    MAGA Ideology and Propaganda

    This paper panel will explore propaganda of the MAGA movement through analysis of artifacts related to MAGA ideology. The papers are authored by three graduate students from the Communication, Media and Performance program. The first paper will explore a tweet from President Trump regarding the meeting with President Zelensky of Ukraine and the depiction of the nature of our relationship with this country. The second paper will explore the strategic use of MAGA hats. The third paper presents an analysis of the slogan, Let\u27s Go Brandon. Each paper sheds light on the use of symbols and rhetoric to propagate white supremacy/racism and authoritarianism characteristic of the MAGA movement

    Temporal-spatial changes in water quality refer to how the composition and characteristics of water bodies (like rivers, lakes, and oceans) vary over time and across different locations.Water quality is a complex and dynamic characteristic that can vary significantly within a given water body. The physical and complex properties of the water are complex which are spatial variations in water quality parameters, such as salinity, conductivity, TDS, temperature, and pH, are influenced by a multitude of factors. The main purpose of the project was to investigate the spatial variations in salinity, conductivity, TDS, temperature, and pH of the water in the Governors State University pond and identify factors influencing these variations. There will be significant spatial variations in water quality parameters within the pond due to factors such as depth, proximity to shoreline, and influence of stormwater runoff.The water quality near the shoreline will differ from the water quality from the other parts of the pond due to differences in the temperature, place and microorganisms. Seasonal variations will affect water quality parameters, particularly temperature and pH. Main objectives of the project includes to collect water samples from various locations within the pond at different depths. To compare the measured values to established water quality standards.To assess the potential impacts of spatial variations on aquatic ecosystems. After the experiment, results came out that the conductivity of the water can be affected by the presence of inorganic dissolved solids such as chloride or sulfate. Organic compounds like oil do not conduct electrical current well and results in low conductivity. Conductivity can also be affected by temperature. Warm water have a higher conductivity. Also, conductivity increases as salinity increases

    The Relationship Between Migraines and The Gut-Brain Axis from the Physical Therapy Scope: A Scoping Review

    This scoping review sought to answer two major questions: what role does the gut-brain axis play in migraines, and what is the scope of physical therapy in addressing these issues. The methodological process of this scoping review followed the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses Extension for Scoping Reviews (PRISMA-ScR) checklist. Databases utilized in this review include PubMed, Physical Therapy and Rehabilitation Journal, EBSCO, Google Scholar, and EBSCO Cinahl Complete, Elsevier, Cumulative Index of Nursing and Allied Health, American Psychological Association, SPORTDiscus, ProQuest: Dissertation Abstracts International, Cochran Collaboration, PEDro, OT Seeker, American Speech-Language-Hearing Association, American Physical Therapy Association, The Web of Science, and Stanford University: Highwire Press. There were a total of 61 articles included in the final analysis using the inclusion criteria of peer reviewed, academic journals, published within the last 10 years, and English only, and all subjects within the studies to be 18 years or older. The results showed migraines are closely tied to overall systemic health, reflecting a complex connection between the nervous system and other bodily systems, particularly the gut-brain axis. To support patients in managing their migraines, clinicians should focus on personalized care that involves collaboration, shared decision-making, and practical problem-solving. This approach can help improve self-management skills and enhance quality of life. ¹⁸ Diet and nutrition has been seen to affect the relationship between the gut-brain axis and migraine intensity, frequency, and duration meaning that it can be used as a variable in the treatment of migraine. Along with diet, the relationship between exercise and migraine is multifaceted, with evidence supporting both its prophylactic potential and its role as a possible trigger. Regular physical activity, particularly aerobic exercise, appears to reduce migraine frequency, intensity, and duration while improving quality of life and addressing comorbid conditions such as obesity, hypertension, and psychiatric disorders. ⁴³,⁴⁹. Diet and exercise can play a vital role in the development of migraine and therefore since there is a scope of nutrition under physical therapy practice guidelines, physical therapists should be implementing nutrition screening and generalized advice along with looking for opportunities to refer to collogues within the diet and nutrition realm to encourage interprofessional care and truly model a multimodal experience for all patients

