Balancing academics and athletics: investigating the interrelationship of learning and communication styles among SUKMA student-athletes with a gender-based analysis / Nur Alya Natasha Mohd Nazeri and Radzliyana Radzuwan

    No full text
Student-athletes face unique challenges in balancing academic and athletic responsibilities, requiring effective learning and communication strategies. Learning styles represent the varied approaches or methods individuals prefer for absorbing, processing, and retaining new information [1]. Some students are visual learners, while others are auditory or kinesthetic learners. Visual learners learn visually using charts, graphs, and pictures. Auditory learners learn by listening to lectures and reading. Kinesthetic learners learn by doing physical activity. Students can prefer one, two, or three learning styles [2]. Students who know their learning styles will be able to find out their weaknesses and strengths so they can design learning strategies and can evaluate ways of learning [3]. Understanding their learning styles can help improve their academic performance, while communication styles influence interactions in both educational and sports settings. This study investigates the preferred learning and communication styles of SUKMA student-athletes and examines the relationship between these variables. Additionally, it explores gender-based differences in learning preferences

The demand for the activated adsorbent have been increasing because of its adsorption applications that are good for wastewater treatment, gas filtration. Because of this, There have been searching for alternative raw materials that can be cost effective and sustainable to produce activated adsorbents. Clam shells which are mostly rich in calcium carbonate (CaCO3) usually always discarded as waste where it can give some affect the environment because they are not biodegradable which means it would take a long time for it to decompose. This study are made to see whether it can turn clam shells into activated adsorbents through chemical impregnation method with Sodium Hydroxide (NaOH) as the activation agent at different temperatures, 600C and 700C Then the samples of the clam shell powder were characterized using X-Ray Diffraction (XRD), Elemental Analyzer (EA), Proximate Analysis and Microscopic Imaging to check for the composition and structure of the clam shells. The result shows that the activated adsorbent have high ash content (96%) which shows that it high in inorganic material. EA also shows that the clam shells are also low in carbon content which means that the activated adsorbent are mainly made out of other materials. XRD data on the impregnated clam shell powder at 600C also able to confirm that the activated adsorbents from clam shells are primarily made out of calcium carbonate (CaCO3) as the peaks for calcium carbonate has shown a lot of similarity with the data. Microscopic imaging have also showed changes happen on the surface of the clam shell between raw, 600C and 700C of the clam shells. Where the 700C has shown a lot changes on the surface area, the pore structure looks more detailed These result shows that activated adsorbent from clam shells can be used as a sustainable alternative for activated adsorbents

Developing critical skills in the age of information overload: techniques for helping students sift through vast amounts of information online / Noorliza Zainol ... [et al.].

    No full text
Critical thinking, defined as the ability to actively and skilfully conceptualize, apply, analyse, synthesize, and evaluate information to make reasoned judgments, is a vital skill for students in this digital milieu. The explosion of digital information has transformed how students access knowledge, forming both opportunities and challenges in education. With the rapid proliferation of digital content, students face a constant influx of information such as access to a vast knowledge repository. Students encounter an overwhelming quantity of data, making it difficult to process and evaluate, leading to what is commonly referred to as "information overload”. Information overload can impede students’ critical thinking ability, as they struggle to discern reliable and relevant information from unreliable sources. Nevertheless, without proper control, with the propagation of online data, half-truth, and biased content, educators face the challenge of preparing students to filter through this massive information landscape

Sleep is essential for health, well-being, and productivity, particularly among young adults entering the workforce. This study investigated the role of sleep hygiene and social rhythm as predictors of sleep quality, emphasizing implications for daily productivity among young adults in Malaysia. A longitudinal survey was conducted with 113 participants who completed either paper-based or online diaries. Participants provided demographic information and responded to the Insomnia Severity Index (ISI), Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index (PSQI), Sleep Hygiene Inventory (SHI), Social Rhythm Metric (SRM II-5), Consensus Sleep Diary (CSD), and Stanford Sleepiness Scale (SSS). Participants generally demonstrated good sleep hygiene (M = 12.52; SD = 6.70) and above-average social rhythm (M = 4.78; SD = 1.62). The majority were classified as good sleepers, with a mean PSQI score of 4.29 (SD = 2.44), diary-reported sleep quality (M = 3.52, SD = .38), total sleep time (M = 7 hours 7 minutes, SD = 54 minutes), and sleep efficiency (M = 86.61%, SD = 7.19%). Sleep hygiene showed a significant positive correlation with PSQI-measured sleep quality but was not significantly correlated with diary-reported sleep quality. Regression analysis demonstrated that sleep hygiene was a stronger predictor of overall sleep quality (β = .69, t(110) = 8.38, p < .001), while social rhythm significantly predicted sleep efficiency (β = .33, t(110) = 3.17, p < .002). These findings highlight the importance of healthy sleep habits and regular daily routines in enhancing sleep quality, and potentially improving productivity among young professionals. Future research should explore these relationships in diverse populations to further substantiate generalisability and practical applications for workplace productivity enhancement
