    The Effects of Ethanol Exposure on Glucose and Lactate Levels in Crayfish

    The goal of the project is to investigate and determine the effects of sunlight exposure and hormone levels. The circadian rhyth, which is heavily influenced by sunlight, not only affects the amount of sleep someone achieves, but is also related to behavior and mood, and heavily relies on the body’s hormones for proper regulation. The hormones that are prevelant to the circadian rhythm, and which will be studied in this experiment are cortisol, serotonin and melatonin. In this experiment, these three hormones will be extracted prior to alterations of light exposure. Animal test subjects will then undergo treatment of light exposure that differs from natural light patterns. Following treatment for one week, hormones will be extracted for comparison to the levels initially recorded prior to treatment

I conducted a literature review with the specific research question How does a company\u27s policy on workplace monitoring, surveillance, and tracking affect employees\u27 or potential candidates\u27 view on working for the company? . I discuss four scholarly articles and the implications they have on how electronic performance monitoring (EPM) systems are perceived in the workplace

    Compliance and Roughness in Relation to Gecko Locomotion

    Geckos move efficiently through a variety of substrates, from swaying branches to wooden fences to the sides of structures. Previous studies have studied locomotion and adhesion on manmade and rough substrates; however, the work is limited when discussing locomotion and adhesion as a relationship of compliance and roughness. Ease of movement was quantified by speed, under the assumption that the faster a gecko moves, the easier it is for the gecko to cross the substrate. Gehyra oceanica geckos from Moorea, French Polynesia were tested on substrates varying in compliance and roughness with four different treatments in total. Compliance, roughness, and the combination of compliance and roughness all have significant effects on a gecko’s speed. However, the highest speeds were reached on the smooth substrate with the most compliance (500g smooth). This was an interesting result, as we hypothesized that geckos would struggle the most with this treatment based on previous studies concerning the morphology of their toe pads. Snout-vent length (SVL) was also collected and had no significant correlation to a gecko’s speed on compliant substrates, regardless of roughness.     Phototaxis in the Terrestrial Isopod: A Mechanism for Investigating Invertebrate Learning and Memory

    Isopods readily explore new environments and typically prefer contexts with lower levels of illumination (i.e., negative phototaxis). In the first of two behavioral experiments reported here, the ability of isopods to discriminate between light and dark nesting regions was confirmed, although evidence suggests an initial ‘instinctive’ draw toward a darker context. Extending these findings to experiment 2, isopods were trained against their negatively phototaxic tendency and had to exit a darkened start chamber in order to locate nesting material in a brighter chamber. Within-session improvements in latency to enter the nesting region were noted across training trials, coupled with evidence of somewhat better memory for the light-dark discrimination on probe tests taken immediately after training relative to probe tests taken over retention delays of 1-2 days, 5 days, and 12 days. Results are discussed within a Tinbergen-based ethological framework, and offer points of future integration of information processing perspectives with instinctive perspectives of behavior using an evolutionarily ‘old’ yet readily available species

    This research study will examine the differences in cardiorespiratory response of trained vs untrained physically active collegiate athletes participating in the sport of Competitive Rifle. The goal of this study is to determine how the heart and lungs respond from participation in Competitive Rifle with division one collegiate and intercollegiate club athletes. If successful, this study will help to determine a correlation of athletic performance in the sport of Competitive Rifle and structured physical training. We will also compare the results of males vs females within both division one and club athletes. The final output of this project is to add to the knowledge of the Sport of Competitive Rifle through determining the impact that structured physical training has on athlete performance. If successful, this project will assist in determining the effects on heart rate and respiration rate on “trained” vs “untrained” collegiate competitive riffle athletes. . This project will also help to gain practical experience of conducting research in athletic fields and the field of Exercise Science. Finally in regards to physical training as it pertains to the sport of rifle, this study will help to prove how important physical activity is for rifle and similar low-movement sports

    Designing a Multimedia Documentary Device for Research-Intervention through Co-design: The Case of the Innovation Labs Observatory

    We propose to explore the modalities and problematics of the co-design of a multimedia device documentary. The project “Innovation Labs Observatory,” led by the Conservatoire National des Arts et Métiers (CNAM) and the collective Codesign-it!, explores a new way of doing intervention-research by designing a website for the diffusion of multimedia documents and for the documentation during the project. In addition to giving access to different types of co-designed documents (texts, podcasts, videos, pictures…), this website can also be considered as a new form of material for the research in progress. Here, we present the way we used to proceed for the design and the exploitation of this info-communicational dispositive in a research-intervention process