    Attitudes Toward the Use of AI in Student Assessment

    Several studies have been conducted across various academic disciplines to explore the use and effectiveness of generative AI. Scholars have found significant support for AI-based tools in higher education, leading to their integration to enhance student learning outcomes. However, there has been limited exploration of how AI-based tools can be utilized to assess student performance and offer feedback. This study aims to fill this gap by utilizing behavioral approaches to investigate public perceptions regarding using AI-based tools to assess student performance and provide feedback. Additionally, it will assess public perceptions of AI\u27s potential to mitigate human bias in student assessment, a promising aspect of AI in education. The study also aims to understand preferences for human and/or AI-based tools in training learners on specific topics such as leadership, empathy, and human connection. The study aims to understand the essential attributes of AI-based assessment and performance evaluation approaches among college students. With the increasing integration of AI-based tools in various aspects of modern society, there is an urgent need to understand how these tools may influence how learners in higher education perceive their utility in assessing performance and providing personalized feedback. Our research aims to contribute to the ongoing exploration of generative AI, particularly in the area of student assessment and feedback generation, which has not been extensively examined in academic discourse

    Risk of Suicide Among Patients With Major Physical Disorders Considering Comorbidities of Mental Disorders: An Instrumental Variable Analysis

    Suicide is an important health concern. Excepting cancer, the association between physical disorders and suicidal risk is comparatively less explored. Instrumental variable analysis has been suggested as a powerful technique to deal with possible bias caused by unmeasured confounders in observational research. This population-based study set out to assess the suicidal risk of patients with major physical disorders by employing the instrumental variable analysis. Data were retrieved from the National Health Insurance Research Database and the Death Certification Registry in Taiwan (years 2010-2018). The Cox proportional hazards model with an instrumental variable estimator was performed, adjusting for comorbidities of mental disorders and other covariates. Analytical results showed that compared to their counterparts, patients with major physical disorders had an elevated risk of death by suicide within one year and three years after diagnosis of physical illness. Only did epilepsy not demonstrate a statistically significant impact on the risk of suicide.https://opus.govst.edu/fac/1297/thumbnail.jp

    Glass Hospitals: Transparency and Trustworthy Interpretation in Medical and Healthcare Expertise

    In their recent article in this journal, Giubilini, Gur-Arie, and Jamrozik argue that there is more to expertise than individual healthcare professionals’ knowledge of their fields. To be an expert is to be recognized as a credible authority, they explain, and being a credible authority necessitates trust. Among the core ethical principles they identify for trustworthy experts in medicine and healthcare are honesty, humility, and transparency. Here I aim to affirm these authors’ linkage of expertise and trust by decoupling both from a presumptive norm of transparency. My suggestion is not that medical or healthcare experts should lie or deceive, but that articulating their credible authority in terms of transparency mischaracterizes things. We see this in several ways: through the negative epistemic effects of a general norm of expert transparency, the importance of discretion in healthy trust relations, and the need for relationally responsive interpretation in how medical and health experts communicate with different patients and publics across social-epistemic difference.https://opus.govst.edu/fac/1156/thumbnail.jp

    The Village of Bradley (VoB) entered a collaborative relationship with Governors State University (GSU), College of Art and Science, Division of Arts and Letters, Public Policy and Administration Unit for the Spring 2025 semester. The VoB, located in Kankakee County, Illinois, is seeking the research of economic development corporations in Illinois and creating a website for Bradley Economic Development Corporation. The VoB has a small-town environment, with hopes of reversing the loss of the population base and developing a new revenue stream. The Village of Bradley has a motto of “Proud of Our Past, Focused on Our Future”. Its name was changed from North Kankakee to Bradley in 1895 after the David Bradley Manufacturing Company agreed to move its operations to the growing industrialized area. It sits in the scenic Kankakee River Valley of Illinois and is part of a larger urban area that includes the City of Kankakee and the Villages of Manteno and Bourbonnais in Kankakee County. The Village has a current population of approximately 15,695 people (U.S. Census, 2024). According to the Village of Bradley (2021), the median household income in Bradley is projected to increase by 9% from 61,800to61,800 to 67,400 by 2024. The VoB is hopeful this Bradley Economic Development Corporation will support economic development projects
