Cameroon Could Do With Some Foreign Help to Solve Anglophone Crisis – But the State Doesn’t Want It
What began in late 2016 as a peaceful protest by lawyers and teachers in Cameroon’s North West and South West regions quickly turned violent and developed into what’s become known as Cameroon’s anglophone crisis. The protest was instigated by perceived marginalisation of Cameroon’s anglophone region, which makes up 20% of the nation’s 29 million people. The conflict has resulted in immense destruction and casualties. Cameroon’s military responded to the protest with arrests and torture. Voices that called for complete secession of the anglophone regions from the Republic of Cameroon gained momentum. They created a virtual Ambazonia Republic and an interim government in exile, and vowed to fight back. They formed a military wing, Ambazonia Self-Defence Force, which attacked and disrupted economic and social services in the region. As of October 2024, over 1.8 million people have needed humanitarian assistance. Over 584,000 have been internally displaced. Over 73,000 have become refugees in next-door Nigeria. The Magnificat: Gen Z Spill the T Version
As a group, we took multiple months to enact a vision Dr. Neomi De Anda, director of the International Marian Research Institute at the University of Dayton, had because of her research around chisme and spilling the T. The Spanish word chisme loosely translates as gossip in English, and the phrase “spilling the tea (or T)” is an American English slang phrase that means sharing gossip or revealing interesting news about someone.
While Gen Z has popularized this phrase in queer culture, specifically Black drag culture, the notion of the T is not simply a frivolous sharing of information, but a powerful form of sharing truths known by those who live in the margins.
Coming out of our conversations and work was a presentation at “Imago Dei: Embracing the Dignity of LGBTQ+ Persons,” an assembly in June, 2024, at the Bergamo Center in Dayton, Ohio, which was a celebratory event hosted by the Marianist Social Justice Collaborative LGBTQ+ Initiative on the 50th anniversary of “The Gay Christian,” a conference in 1974, which was also held at the Bergamo Center, as a national meeting for training clergy and laity on developing a ministry to gay Christians

Axillary Web Syndrome (AWS) in Absence of Breast Cancer History or Surgery: A Case Report
Background: Axillary web syndrome (AWS) is a complication of breast cancer surgery with axillary lymph node removal. Cords are found within 2 weeks post-surgery in the axillary area of the operated side, and many extend down the arm or into the lateral chest wall. The purpose of this report is to present a unique case of idiopathic AWS, and to increase awareness of non-cancer related AWS in the medical community.
Case Description: A 39-year-old healthy female presented to physiotherapy with a 2-week history of a palpable tight cord in her left axilla without history of cancer or surgery. She sought emergency medical care without a definitive diagnosis. She performed an internet search and found that AWS matched her symptoms and she scheduled a physiotherapy appointment.
Assessment and Treatment: The physiotherapist confirmed that symptoms matched AWS, due to a visible axillary cord and loss of shoulder range. Treatment lasted 5-weeks, consisting of AWS education, myofascial pin-and-stretch techniques, home stretching, and graduated strengthening. At discharge, full range had been restored. A slight cord was palpable at this time, though function was no longer affected. Two weeks later the patient reported complete cord resolution.
Discussion: This individual responded well to physiotherapy interventions commonly used in AWS presentations and has had no recurrence at time of writing. Idiopathic AWS is likely more common than what is observed in the literature. AWS is generally under-recognized and would benefit from communication and collaboration between health professionals so people may find timely diagnosis and care in future
Space Food for Thought
For my two podcast episodes Space Food for Thought I had a few phases of development. I started by compiling a few ideas through researching various aspects of food in space. After doing initial research I narrowed my focus to two main subjects: space food from the past and the potential future of food in space. From here more research followed as I began to develop my script. It is here that I began to find sound-effects and reliable sources. Once the scripts were completed, I had a session of peer review to get the scripts in the best possible state. With the scripts done recording occurred followed by editing. The editing process took the longest time to get just right. Overall, the process was not only educational; it allowed me to grow as a writer and a scholar through a medium that I have never used before
Beyond Pink and Blue: Rethinking Gendered Parental Roles
The writing process for this project required a lot of creative thinking and research, as I aimed to create a detailed and unique addition to the conversation surrounding gendered parental roles. I started by thinking of my own personal experiences with the issue, which served as a spark for the direction I chose to take my paper. I then went on to sort through prior research on the subject, choosing sources that best aligned with my vision for the project. To take the project a step further, I then conducted and inserted my own research, which involved a personal interview with two current parents. My goal throughout this process has been to develop a well-supported argument that challenges the idea of gendered parental roles and to contribute to an ongoing conversation among other researchers

Soft Tissue Mobilization Is More Effective Than Self-Stretching in Reducing Common Wrist Extensor Tendon Stiffness in Recreational Tennis Players
Purpose/Hypothesis: Increased muscle and tendon stiffness plays a role in the development of musculoskeletal pathologies. A number of interventions have been proposed to temporarily reduce muscle/tendon stiffness including soft tissue mobilization (STM) techniques and stretching. The purpose of this study was to investigate the immediate and short-term effects of STM versus self-stretching on common extensor tendon (CET) stiffness in a group of recreational tennis players.
Subjects: Healthy recreational tennis players
Materials/Methods: Stiffness, measured with the shear wave modulus in kilopascals (kPa), was obtained at rest on the dominant CET using 2D ultrasound imaging shear wave elastography (SWE) (GE Logiq S8, 9L, linear transducer). A second stiffness measure was taken 5 minutes after the first measure to determine intra-rater reliability. Participants were then randomly assigned to a treatment group (STM or self-stretching). Stiffness measures were taken immediately after treatment for both groups and following a 15-minute rest. For each data collection, 4 measures were taken and averaged for a single data point. Within examiner intraclass correlation coefficients (ICC (3, 1)) with 95% confidence intervals were calculated. A repeated measures ANOVA using one between variable group (STM or stretching) and one within variable group (initial, post-treatment, and 15 minutes post-treatment)) was used in the main analysis. Significance was set at p ≤ 0.05 with a Bonferroni correction.
Results: Thirty-two participants (12 male/20 female, mean age =54.4± 13.8yr) were randomized into the STM (n=16) or stretching group (n=16). There were no group differences in body mass index, age, frequency of play, or shoulder activity levels (p\u3e.10). The within day intra-rater reliability was excellent (ICC = .98 (95%CI = .95-.99)), minimal detectable change 10.9 (95%CI 21.4) kPa. There was no main effect for group or time, but there was a significant interaction between time and group (p = .015). For the STM group, there were significant decreases in tendon stiffness between rest and post treatment and between rest and 15 minutes post treatment (p≤.007, mean change ≥ -47.59kPA). For the STM group, no significant differences in stiffness existed between the post treatment and 15 minutes post treatment. The change in CET stiffness between rest and post treatment as well as between rest and 15 minutes post-treatment was significantly greater for the STM group compared to the self-stretching group (p≤.013), mean change ≥ -39.64kPA.
Conclusion: STM of the CET significantly decreased the resting tendon stiffness immediately after treatment and these changes were significantly different from the group that received stretching. The resting tendon stiffness remained diminished 15 minutes after the soft tissue technique was applied.
Clinical Relevance: Clinicians may consider STM techniques over self-stretching for the purpose of maintaining soft tissue stiffness balance in healthy recreational tennis players.https://ecommons.udayton.edu/dpt_symposium/1048/thumbnail.jp
