immersion test up to standard ASTMG 31. Mass loss was calculated after they have been exposed in acidic media. A digital camera was also used for monitoring corrosion visually on the surface of carbon steel specimens. The results revealed that acrylic paint pigmented by PANI-SiO2 composite was more efficient in corrosion protection for carbon steel compared with the other synthesized pigment

Synthesis of dichlorprop-Zn/Al-hydrotalcite nanohybrid and its controlled release property

New phase-pure nanohybrids of dichlorprop[2(2,4-dichlorophenoxy)propionate]-intercalated Zn/Al-LDH were successfully prepared using either co-precipitation or ion exchange methods. The basal spacing expansion from 8.9 Å in the layered double hydroxide (LDH) to 18.7 and 21.7 Å of the nanohybrids was observed. This together with FTIR, DTG/TGA and compositional studies show that dichlorprop was successfully intercalated into the Zn/Al-layered double hydroxides interlayer. Release study of dichlorprop showed that it is dependent on the concentration of the incoming ionic species and governed by the pseudo-second order kinetic. This study suggests that the layered double hydroxide might be used as a matrix for controlled release formulation for a herbicide, dichlorprop and the release of the herbicide can be tuned using parameters such as method of synthesis and the concentration of the incoming ionic species to be ion exchange with. This is towards new generation of agrochemicals which are safer as well as user- and environmentally-friendly

Changes in coal mining society in contemporary West Bengal, India

The Government of India has, in recent years, taken multiple steps to encourage private sector participation, adopt a more holistic approach towards expanding its coal base, and improve efficiency in the sector as a whole. However, the existing regulatory framework in India is not adequately developed or in tune with international standards that the extractive industries sector have been putting together. It is thus crucial for the Indian coal industry to consider changes in its regulatory environment to make it a par with the international standards to meet the critical requirement for energy security. In fact coal mining society is passing though havoc changes due to Government’s newly introduced multifold policies. The industrial relation now has changed immensely than the previous practices. Coal industry, which contributes 67 percent of total energy requirements of our country. After two phases nationalization the industry witnessed certain developments, which have implications for the human recourses management and industrial relation. In the beginning of the 90s one important event was the introduction of the new economic policy and this has a great influence over the coal mine sector. Impact of the policy Change is the introduction of a number of private operators in the coal production. Broadly, new economic policy initiated the gradual withdrawal of state from the control of basic industry and infrastructure. Coal mines are no exception in this regard. So the effect of new economic policy in the consequence of globalization also falls on the coal sectors. We now see what sort of impact of policy change has taken place upon the coal sector and coal workers. This article tires to examine the changes taken place due to policy changes and changes in general outlook of the people of coal mines in which they live. Now the industrial relation as well as the mechanism of work has been changed drastically. The traditional practice of work and mental outlook is gradually replacing with global method. It was noticed that people associated in this industry has started accepting the wider scope of work culture

Improved sufficient conditions for monotonic piecewise rational quartic interpolation

    No full text
In 2004, Wang and Tan described a rational Bernstein-Bézier curve interpolation scheme using a quartic numerator and linear denominator. The scheme has a unique representation, with parameters that can be used either to change the shape of the curve or to increase its smoothness. Sufficient conditions are derived by Wang and Tan for preserving monotonicity, and for achieving either C1 or C2 continuity. In this paper, improved sufficient conditions are given and some numerical results presented
