More than 600 Ouachita students, faculty and staff divided into 87 teams to complete 89 service projects at homes, non-profit organizations and churches in the Arkadelphia area.

The ceremony will honor more than 400 graduates, including awarding the university’s first Master of Science in Education degrees in curriculum & instruction.
Others recognized include those who have earned Bachelor of Arts, Bachelor of Science, Bachelor of Science in Nursing, Bachelor of Music, Bachelor of Music Education and Bachelor of Fine Arts degrees, as well as Master of Science degrees and post-baccalaureate certificates for Dietetic Internship. Graduates recognized will include students who completed their degree requirements in August 2022, December 2022 and May 2023

Ouachita\u27s engineering program receives accreditation from Higher Learning Commission
Get PDFThe Bachelor of Science degree program in engineering at Ouachita Baptist University has been approved by the university’s institutional accreditor, the Higher Learning Commission.
The engineering curriculum was approved by the faculty in Spring 2022. While several new engineering courses were available to students in the 2022-23 academic year, the official program launch is scheduled for Fall 2023. The 4-year residential program builds on the strength of Ouachita’s Bachelor of Science degree program in physics and is housed in the newly formed Department of Physics and Engineering in the J.D. No full textPeatland bogs store carbon and serve as important areas for maintaining biodiversity in multiple regions of Northern Europe and western Siberia. Loss of these wetlands could prove costly to the organisms found in these habitats, as well as causing significant carbon emissions into the atmosphere, catalyzing climate change. To understand the history of fire in peatlands in Northern England and their origins, peat cores were sampled. Holme Moss is a national park on the border between the Holme Valley district of Kirklees in West Yorkshire and the High Peak district of Derbyshire in Northern England. Peatland cores were extracted from the wetland-rich areas within Holme Moss, allowing analysis of charcoal contents and testate amoebae at depth levels up to 40 cm (approximately 1.31 ft) deep, to be used as proxies to determine high peaks in fire frequency. A multi-proxy analysis of the charcoal fragments and fire-indicating testate amoebae present at depth levels 26-40 cm indicates that a significant fire event occurred (mid late 18th century). These findings correlate with studies (Turner, 2012) that used pollen analysis and found fire events occurred in the late 18th century and early 19th century in the Holme Moss area
Short-Term Missions: Helping or Hurting?
Get PDFEvery year, thousands of short-term mission teams are sent out all over the world. It is estimated that more than four million Americans take an overseas short-term mission trip every year. Most of these participants are youth and young adults. The American church is estimated to spend as much, or more, on short-term mission trips as they do on sending and sustaining long-term missionaries. The question is, with all these participants and resources being sent out, are short-term mission trips helping or hurting the long-term goal of missions? Short-term missions can be helpful if they are plugging in and supporting the long-term project at hand.
Researching through literature, survey responses, and personal experiences, it can be proven that short-term mission trips can be helpful to the long-term goal. However, these teams must be more adequately prepared culturally, linguistically, mentally, and spiritually before they can effectively plug into the mission\u27s strategy and appropriately share the Gospel. This training must come early in the preparation for the short-term trip in order to give teams the most chance of success for plugging in and supporting the long-term missionary. Amy Young, author, and former long-term missionary, puts it this way, If you start preparing for your transition early, you can invest in the areas that are important to you instead of reacting as they come up.
This presentation is broken into four parts: the history of short-term missions, characteristics of a successful trip, intercultural communication and intelligence. and lastly, the success ratings of short-term trips. Each of these sections is a different aspect of the short-term mission\u27s experience. Together, these sections can help churches specifically, but other sending organizations as well, better prepare lheir short-term teams to go overseas to be effective bearers of the Gospel
Quantel Williams (Director of Residence Life)

Williams was named Ouachita’s director of residence life in June; he’s also a member of the campus police force, an adjunct professor in Christian studies and a bi-vocational pastor. Engaging with students is an important part of his work.
Before becoming Res Life director, Williams served as resident director at Tollett Hall and then O.C. Bailey Hall. He’s a student favorite among Ouachita staff. Even in a frenetic lunchtime crowd in “the stu,” they seek him out to say hi, ask a question, catch up – and everyone gets his attention
