Optimizing the Peter Kiewit Institute Course Schedule Using Answer Set Programming
This project introduces a program that automates the process of minimizing conflict between classes that students are likely to take simultaneously at the Peter Kiewit Institute at the University of Nebraska Omaha using Answer Set Programming. The main objectives of this project are to encode the specifics of a schedule regulation for courses pertinent to computer science majors, identify critical conflicts between the courses in a given schedule, and propose an assignment of timeslots. More specifically, a scheduled section is assigned a new timeslot, which is a combination of days, start time, and end time, from the list of timeslots seen in the input schedule. This assignment is optimal in three areas; that is, the proposed schedule should minimize the number of critical conflicts, preference violations, and timeslot changes in decreasing order of importance
Cavedivers: A Multi-Media Visual and Musical Release
For my graduating UNO Honors Program capstone project, I have chosen to undertake a creative project that involves recording and releasing an album with my band, Cavedivers, while also designing the visual media and advertising graphics to accompany the release. The songs we have recorded were all written and developed before the start of this project. Therefore, this project is less of a songwriting endeavor, since most of that process is already complete, and more of an experimentation and workshop in communicating music through recording and identifying effective trends within graphic design.
As an art major and musician, this has been an excellent opportunity to complete a multimedia project according to a deadline, along with networking within the Omaha art and music scene. This project has provided me with valuable insights into the process of recording music and utilizing various media to create designs. As a Studio Art major concentrating in Media Arts and Graphic Design, the importance of experimentation, alongside feedback and workshopping those ideas, has always been emphasized. Gathering feedback on my designs has been a focal point of this project. Going into this project, I aimed to record an album of five to ten songs, which would later be released digitally, and design at least three items of merchandise: a poster, a video piece, and an album cover
China begann, Deutschland in all diesen Anteilen zu überholen.
Examining the Malign Use of AI: A Case Study Report
This case study report is meant to provide detailed descriptions of events involving the malign use of artificial intelligence (AI), the mechanisms that may be influencing the use of AI for malign use, and practical implications from these examples. For each of the 10 separate cases, connections between the case and recent events that utilize AI in a similar manner will be described. For further information regarding types of artificial intelligence and their malign application, refer to d\u27Amato and colleagues (2024)
Rapid Review A: The Logic of Terrorist Use of Unmanned Aerial Systems, Enabling Factors, and Barriers to Exploitation
The National Counterterrorism Innovation, Technology, and Education (NCITE) Center has been tasked by the U.S. Department of Homeland Security to support evidenced, novel frameworks that accurately represent the current nature and future trajectory of the threat of terrorist use of unmanned aerial systems (UAS). In support of a subject matter expert summit hosted in early 2025, the project team completed three rapid review reports which focus on key dimensions of the issue, which include emerging trends, the logic of terrorist UAS exploitation, and related risk factors
Julie Owens
Their project is about their grandmother, Julie Owens, and her journey from poverty to the middle class by way of her own ingenuity, skill, and hard work. ***Note: There are additional images that correspond to this presentation. They can be found under additional files below*** Image Descriptions: Image 01: The image showcases a memorial display on a tabletop covered with a red cloth. It features an array of family photographs in frames of various sizes and styles, including ornate, wooden, and metallic designs. Several battery-operated candles with a warm yellow glow are placed around the photographs, adding a solemn ambiance. On the left, a framed black and white photograph of a couple in vintage attire is highlighted. In the center, a large frame contains three different family photos, each displaying multiple people smiling together. A small model of a pink tile-roofed house is situated beside it. To the right, more framed photos are visible, including one of a woman in a graduation cap and gown. A small, elegant bottle of Dior perfume and a book with a portrait on its cover add personal touches to the presentation. In the backdrop, there are beige chairs and a black bag. Image 02: The image displays a collection of personal memorabilia arranged on a deep red cloth. Several framed photographs depict family gatherings, portraits, and various candid moments. Candles with yellow-orange flames are interspersed among the items, casting a warm glow. In the center, an open book with a black cover and green rosary on top lies beside a framed certificate titled Diploma. Additional photographs include holiday scenes with a decorated Christmas tree, and there are informal snapshots of individuals in various settings. A small note labeled Jennifer with new neices is visible on the right.https://digitalcommons.unomaha.edu/tellallthetruthspring2025/1010/thumbnail.jp
Establishing Age-Related Changes in Gait Dynamics, Human Movement Variability, and Person Identification
This dissertation explores the development and application of the NONAN Gaitprint dataset, a comprehensive resource for studying human gait’s variability and individuality. Gait, a fundamental aspect of human locomotion, is inherently variable. No two steps are exactly alike, and a series of steps is not arranged randomly. In fact, consecutive steps share information that reveal non-random patterns over time. Those patterns can be described using nonlinear analytical methods, such as the Hurst exponent, sample entropy, and recurrence quantification analysis. Many of these time series-based analyses require natural overground walking over a long enough duration to reveal the temporal structure of a person’s gait. This temporal structure and averaged gait kinematics can be used for identification—much like a fingerprint, hence the name \u27gaitprint.\u27 By applying machine learning algorithms to identify nearly one-hundred healthy young, middle, and older adults based on their gait kinematics, near perfect identification accuracy was achieved. Identification accuracy remained very high even when participants returned for a second set of nine walking trials one week after their initial session. Using this large dataset of overground walking kinematics recorded with inertial measurement units, we then compared linear and nonlinear gait features across three age groups. Such comparisons revealed that age moderates the temporal structure of gait, leading to differences between men and women. This dataset serves as an important repository to establish best practices and develop new nonlinear analyses of human movement. In the future, unique gait features and their nonlinear descriptors could significantly impact the prognosis of disease, disability, and mobility loss
