    Effects of Different Soil Tillage Methods, Phosphorus Fertilizer Doses and Bacteria Inoculation on Yield and Yield Components in Chickpea (Cicer arietinum L.)

    This study was conducted to determine the effect of different soil tillage methods, phosphorus levels and bacteries on the yield and yield components in chickpea under Mugla/Turkey conditions in 2017 and 2018. Chickpea variety Inci was used as materials in this study. The study was conducted at split-split plot design with the three replication. Soil tillage methods was in main plots, phosphorus doses in subplots and bacteria application in sub-sub plots. According to finding of this study, reduced tillage system for chickpea production was the most efficient tool for obtaining the high yield performance. It is seen that phosphorus fertilizer applications cause an increase in yield in chickpea. In general, the application of rhizobia and phosphate solubilizing bacteria separately supported the yield increase in the plant. As a result, only rhizobia application, 60 kg ha-1 P2O5 and reduced tillage gave the highest yield

    A comparative study to estimate the mode I fracture toughness of rocks using several soft computing techniques

    Fracture toughness is an important phenomenon to reveal the actual strength of fractured rock materials. It is, therefore, crucial to use the fracture toughness models principally for simulating the performance of fractured rock medium. In this study, the mode-I fracture toughness (KIC) was investigated using several soft computing techniques. For this purpose, an extensive literature survey was carried out to obtain a comprehensive database that includes simple and widely used mechanical rock parameters such as uniaxial compressive strength (UCS) and Brazilian tensile strength (BTS). Several soft computing techniques such as artificial neural network (ANN), adaptive neuro-fuzzy inference system (ANFIS), gene expression programming (GEP), and multivariate adaptive regression spline (MARS) were attempted to reveal the availability of these methods to estimate the KIC. Among these techniques, it was determined that ANN presents the best prediction capability. The correlation of determination value (R2) for the proposed ANN model is 0.90, showing its relative success. In this manner, the present study can be declared a case study, indicating the applicability of several soft computing techniques for the evaluation of KIC. However, the number of samples for different rock types should be increased to improve the established predictive models in future studies

    Occurrence of Microplastics in Most Consumed Fruits and Vegetables from Turkey and Public Risk Assessment for Consumers

    Microplastics are transferred to humans through the food chain by consuming food con- taminated with microplastics. However, the knowledge about the risks of dietary exposure for humans to these particles is very limited. Moreover, only a few studies on microplastic pollution in fruit and vegetables have been carried on. Thus, this study aims to investigate the presence of microplastics in some of the most consumed fruits and vegetables (pear (Pyrus communis), apple (Malus domestica), tomato (Solanum lycopersicum), onion (Allium cepa), potatoes (Solanum tuberosum), and cucumber (Cucumis sativus)) from Turkey and to evaluate the potential risk for consumers. Fruits and vegetable samples were purchased from different markets and fruiterer (two of each) in Mu ˘gla province, Southwest of Turkey. Microplastic extraction processes were carried out on the edible parts of the samples. According to the results obtained, a total of 210 particles (2.9 ± 1.6 particle g−1) were detected in all samples. Any significant difference occurred among the different markets. The maxi- mum average amount of microplastic was determined in tomato samples (3.63 ± 1.39 particle g−1). The highest microplastic intake was with tomato (398,520 particles individual−1 year−1 for Estimated Annual Intake (EAI) and Estimated Daily Intake (EDI) for children 68.24 particles kg−1 day−1). The occurrence of microplastics of big size, that are not allowed to pass by plant xylem transport, suggests that fresh vegetables and fruits can be contaminated with plastic, especially during the production phase, during agricultural activities and during the marketing process (transport to the market and purchasing process)

    Influence of General and Local Anesthesia on Postoperative Pain After a Loop Electrosurgical Excision Procedure

    Objective To compare patient satisfaction, histopathologic results, and short-term morbidity in patients undergoing loop electrosurgical excision procedure (LEEP) under local anesthesia (LA) versus general anesthesia (GA). Methods Participants who met the inclusion criteria were randomly allocated in a 1:1 ratio to the LA group or GA group. Pain was determined by both objective (faces pain scale-revised) and subjective (visual analog scale score) methods. Results Data from 244 patients (123 in the LA group and 121 in the GA group) were analyzed. The median cone volume was 2.0 (0.4-4.7) cm3 in the LA group and 2.4 (0.3-4.8) cm3 in the GA group. There was no difference in margin involvement or repeat conization between the groups. The procedure time, time to complete hemostasis, intraoperative blood loss, and early postoperative blood loss were similar between the groups. The visual analog scale scores were higher in the LA group at 1, 2, and 4 hours postoperatively, but the differences between the groups were not significant. In addition, the median faces pain scale-revised scores at 1, 2, and 4 hours postoperatively were not significantly different between the LA and GA groups. Conclusions The present study showed no difference in pain during the postoperative period, need for additional analgesia, volume of the extracted cone specimens, rate of positive surgical margin, bleeding volume, or operation time in women undergoing loop electrosurgical excision procedure under LA versus GA

    The impact of a videoconferencing-ımplemented program on older adults' psychosocial health in the COVID-19 pandemic: an experimental study

