3D Human-Centric Design Alignment in Higher Education for Academic Achievement

    No full text
In today’s higher education landscape, fostering student success requires more than isolated interventions—it requires an intentional alignment of resources, curriculum, and interaction across multiple modalities. Human-centric design puts students – their needs, goals, challenges, and well-being – at the center of the learning experience. Rather than forcing students to adapt to rigid systems, the system adapts to students. Drawing on experiences from the Master of Public Administration (MPA) program during its Spring 2025 accreditation review and in conjunction with the university’s 2025–2030 Strategic Framework, the session will present a multi-dimensional framework that integrates accreditation-driven assessment, adaptive use of technology, and human-centric course design to promote student engagement, achievement, and well-being. The presenters will share outcomes that illustrate how accreditation-driven review and strategic planning can balance accountability, innovation, and inclusivity. Attendees will leave with practical strategies for aligning resources, curriculum, and interaction to promote achievement, persistence, and belonging at their own institutions

Collaborative Learning in Occupational Therapy Graduate Education: Student and Faculty Perspectives

    No full text
Collaborative learning is noted as an effective strategy for learning and engagement in graduate school. Collaborative learning specific to occupational therapy (OT) graduate learning supports opportunities to work with peers and prepare for professional practice by expanding critical thinking, interpersonal and teamwork skills. This study explored the benefits and challenges of collaborative learning in occupational therapy graduate programs from the perspective of both students and faculty. A cross-sectional descriptive design gathered student and faculty perspectives through closed and open-ended questions. Data analyzation used descriptive statistics of close-ended questions and content analysis of open-ended questions using frequency of the words or phrases to identify key concepts. Sixty-five students and fifteen faculty completed the study. Survey results revealed the composition of collaborative learning preferences, and the open-ended comments elaborated on the perceptions of collaborative learning. The results revealed varying perspectives between students and faculty with each having identified both benefits and challenges to collaborative learning. Although students and faculty perspectives vary, key concepts from the results indicate the benefits students obtain in interpersonal and professional skill development that is essential for health care practitioners working collaboratively towards better patient outcomes

Mitigating Burnout in Illinois Human Services Nonprofits: Exploring Leadership Strategies and Human Resource Practices

In this qualitative study, the researcher sought to explore how nonprofit leaders perceive and respond to employee burnout through answering the research question, “What strategies do leaders of human service nonprofits within the Chicago area implement to reduce the burnout risk and mitigate its consequences, and do the servant leadership practices explain the organizational approaches towards the burnout issue?” The researcher conducted semi-structured interviews with five leaders of Chicago-based human services nonprofit organizations to explore the prevalence of burnout, challenges that burnout presents to organizational mission, how they address burnout in their specific contexts, and what lingering challenges that threaten burnout may persist. After conducting thematic analysis, four themes emerged: leadership awareness of the burnout problem, servant leadership behaviors, organizational practices to mitigate burnout, and barriers to burnout mitigation. Within each theme, multiple subthemes were discovered and elaborated upon. Analysis of the study’s results revealed that many variables, including organizational size and culture, impacted the feasibility and impact of burnout mitigation; affirmed the importance of servant leadership as a protective factor against burnout; and indicated that measures must be taken at human services nonprofits to proactively anticipate the potential personal and professional challenges that employees may face in order to curb burnout. Future researchers are encouraged to explore the concepts of wellness-oriented leadership, trauma-responsive work environments, and the impact of organizational inclusion practices on burnout
