Comparing AI and Human Self-Assessments in Memorization Performance*
Many students in higher education use flashcard applications for learning large amounts of information in limited amounts of time. Many of these applications rely on spaced-repetition algorithms for memorization, which are proven to be more efficient than traditional study methods. We compared the effects of studying with a spaced-repetition application that utilizes a NLU model to calculate a user\u27s understanding of material against the effects of studying with a spaced-repetition model that did not use NLU. We used our results to determine if replacing the self-assessment component of flashcard studying applications with a NLU model led to better memorization and retention
Conversational Prayer
“Trust in him at all times, O people; pour out your heart before him; God is a refuge for us.” Psalm 62:8, ESV
Fulfilling Purpose, Calling, and Commissioning through Boundary Spanning
Increased efforts to normalize calling within diverse professions have been successful at generating more mainstream acceptance of its premises and purpose, especially in the context of career. Though recognition that calling extends to vocations other than ministers and missionaries bring wider acceptance of the construct, it is often misconstrued as one’s best temporal job fit, rather than a divine purpose through which God intends to accomplish His purposes. From the very acts of creation, God demonstrates that it is only through Him that divine purposes are accomplished. Only God spans the boundary between emptiness and fulness, sinfulness and holiness, humanity and divinity, temporal and eternal to create and recreate; to save and to restore. Scripture is replete with examples of God working in and through others for His salvific purposes. Calling, our holy calling, serves as a conduit through which God continues these boundary spanning acts. It is through this calling and commissioning we fulfill our purpose—God’s purpose
Tooth Type and Position in a Hypothetical P. bakkeri Jaw
The classification of troodontid theropods, particularly Pectinodon bakkeri, has long been a challenge due to significant variation in tooth morphology. This study analyzes over 550 P. bakkeri teeth recovered from the Newfeld Quarry Microsite in the Upper Cretaceous Lance Formation. Through k-means clustering, three distinct tooth morphotypes were identified, revealing differences in size, curvature, and wear patterns between maxillary and dentary teeth. Comparative analysis with other troodontids, such as Troodon formosus and Zanabazar junior, provides insight into taxonomic distinctions. These findings contribute to reconstructing a hypothetical P. bakkeri jaw and refining troodontid dental classification, offering a deeper understanding of Late Cretaceous theropod diversity
Association of Plant-based Dietary Patterns with Female Reproductive Cancer Incidence and Mortality: A Systematic Review
Healthy plant-based eating, a health-related behavior that nurses may promote, has been associated with a decrease in multiple types of cancer. However, the association of a healthy plant-based dietary pattern with decreased female reproductive cancers has not yet been established.
This review of the literature followed PRISMA guidelines to search for the relationship between a healthy plant-based dietary pattern and incidence of and mortality from a breast or gynecological cancer diagnosis. Databases searched for this review included PubMed, EMBASE, CINAHL, and Web of Science.
We identified 27 publications that met the qualifications for inclusion. Twelve studies covered mortality from breast, uterine, and ovarian cancer in six cohorts, comparing plant-based eating to meat-eating dietary patterns with no consistent trends. Fifteen publications reported incidence of breast, uterine, cervical, endometrial, and ovarian cancer in 11 cohorts related to diet exposure, finding trends toward a statistically significant reduction in gynecological and breast cancer risks for plant-based eaters compared to omnivores.
Studies are limited in reporting cancer incidence or mortality related to healthy plant-based dietary patterns, especially for female breast and gynecological cancers. Limited, emerging evidence suggests that the greater the adherence toward a healthy plant-based diet, the lower the risk of female reproductive cancer. With overall trends to positive associations for reducing risk and evidence that a healthy plant-based diet is protective against other comorbidities such as cardiovascular disease, type 2 diabetes, and obesity, nurses may recommend a healthy plant-based, plant-predominant diet for improved health and possible reduction in female reproductive cancer
Communicating a Helpful, Saving Relationship with Christ for Students Scarred by Harmful Religion
There are students in our midst who come from backgrounds and situations in which harmful religion was the norm and who are thereby wounded and scarred and struggle with religion as a whole and/or with attending a religious school. This paper discusses harmful religion and what is needed to heal from it, and it introduces upcoming research on communication tools that can aid an instructor who has students who have been scarred by legalism, spiritual abuse, or other forms of harmful religion. The goal is for those who have a saving relationship with Christ and have a heart of compassion to better understand how such tools can help students heal from their wounds and be better able and more inclined to discover or grow in such a relationship of their own with Christ

Comparing AI and Human Self-assessments in Memorization Performance
While there is some research that explores the effects of using artificial intelligence in a classroom setting, there has been very little exploration into how machine-learning-reliant methods are compared to traditional study methods, specifically in the area of memorizing complex topics. This study analyzes the effects of replacing a student’s perceived learning efficacy of a subject with a natural language understanding (NLU) model. We compared the effects of studying with a spaced-repetition application that utilizes an NLU model to calculate a user’s understanding of material against the effects of studying with a spaced-repetition model that does not use NLU. We used our results to determine if replacing the self-assessment component of flashcard studying applications with an NLU model leads to better memorization and retention. We found that while both approaches produced similar results, the non-NLU approach produced slightly higher and more consistent memorization outcomes than the NLU approach
