    Symposium: Gender, Health, and the Constitution: Gender-Affirming Care and Children\u27s Liberty

    This essay addresses the wave of statutes banning gender-affirming care for transgender and gender-diverse minors passed in states across the country over the last three years. It argues that an underdeveloped understanding of children’s rights makes it more difficult to explain how harmful gender-affirming care bans are and to challenge them in court. After explaining the nature of gender-affirming care, the essay discusses the grounds underlying existing challenges to gender-affirming care bans, highlighting the emphasis on equal protection and parental rights. It concludes by reframing the children’s liberty argument and exploring what the broader consequences of courts recognizing such a right would be

    Imagining the Future of Records Management: An Analysis of the SRIKANDI in Indonesia through Documentation Studies

    The SRIKANDI application, a cornerstone of Indonesia\u27s digital records management initiative, embodies the nation\u27s commitment to modernizing governance through electronic systems. This study employs Niels Windfeld Lund’s Complementary Documentation Analysis Model to dissect SRIKANDI\u27S evolution (diachronic analysis) and its current state (synchronic analysis), offering a comprehensive understanding of its role in Indonesia\u27s e-government landscape. Diachronically, SRIKANDI\u27S development reflects a strategic shift from fragmented, standalone applications towards a unified, interoperable platform, as mandated by Presidential Regulation No. 95 of 2018. This transition aims to streamline government processes, reduce redundancy, and enhance budget efficiency. Synchronically, SRIKANDI is evaluated as a digital platform facilitating efficient records management, yet it faces challenges such as low user engagement, technical issues, and institutional resistance. Despite being adopted by numerous government institutions, only a fraction of users actively engage with the system, indicating systemic barriers beyond technical difficulties. The study underscores the importance of addressing these challenges through improved infrastructure, user engagement strategies, and inter-agency coordination. By viewing SRIKANDI through the lens of complementary documentation, this research highlights its multifaceted nature—physically as a digital platform, conceptually as a modernization tool, and socially as a collaborative instrument. As Indonesia advances towards a smart, paperless administration, SRIKANDI\u27S success is pivotal in achieving sustainable records management and supporting the broader vision of a digitally integrated governance model. Future research should focus on user experiences and institutional responses to drive ongoing improvements, ensuring SRIKANDI\u27S role as a catalyst for digital transformation in Indonesia

    Application of Conductivity Techniques for Interlayer Discontinuity Detection in Additively Manufactured Metal Materials

    Additive manufacturing is becoming increasingly more popular and efficient. One drawback is the possibility of interlayer discontinuities forming in the material. A non-destructive technique utilizing the changing resistivity of the material as discontinuities appear was used to detect those discontinuities and was verified through additional testing of manually added through-thickness discontinuities. This technique has been proven to be useful in understanding fatigue crack growth of conventional metal and composite structures. Experimental investigation of fatigue in steel with an edge notch has been performed using these techniques to understand source and location of crack formation and growth in conventional material. Application of this technique on additively manufactured metal structures will cut quality assurance costs and help improve 3D printing technology by pinpointing errors

    Entertaining and Embracing Professional Identity Development in the 1l Legal Writing Curriculum

    Because of their already heavy workload, legal writing faculty sometimes resist taking on new curricular responsibilities, including calls to incorporate ethics and professionalism training in the first-year legal writing curriculum. But the ABA now requires law schools to provide students with opportunities to develop their professional identities throughout their time in law school. This requirement means that faculty will need to add professional identity development to their courses. Rather than resist this change, first-year legal writing faculty should embrace the opportunity by using the Model Rules of Professional Conduct to incorporate concepts of ethics and professionalism in their first-year courses. Legal writing faculty can use the Model Rules to incorporate professional identity development into their courses without making significant changes to the content or structure of their courses. Further, the cases where lawyers are disciplined or sanctioned for violating the Rules of Professional Conduct often involve absurd and entertaining facts—which make for interesting class discussion. Using the Model Rules to incorporate professional identity development in the first-year legal writing curriculum benefits students in at least two ways. It helps them in their first summer employment by exposing them to the ethical obligations of lawyers—something that they usually do not learn until they take Professional Responsibility in their second or third year of law school. It also helps them in their Professional Responsibility course because they have begun to learn how ethical rules work in the daily practice of law. This Article offers a definition of professional identity and explains why the requirement to provide opportunities for professional identity development across the curriculum renders objections to taking on this curricular responsibility largely irrelevant. This Article calls on first-year legal writing faculty to be leaders in professional identity development and offers a proposal for how they can use the Model Rules of Professional Conduct to introduce ethics and professionalism in the first-year legal writing curriculum in an interesting and entertaining way

    This study presents a longitudinal analysis of the ethical reflections and evolving professional aspirations of students in the Information Profession course at Universitas Indonesia. Through reflective writing exercises, 192 students explored their future career goals and addressed ethical challenges related to professional documentation, focusing on issues such as privacy, integrity, and responsibility. Using corpus analysis tools like AntConc, the research tracked changes in ethical concerns as students progressed in their studies, revealing an increasing awareness of ethical complexities, particularly in roles like archivist and data analyst. These findings offer valuable insights for developing profession-specific ethical guidelines for information professionals

The Original Creation and Transfer test promotes judicial economy, clarity, and predictability. It also has the advantages of a property rule, namely encouraging investment, reducing litigation, and allowing employee mobility. This test achieves the proper balance between worker and employer rights and yields fair results in test cases. Additionally, a uniform law should be created based on the Original Creation and Transfer test to help promote uniformity across jurisdictions

    Autonomous Basketball Court Creation Robot

    The Autonomous Basketball Court Outlining System presents a comprehensive solution for precision court marking. Powered by a 24V lithium-ion battery and driven by a single ST microcontroller, the system autonomously marks the outline of a half basketball court using predefined algorithms. User-friendly features include easy loading of marking material, actuated by gravity or a small servo motor depending on material of choice, ensuring intuitive operation. Safety is prioritized, with the servo motor eliminating high-pressure concerns, and the system maintains a controlled speed accounting for user well-being. Two step and direction servo motors enable accurate linear displacement, facilitating straight lines, and continuous arcs. Distance measurement and user feedback are achieved through encoder feedback. The system\u27s efficient operation allows completion within a full battery charge, offering up to 50 minutes of runtime.     Mitigating Cyber Espionage: A Network Security Strategy Using Notifications

    Network security and its mitigation of cyber espionage is paramount to the confidentiality, integrity, and availability of data within the intelligence field. With the advancing efficacy of social engineering to execute cyber espionage attacks, further measures and fail-safe mechanisms have become necessary. If a malicious actor successfully penetrates the network, suspending confidential data transmissions over the compromised network becomes crucial. However, connected users need a platform to receive security notifications and, therefore, need to know that their continued network use compromises more data. This project eliminates this by achieving two primary objectives: designing a multi- layered, hardened, and segmented network environment and providing a fail-safe notification alert mechanism that informs all users that their network is compromised. This network security strategy designs and hardens a network and implements intrusion detection, prevention, and response through a security information and event management system (SIEM). This project integrates the SIEM alerts into Microsoft Teams to give centralized, accessible notifications to all network users. By executing various cyber attacks, this project finds the notification alert mechanism successful in providing network users with automatic, real-time notifications about the attack that instruct users to suspend network transmissions
