Bathrooms as Borders: Moms for Liberty and the Policing of Women’s Spaces
As debates about transgender identity and inclusion influence discussions and policy across the United States, it is important to understand the rhetoric and manifestations of transphobia and trans exclusion. One organization advocating for the exclusion of transgender individuals is Moms for Liberty which is dedicated to preserving parental rights. On their official X (formerly Twitter) account Moms for Liberty often voices their opposition to the inclusion of transgender women in women’s sports and women’s private spaces, justifying their exclusive stance by denying transgender women’s womanhood. They additionally cast themselves as the authorities on who is a woman and who is not, as well as who should be allowed into women’s spaces, because of their motherhood. With their denial of womanhood and access to women’s spaces, Moms for Liberty creates a border around womanhood and positions themselves as legitimate police of this border by leveraging their motherhood and their rights as mothers to control spaces that their children could enter

Examining the Perceptions of Restorative Practices in a Non-Profit Organization: A Comparative Analysis of Staff and Youth Attitudes
This study examines the attitudes toward restorative justice (RJ) among staff and youth at a non-profit residential organization. Using the Restorative Justice Attitude Scale, data was collected from 14 staff members and 14 youth participants (N=28). Results indicated that staff members reported significantly higher mean scores (M = 84.50, SD = 8.38) on the Total Restorative Justice Attitude Scale than youth participants (M = 67.93, SD = 15.81). ANOVA results revealed statistically significant differences between the two groups on attitudes toward restorative justice, F (1, 26) = 12.007, p = .002. Effect size analysis (η² = .316) indicates that approximately 31.6% of the variance in restorative justice attitudes can be attributed to group differences. Significant differences were also found across domains such as empathy, harm recognition, accountability, and community engagement. These findings suggest that staff members hold significantly more favorable attitudes toward restorative justice approaches than youth, highlighting the need for targeted interventions to align perspectives and enhance youth engagement with RJ principles
Computationally Assessing the Specificity of Receptor Tyrosine Kinase Inhibitors
Receptor tyrosine kinases (RTKs) are vital to cell signaling processes such as growth, survival, and differentiation. Dysregulation through mutation or overexpression often contributes to cancer, making RTKs key therapeutic targets for tyrosine kinase inhibitors (TKIs). However, the low specificity of many TKIs leads to off-target effects. This project uses molecular docking to evaluate the binding affinities and selectivity of FDA-approved TKIs across 18 RTK subtypes. The dockings conducted revealed significant variability in binding affinities, with Sorafenib exhibiting strong specificity for EphB2 (-7.6 kcal/mol) and poor compatibility with EphA7 and ErbB4 (-3.0 kcal/mol). These findings underscore the role of specific molecular interactions, such as hydrogen bonding, in influencing inhibitor selectivity. Overall, the results provide insights into structural determinants of TKI specificity and lay a computational foundation for the rational development of next-generation, highly selective RTK inhibitors. Experimental validation will be essential to confirm these findings
Investigating the Effects of SOD1 Knockout on Oxidative Stress and Stress Coping Styles in Zebrafish Using CRISPR Technology
Reactive oxygen species are byproducts of cellular metabolism that, when not efficiently neutralized, can damage DNA, proteins, and lipids. Superoxide dismutase 1 (SOD1) is an antioxidant enzyme that converts superoxide radicals into less harmful molecules. While its molecular function is well documented, the role of SOD1 in shaping stress-related behavior remains underexplored. This project aimed to establish foundational tools for studying the behavioral impact of SOD1 knockout across proactive and reactive stress-coping styles in zebrafish.
To support future gene-editing experiments, microinjection and breeding protocols were refined across wildtype AB, proactive, and reactive zebrafish lines. No embryos were injected with CRISPR-Cas9 reagents due to limited availability of single-cell stage embryos, particularly in proactive and reactive strains. A total of 233 breeding attempts were conducted to determine optimal spawning conditions. Critical variables included strain type, sex ratio, pre-isolation period, egg collection timing, tank design, submersion duration, and minimizing disturbance. The most effective setup involved a 2:1 female-to-male ratio, four-day pre-isolation, and a custom-designed breeding chamber left submerged and undisturbed until the second morning. Eggs were detected using a borescope.
Microinjection techniques were validated using phenol red dye, and embryo survival was tracked across all strains. A total of 315 reactive, 850 proactive, and 1,641 wildtype embryos were assessed. Survival was slightly lower in injected groups compared to uninjected controls, but injection viability was confirmed. This study establishes a strain-sensitive breeding and injection protocol that lays essential groundwork for investigating how oxidative stress and behavioral phenotype interact to shape stress responses