    Background: Social distancing and ‘stay-at-home’ orders are essential to contain the coronavirus outbreak; however, it has affected older adults very negatively psychosocially. The present study explored the impact of a videoconferencing-implemented program on older adults' psychosocial health during the COVID-19 pandemic. Methods: We carried out this experimental research with pretest-posttest and control groups between November 02 to December 26, 2020 on individuals aged 60 years and over who were enrolled at Fethiye Refreshment University (60+ FRU). While the intervention group consisted of 40 people, we recruited 52 participants in the control group. Unlike the control group, the intervention group participated in a structured videoconferencing program held there days a week for 8 weeks. We collected the data using the Fear of COVID-19 Scale (FCV-19S), the Multidimensional Scale of Perceived Social Support (MSPS), the Depression Anxiety Stress Scale (DASS-21), and the Loneliness Scale for Elderly (LSE). The data were then analysed on the SPSS 22.0 program. Results: The participants had a mean age of 66.13 ± 5.13 years; 65.2% were females, 58.7% were married, 55.4% held a university degree and 93.5% had a regular income. Following the intervention, we found the experimental group to have significantly a lower posttest FCV-19S score (p 0.05). Conclusion: Overall, the videoconferencing program was found to be efficient in providing older adults with psychosocial support amid social isolation

    Fabrication of metal-organic framework based electrochemical Leishmania immunosensor

    Leishmaniasis is a disease with a high impact on public health in many countries. In this study, an electro-chemical immunosensor for Leishmania major surface protease (Gp63) antibody detection was developed using copper metal organic framework (Cu-(NH2-BDC)-MOF) modified gold screen printed electrode (AuSPE). For this purpose, after modification step of AuSPE with Cu-(NH2-BDC)-MOF, recombinant L.donovani antigen was immobilized on to electrode surface via crosslinker where change in electrochemical signal was monitored with electrochemical impedance spectroscopy technique. After conducting comprehensive optimization studies on experimental parameters of developed Leishmania immunosensor, analytical characteristics were searched. As a result, it was observed that anti-gp63 solution diluted up to the ratio of 1:1500 could be detected with the developed sensor. Meanwhile, relative standard deviation value was found as 4.67% for anti-gp63 diluted in the ratio of 1:80 (n = 3). Accordingly, real sample analysis was also performed by using Leishmania parasite crude antigen and rabbit serum which were positive and negative control samples, respectively. According to the re-sults obtained, it can be concluded that a practical immunosensor that can allow the early diagnosis of leish-maniasis was developed

    Changes in students' mental constructions of function transformations through the APOS framework

    This study aims to examine the changes in students' mental constructions of function transformation based on the designed activities, classroom discussions, exercises (ACE) teaching cycle in the light of the action, process, object, schema (APOS) theoretical framework. The study was conducted by seven volunteer students who were enrolled in mathematics teacher education program. The data consisted of video records of the designed teaching sessions, students' worksheets and the researcher's field notes. The results indicated that ACE teaching cycle was effective in developing students' mental constructions of function transformation through sequential activities. Even though all the students initially did not reveal evidence for sufficient theoretical or practical knowledge on function transformation, which was evidence of their action level, through the process, it became evident that all the students provided evidence regarding at least their process level of function transformations. Some of the students also showed evidence related to their object levels of function transformations

    Antioxidant and anti-inflammatory potential of crocin on the doxorubicin mediated hepatotoxicity in Wistar rats

    Doxorubicin (DXR) is widely used in cancer treatment. However, it has not yet been possible to prevent the side effects of DXR. The aim of this study was to investigate the hepatoprotective effect of crocin against DXR used in cancer treatment. For this reason; forty Wistar rats (male-250–300 g) were allocated into four groups (n = 10/group): Control, Crocin, DXR and DXR+Crocin. Control and Crocin groups were administered saline and crocin (40 mg/kg, i.p) for 15 days, respectively. DXR group, cumulative dose 12 mg/kg DXR, was administered for 12 days via 48 h intervals in six injections (2 mg/kg each, i.p). DXR+Crocin group, crocin (40 mg/kg-i.p) was administered for 15 days, and DXR was given as in the DXR group. The results revealed that serum liver markers (alanine transaminase (ALT), aspartate transaminase (AST), and alkaline phosphatase (ALP) increased significantly after DXR administration but recovered after crocin therapy. In addition, lipid peroxidation (MDA), and inflammatory cytokine (TNF-α) increased after DXR application and the antioxidative defense system (GSH, SOD, CAT) significantly decreased and re-achieved by crocin treatment. Our results conclude that crocin treatment was related to ameliorated hepatocellular architecture and reduced hepatic oxidative stress and inflammation in rats with DXR-induced hepatotoxicity

    The Investigation of Kinesiophobia, Pain Catastrophizing, Physical Activity, Anxiety, and Depression in Patients With or Without Myocardial Infarction

    Purpose: The study aimed to investigate kinesiophobia, pain catastrophizing, physical activity, anxiety, and depression in patients with MI.Material and Methods: A cross-sectional study was conducted with 100 participants (50 myocardial infarction, 50 age-sex matched controls). Participants were evaluated with the Tampa Scale of Kinesiophobia for Heart (TSK Heart), Pain Catastrophizing Scale (PCS), International Physical Activity Questionnaire-Short Form (IPAQ-SF), and Hospital Anxiety and Depression Scale (HAD).Results: IPAQ-SF (except sitting time) was higher in the control group (p<0.01). PCS score (p<0.01), HAD-A (p=0.001) and HAD-D (p=0.006) scores were significantly higher in the MI group. TSK Heart was correlated with Sitting PA (r=0.425), Walking PA (r=-0.574), Moderate PA (r=-0.632), HAD-A (r=0.641) and HAD-D (r=0.827) (p<0.01). There was a relationship between HAD-A with Sitting PA, Walking PA and Moderate PA (r1=0.445, r2=-0.485, r3=-0.378, p<0.01). Lastly, HAD-D was correlated with Sitting PA, Walking PA and Moderate PA (r1=0.475, r2=-0.520, r3=-0.578, p<0.01).Conclusion: The study results showed decreased physical activity, increased kinesiophobia, pain catastrophizing, depression and anxiety in patients with MI. In addition, kinesiophobia was related to mild -moderate physical activity and depression-anxiety
