Determinants of the effectiveness of fast break actions in elite and sub-elite Italian men\u27s basketball games
The aim of this study was to examine the determinants of successful and unsuccessful fast-break (FB) actions in elite and sub-elite basketball games. Fifteen 1st-division (elite) and fifteen 3rd-division (sub-elite) Italian men’s championship games were analysed across two seasons (2012/2013 and 2013/2014). A binary logistic regression analysis was performed, and the fast-break outcome (successful vs. unsuccessful) was adopted as the dependent variable separately in both elite and sub-elite games. FB execution (initiation, advance and completion phases), typology (primary and secondary break) and the number of players involved (equal number or superiority) were used as independent variables. The results showed that the rate of success of FB actions was 63.5% and 59.7% in elite and sub-elite games, respectively. Moreover, successful FBs were more likely to be completed in the lane in relation to unsuccessful ones in both elite and sub-elite games (p\u3c0.05). Finally, descriptive statistics showed that both elite and sub-elite teams executed FBs similarly. This study highlighted that completion zone was the only predictor of a successful fast break in basketball, while the typology and number of players involved did not predict fast break effectiveness. Moreover, elite and sub-elite teams executed fast break actions similarly. These findings might be useful for basketball coaches to optimize the training of FB actions
Finding the Missing Link between Corporate Social Responsibility and Firm Competitiveness through Social Capital: A Business Ecosystem Perspective
There are existing studies that successfully show the impact of corporate social responsibility (CSR) on firms’ financial performance. However, limited attention is paid to its impact on the business ecosystem. CSR could be seen as an investment for building a sustainable business ecosystem, which enhances the competitiveness of this system’s members. In that context, this study apprehends and captures the virtuous cycle of firm competitiveness. On analyzing data from interviews with seven firms, the study offers four propositions identifying the structure of the virtuous cycle linking CSR activities to firm competitiveness through the accumulation of social capital within business ecosystems. Based on those propositions, the study offers new insights into CSR research for academics and strategic planning guidelines for managers that integrate social and economic values for a sustainable business ecosystem and firm competitiveness

Supply chain network capacity competition with outsourcing: a variational equilibrium framework
This paper develops a supply chain network game theory framework with multiple manufacturers/producers, with multiple manufacturing plants, who own distribution centers and distribute their products, which are distinguished by brands, to demand markets, while maximizing profits and competing noncooperatively. The manufacturers also may avail themselves of external distribution centers for storing their products and freight service provision. The manufacturers have capacities associated with their supply chain network links and the external distribution centers also have capacitated storage and distribution capacities for their links, which are shared among the manufacturers and competed for. We utilize a special case of the Generalized Nash Equilibrium problem, known as a variational equilibrium, in order to formulate and solve the problem. A case study on apple farmers in Massachusetts is provided with various scenarios, including a supply chain disruption, to illustrate the modeling and methodological framework as well as the potential benefits of outsourcing in this sector
Nasally-Administered Oxytocin Has Limited Effects on Owner-Directed Attachment Behavior in Pet Dogs (Canis lupus familiaris)
The present study explored the effects of intranasal oxytocin, a naturally occurring hormone, on the behavior of pet dogs during an attachment test. Each dog participated in two testing sessions. On one visit saline was administered nasally, and on another, oxytocin was administered nasally. For half of the dogs (n = 20), solutions were administered with a Mucosal Atomization Device (MAD) and for half of the dogs (n = 20), solutions were administered using a nasal spray bottle. Condition order was counterbalanced and a double-blind methodology was employed. Following a 30-min wait period after administration of solutions, dog-owner pairs participated in the Secure Base Test, a short attachment test consisting of three 2-min phases: (1) Baseline- the owner was present, dogs were able to freely explore the testing room (2) Alone- dogs were left alone in the testing room (3) Return- owners re-entered the room and were reunited with their dog. In each phase the dog was evaluated for contact seeking, exploration, and avoidance behaviors. Although, oxytocin administration was expected to increase owner-directed proximity and contact seeking behavior, this effect was not observed. In fact, in the baseline phase, dogs spent significantly more time seeking the proximity of their owners when they received saline than when they received OT (p \u3c 0.05). Sex differences were also assessed for the behavioral variables of interest in the Secure Base Test, and results indicated that OT did not affect dogs\u27 behavior in the alone phase, but when saline was administered, females spent significantly more time in contact with the door than males in the alone phase (p \u3c 0.05). Overall, the effects of nasally administered oxytocin on attachment related behavior appeared to be limited or inconsistent for this pet dog population

I was visiting one of my nephews in NYC and he showed me a Tibetan metal bowl that he bought from a street vender in Greenwich Village. He rubbed a mallet along the bowl’s edge…and the bowl vibrated and generated a low, ringing hum. My nephew was in awe, claiming that the vibrations and the tone put him in a unique state of calm, a trance.
I was intrigued and over the next year spent many hours testing the sounds elicited by stemware at garage sales and Goodwill stores.
Like the Tibetan bowl, or a tuning fork, or wine glasses, every object will vibrate at a specific, measurable frequency. This particular frequency, known as the object’s resonant frequency, is based upon an object’s size, shape, thickness and substance.

Restorative Practices in One Pacific Northwest Middle School: A Case Study of Multiple Stakeholders’ Perspectives and Experiences
The purpose of this qualitative case study was to explore restorative justice practices in one Pacific Northwest Middle School. The specific restorative practices used as well as staff and student experiences and perceptions explored. Data were collected from teacher surveys (n=22), staff interviews (n=6), student interviews (n=3), restorative circle observations (3 sessions) and a document analysis. Results included descriptions of seven distinct restorative practices as well as an in-depth account of a whole-class dialogue circle. Staff perspectives indicated the challenges, benefits, and recommendations for RJ implementation as well as key student viewpoints and experiences on the transformative power of restorative justice. Implications include the importance of the following: accountability within RJ, high levels of support from district leadership, developing staff commitment to RJ, and facilitating the culture shift needed to implement RJ successfully
