Understanding Age-Related Differences in Dentists\u27 Perceptions of Fluoride Use in the Midwest
Get PDFThis study examined age-related differences in dentists’ perceptions of fluoride use, effectiveness, and risks. Eight Midwest dentists (four early-career, four experienced) participated in interviews with demographic, quantitative, and open-ended questions. While all recognized fluoride’s importance, younger dentists emphasized its benefits and utilized it more themselves than older dentists, two of whom expressed concerns about fluoride exposure and fluorosis, a hypomineralization disorder that occurs during enamel development (Berg et al., 2011). One dentist cited potential neurological risks, including effects on the pineal gland and links to Alzheimer’s Disease. Despite these differences, all but one viewed fluoride as a cost-effective preventive measure of dental caries. Findings suggest that age, personal research, clinical experience, and concerns about long-term effects like fluorosis influence fluoride perceptions, underscoring the need for larger studies, particularly in states debating water fluoridation policies
Teaching Engaging Grammar Instruction in the High School English Classroom
Get PDFGrammar is a fundamental component in the content area of English Language Arts. Having a strong foundation in grammar is a critical stepping stone to writing clearly and communicating with success. Despite its importance, grammar is historically not the most engaging topic for high school students. My study, consisting of a seven week action plan involving the ninth graders in an English Language Arts classroom, sought to recognize this disengagement and work to combat it in order to improve students’ writing capabilities. More specifically, the purpose of my action research was to evaluate different grammar instructional strategies recommended in existing research literature: embedded grammar instruction, problem based instruction, and game-based grammatical learning. The results suggested that the use of these grammar instructional strategies had a positive effect on students’ mastery of certain grammar conventions. Specifically, the results suggested that the implementation of the grammar instructional strategies was associated with an increase in students’ usage of appropriate grammar conventions. This study is important to all English Language Arts teachers who want to teach students grammar in a meaningful and realistic way. With minor changes, the results of this study can be applicable to all grade levels in which grammar is a focal point

Get PDFDas Sprachenlernen ist eine Fähigkeit, die nicht nur dabei hilft, das Gedächtnis, die Aufmerksamkeit und die Entscheidungsfähigkeit zu verbessern, sondern auch Türen zu einer Vielzahl von Karrierewegen und Lebenserfahrungen öffnet. Das Nutzen des Sprachenlernens wird seit Jahren als eine entscheidende Lebenskompetenz von Wissenschaftlern unterstützt. Der Wert des Sprachenlernens wird im Lehrplan der US-Schulen jedoch nicht berücksichtigt. Die Frage ist: wie können Länder mehrsprachige Menschen erziehen? Wie unterscheiden sich diese Lehrpläne von denen in den USA? Wie kann das US-Bildungssystem das Fremdsprachenlernen besser fördern? Deutschland gehört zu den Ländern, die durch ihre Bildung zwei- und mehrsprachige Menschen ausbilden. Durch die Untersuchung von Sprachstatistiken, Lehrplänen und Sprachforderungen werden die Unterschiede in der Förderung und Betreuung von Sprachlernenden deutlich. Die Unterschiede zwischen den Voraussetzungen, dem Einführungsalter und der Dauer der Fremdsprachenkurse wirken sich auf die Einschreibungsquoten für Fremdsprachen in Deutschland und den USA aus. Nicht nur das sondern die großen Unterschiede zwischen der Einstellung und Motivation für das Erlernen einer Sprache haben auch einen Einfluss darauf. Durch diese akademische Forschung wird ein besseres Verständnis zur Ausbildung des Sprachenlernens erreicht
Exploring the Impact of PHPC on Career Awareness in Pre-Health Students
Get PDFAs Nebraska’s population over age 60 increases and shortages of 1.2 million nurses and 121,900 physicians are projected by 2030, there is an urgent need to develop the next generation of healthcare professionals. This study examines how the University of Nebraska at Omaha’s Pre- Health Professionals Club (PHPC), a pre-health student organization prepare students to address these workforce gaps through career exploration programming. The study consists of analyzation of existing evaluations from Omaha AHEC, and a new survey. Results demonstrate PHPC’s effectiveness based on four criteria: career confidence, awareness of healthcare career options, confirmation of career choices and overall program influence. These findings suggest clubs like PHPC help with career commitment and knowledge among pre-health students to address shortages
Capturing Care: A Visual Narrative on Caregivers at J.P Lord School
No full textThis project explores the emotional experiences of caregivers at J.P. Lord School, a unique program within the Omaha Public School district that serves children and young adults with complex special needs. As one of the few schools of its kind in the country, J.P. Lord offers a rare glimpse into the world of caregiving in a highly specialized educational setting (Omaha Public Schools, n.d). Despite the critical role these educators play, there is limited research exploring the emotional experiences of special education teachers—especially those working in medically complex or high-needs environments. This lack of visibility makes it even more important to share their stories and perspectives. Through analysis of interviews with educators and photographs, this study identified themes of emotional vulnerability, unexpected vocational journeys, and the lasting impact of student loss. The goal was to create space for caregivers to share their stories and shed light on the deeply human side of their work—work that often goes unseen and unrecognized
