No full textPowerNotes is a citation/annotation software that can be downloaded as a browser extension to Chrome or Firefox. Students/faculty can create an account using their Southern email. The plugin/extension allows students to highlight the desired text, add notes, and confirm citations in a smooth, accessible process. Sharing projects with other individuals is of course included as well as exporting the outline or bilbiography as a Word doc.
McKee Library is offering an Open Educational Resources (OER) stipend. We proudly support the use of OER in higher learning, and in an effort to encourage the adoption of OER on campus, we are offering a for two professors who are willing to transition from traditional textbooks to OER and/or other Open Access resources

No full text“‘Wisdom is the principal thing; therefore, get wisdom’ Prov. 4:7,” first edition, is the fruit of more than twenty years of experience in teaching introductory and college level laboratories at different colleges and universities in the United States as well as in Europe. It is a physics laboratory compendium that has enough materials to cover a two-semester course, but it is easily adjustable to the quarter system and adoptable into three sequential classes. The targeted audience includes students taking calculus-based physics courses as well as students taking non-calculus-based physics courses. Therefore, this physics laboratory compendium is especially useful in a system where both students in non-calculus-based and students in calculus-based classes are combined into the same laboratory sessions.
All thirty chapters of this compendium are written in the same format that is described in the section “Laboratory Session Format” below. With its thirty chapters, it constitutes a pool of laboratories that makes a weekly synchronization with lecture topics easier. Each lab has at least one hands-on activity, which can be partly used as in class demo. The other activities use PASCO equipment, which reduces the length of the laboratory sessions with computer-assisted data-taking. However, these activities could be done with simple and standard equipment too, which might be beneficial if the time allocated to the laboratory sessions is long enough. Each single laboratory presented in this compendium is meant to last 2 to 2.5 hours in its current form

Simulation: Are We Doing Enough?

Objective: Simulation is a widely utilized tool for training healthcare professionals. Research examines and details the benefits of simulation, although there is no recommendation for the most effective amount. This project aims to determine if increased amounts of simulation benefit nursing residents\u27 confidence and self-efficacy regarding the deteriorating patient. Method: Based on a review of literature regarding simulation use, nursing transition-to-practice programs, and patient deterioration, nursing residents were exposed to varying amounts of simulation and asked to respond to questionnaires regarding their perceived self-efficacy, satisfaction, and self-confidence utilizing a quasi-experimental, comparative design approach. Qualitative data was obtained through debriefing that followed each intervention. Intervention: This study\u27s interventions included four different simulation scenarios involving decompensating patients with varying underlying pathology. Participants were exposed to either no extra simulation, two hours of simulation, or four hours of simulation. Results: Eleven nursing residents participated. Total satisfaction and self-confidence among intervention groups participating in the simulation were not statistically different (U = 4.50, p = .593). Simulation learning experiences elicited a statistically significant mean increase in total self-efficacy scores compared to no participation (z = -2.366, p = .018). Median self-efficacy scores increased from the control to both intervention groups, but the differences were not statistically significant (χ2(2) = 5.182, p = .075). Conclusion: The intervention did not produce statistically significant data to recommend increasing simulation among nursing residents, nor did it lend direction on a concrete, adequate amount, but it did produce data suggesting continued support of simulation use as there were notable improvements in perceived selfefficacy along with satisfaction and self-confidence.
