    Collegedale at a Crossroads

    No full text
Collegedale – a place of scenic mountain landscapes, the tranquility of Happy Valley and the hum of rumbling trains; a place of perpetual traditional values, community pride and Southern hospitality. But how will the city look, feel and change over the next five to 10 years? Boasting a population of 11,000, this sleepy college town is the fastest growing part of Hamilton County. While growth might offer some advantages, such as increased tax revenue, more businesses, higher property values and better housing options, it also poses challenges for the community

Indexed Concatenation Notation: A Novel Way to Summarize Networks and Other Complex Systems

    No full text
The indexed concatenation notation presented in this paper extends the concept of concatenation in a way similar to the extension of addition to the indexed sum, allowing compact representations of strings, lists, matrices, etc., having internal repetitive or describable structure. In particular, it allows the edge difference set list of any graphical network with a visible pattern to be summarized in an extremely compact and lossless way. Examples highlight the information compression of the technique and showcase its ability to represent complicated, infinite patterns in closed form

Loss of Skiv2l triggers altered cell differentiation and compromises intestinal barrier integrity*

    No full text
Disruption of the intestinal epithelial barrier increases microbial exposure, triggering inflammation and exacerbating autoimmune disorders like inflammatory bowel disease (IBD). Current treatments focus on immune suppression, often leading to side effects. Tricho-Hepato-Enteric syndrome (THES), a rare early-onset IBD, results from mutations in SKIV2L or TTC37, both components of the RNA exosome. Using VillinCreER; Skiv2l^fl/fl mouse intestinal organoids, we show Skiv2l deletion induces ER stress, with elevated ER stress proteins by 48 hours and reduced organoid formation efficiency. These findings suggest Skiv2l maintains epithelial integrity via mRNA regulation and ER homeostasis, offering therapeutic insight beyond immune suppression

Synthesis and reactivity of anthraquinone dimer derivatives towards benzophosphole formation

    No full text
For campus research day, my presentation will be focusing on the synthesis and purification techniques used to obtain anthraquinone derivatives. The ultimate goal of creating these derivatives is to obtain a benzophosphole using the anthraquinone dimer. In it, I will explain the experimental process, including refluxing, filtration, and solvent testing, to improve product purity. The presentation will also explore how the final benzophosphole product could exhibit interesting optoelectronic properties, potentially making it valuable for OLED applications or advanced battery materials. This research highlights the potential for creating novel organic compounds with enhanced electronic and photophysical characteristics
