    ISIS, a Salafi-jihadist terrorist organization stationed in the Middle East, has had its fair share of successes and failures, both of which have been present in Iraq. Toward the beginning of the development of ISIS, it garnered a very powerful supporter base in Iraq. However, that has changed since then; ISIS currently, in 2024, no longer has the support of the vast majority of the Iraqi people. What is the reason for this? This research paper will seek to analyze and answer two major questions: what role does the Iraqi Sunni population play in ISIS’s trajectory of successes and failures in Iraq? And why would the Iraq Sunni population support ISIS in the first place

    Climate change is a concerning subject that more and more people are beginning to care about. The climate crisis is continuing to affect populations across the globe and shows no signs of slowing. While everyone has been affected by climate change in some capacity, the climate crisis disproportionately affects low-income communities around the world and, specifically, within the United States. I plan to research the ethics of the relationship between climate change and the class system and the goal o f this project is to prove the claim that the class system is the reason for climate change\u27s disproportionate effect on lower income populations, specifically those in the United States

    Grace House Akron Volunteer Information and Training Kit

    Grace House Akron is a non-profit organization that provides housing and care to people on hospice who are homeless, living in indignant conditions, or do not have an able and/or willing caregiver. Over the course of Grace House’s first year in operation, they have worked alongside over 200 volunteers. Now, they are seeking to expand the demographic makeup of these volunteers. The objective of this project is to create a deliverable volunteer kit that will include 4 sections: Introduction, In-House Volunteering, Out-of-House Volunteering, and Reference Materials. This kit will streamline the process of onboarding volunteers by introducing them to the organization and the roles that are available for volunteers. This will free up time and resources for Grace House to focus on other endeavors

    Schaeffler E-Axle Value Engineering

    This project aims to design a manufacturable E-Axle end housing that improves system performance while reducing cost. The project is focused on utilizing Schaeffler\u27s manufacturing competencies to achieve a simple assembly with a significant reduction in cost per part, while using existing machines or processes within the company. The design development process will follow the conceptual design stage through Finite Element Analysis and classical engineering calculations. Cross-functional design reviews will be conducted to ensure that agreement can be reached on the manufacturing feasibility of the design. Concepts will be entered in a decision analysis sheet to identify the best one for further investigation. Overall, the Honors Research Project will serve as an experience to understand the design development process, and its applications in the curriculum

    Nursing Students’ Comfort in the Nursing Program

    This research project’s purpose is to investigate student nurses’ comfort levels within the nursing program. The project focuses on how interactions with RNs impact comfort levels of nursing students. These interactions take place within the student nurses’ clinical experiences or their experiences at their healthcare jobs. The sample was sophomore, junior, and senior-level undergraduate BSN students at The University of Akron, which is about 434 students. The number of participants that completed the survey was 57 nursing students. The independent variables were student level in the BSN program and current employment status in a patient care role. The dependent variable was the students’ degree of comfort in their student nurse career. To measure these variables, Dr. Kathy Kolcaba’s “General Comfort Questionnaire” was used based on her Theory of Comfort. These students were asked to complete the modified survey, and the results were analyzed through a correlation coefficient based on the descriptive statistics received through the survey. The results showed that students who work in healthcare had a higher comfort level within the nursing field

    Children\u27s Hospital Animatronic

    This senior project explores the development of a pediatric-oriented animatronic designed to enhance the hospital experience for children. Recognizing the importance of alleviating the anxiety and fear that often accompany hospital visits, the project focuses on creating an engaging and interactive companion to soothe children. Key components of this project include: Creative Design: The animatronic character\u27s design prioritizes child-friendliness, employing research into child psychology and preferences to ensure an appealing and approachable aesthetic. Electrical and Mechanical Engineering: A robust mechanical and electronic system was engineered to enable lifelike movements, gestures, and responses. Interactive Features: A simple, user-friendly app will be available for patients, hospital employees and volunteers to use. The app will allow users to select pre-programmed responses and behaviors for the animatronic to exhibit. This project presents a promising solution to enhance the pediatric hospital experience, providing companionship and enrichment for patients. Future work may focus on further refinements, expanded capabilities, and long-term impact assessment. Ultimately, this animatronic offers a valuable tool for compassionate pediatric care in hospitals

    Zips Racing Electric Brakes Design

    The Zips electric racing team is a collegiate team full of engineering students to make a formula electric car that competes against other universities and their cars. But before the cars make it to competition they go through a series of tests to make sure the car is able to perform in all of the actual competition stages. One of the tests for the cars is the brakes test. Where the car has to lock up all four wheels at once and stop in a square that is on the ground. So in this report we have detailed out our redesign of the brake system in the formula one car. The brake system consists of the rotors, pedals, brake pads, and brake lines. This design was based on all of the rules and requirements of the FSAE competitions
