    Trenton Wilkens Living Memoirs Interview

    Get PDF
Trenton shared about his fascinating experience as a teacher in Rwanda. He discussed the geopolitical issues he faced as he interacted with locals there and shared about how his experience as a teacher affirmed his career goals. He spoke of the importance of relationships and how his student missionary year cemented that in him. Rwanda is a landlocked country in east-central Africa, with one of the highest population densities in sub-Saharan Africa and consists of beautiful mountain chains and large valleys. The primary ethnic groups in Rwanda consist of the Hutu, Tutsi, and Twa people but the country has adopted a nationalistic identity. Rwanda’s primary languages are Kinyarwanda, English, French, and Swahili. Rwanda is known for the genocide of 1994 and the atrocities associated with it and its population of endangered mountain gorillas. Lemarchand, R. and Clay, Daniel. Rwanda. The Impact of Financial Security and Extracurriculars on Seventh Day Adventist College Students\u27 Academic Success and Mental Well-Being

    Get PDF
The presentation covers the rationale, methodology, and results of a mixed-methods study designed to answer the following research question: Does the relationship between a Southern Adventist University student’s financial security and involvement in extracurricular activities influence academic success and mental well-being? Data will be collected via a survey and individual in-depth interviews from a convenience sample of students from Southern Adventist University. Finally, it discusses implications for practice or policy change

The presentation covers the rationale, methodology, and results of a mixed-methods study designed to answer the following research question: What if any, is the role of religiosity and the impact on mental health among college students and their willingness to seek emotional/mental health support from a religious university? Data will be collected via a survey and individual in-depth interviews from a convenience sample of students at Southern Adventist University. Finally, it discusses implications for practice or policy change

That\u27s (Not) Just the Way I Am: Conscientiousness, Neuroticism, State-Trait Anxiety, and High-Pressure Exam Grades in Undergraduate Students

    No full text
This study examines the relationships between undergraduate students’ responses to conscientiousness and neuroticism inventories, their reported state-trait anxiety within one hour of a major exam, and their grades on that exam. The study found no statistically significant relationship between students’ reported state-trait anxiety before their exams and their final grades. However, a strong statistically significant correlation was found between students’ neuroticism inventory responses and their reported levels of state-trait anxiety. The study\u27s research methods, results, and limitations are explained

Phosphorous NMR on a 60MHz Spectrometer

    No full text
My poster will document my semester long research project focused on developing a method to run P-31 (phosphorous 31). This project will include instrumentation optimization, software modernization, and comparisons to known spectra of compounds. After this project is successful, the chemistry department will be able to analyze phosphorus containing compounds created by other research students and department members

Synthesis of Multi-Heterocyclic Compounds Contain Phosphorus

    No full text
For my research project, I will be using phosphorus compounds such as 5-Phenyl-5H-benzo[b]phosphindole and 2,2’-Dibromobiphenyl to synthesize my compound. Because my compound has not been made yet, I will be taking information from various sources and combining them to develop a step-by-step procedure. After my compound is synthesized, I will be using reagents to add on groups using Diels-Alder reactions. After my compound is synthesized, I will be looking into adding heterocyclic rings to the compound all around. I will be experimenting with the use of tetraphenylcyclopentadienone and 1,2-bis(4-butylphenyl)ethyne to give hexaphenylbenzene

The Relationship between Church Attendance and Depression and Anxiety in College Students

    No full text
My presentation will consist of my research this semester: The Relationship between Church Attendance and Depression and Anxiety in College Students. It will focus on the aspect of belonging and how that found in the church, and church events such as; vespers, life groups, and sabbath school. This presentation will display the results of my study. Some other questions that my research study will answer is the importance of frequently attending church, and the fact of just going. With this study I hope to inform others on the importance belonging has on the mental health well being of students on campus

An Ab Initio Computation of the Potential Energy Surfaces of the DNA Bases

    Get PDF
The potential energy surfaces of atoms in DNA can be analyzed and compared to show how their bonds break. This DNA potential energy reference data is very useful to understanding how DNA damage occurs, however, a dataset of relevant potential energy surfaces is not available for scientific use. We obtain the potential energy surfaces of various atoms in the four DNA bases adenine, thymine, guanine, and cytosine, by moving an atom in these molecules in three orthogonal directions using ORCA, an ab initio quantum chemistry software. Density functional theory isused to compute potential energies as an atom is moved, and this data is compiled into a useful three-dimensional surface for experimental application

    Learning Styles

    Get PDF
My presentation will be about learning styles theories and why they are now a myth. The presentation will have a run down of the theoretical problems that learning styles have, the lack of evidence to support the theories, the impracticality of learning styles intervention, and what may be done in place of them
