Experimental investigation of hydrogel-based passive cooling for battery thermal management in EV applications / Muhammad Aiman Shafiq Abdul Rahman ... [et al.]
The growing adoption of electric vehicles (EVs) has necessitated the efficient and energy-saving battery thermal management systems (BTMS) in the market. The operation of lithium-ion batteries creates a lot of heat, and prolonged exposure leads to performance degradation and raises a safety risk. Although active cooling techniques work, they take additional energy and decrease driving distance. This work investigates the performance of a passive cooling technique based on hydrogel layers for 12V prismatic LiFePO₄ batteries. A test rig was built to simulate and measure two scenarios: air-cooled and hydrogels to air-cooled. The hydrogel-based system was shown to bring down the maximum temperature of the battery to 30.0°C versus a temperature of 35.8°C observed in the absence of hydrogel, suggesting a better thermal regulation without any additional power

Design explorations on the brake force distributions of a motorbike / M. Hisyam Basri ... [et al.]
The braking system is crucial for motorbike safety, as effective braking ensures both deceleration and stability. This study investigates the influence of the deceleration rate and the combined biker and pillion load on the optimal distribution of the braking force of a motorbike. A full factorial experimental design was employed using Altair HyperStudy to evaluate the influence of key parameters on braking-force distribution. The study considered three design factors: deceleration (0.1 g, 0.55 g, and 1.0 g), biker mass (50 kg, 75 kg, and 100 kg), and pillion mass (0 kg, 50 kg, and 100 kg). Results indicated a significant positive linear relationship between these parameters and brake forces, with deceleration as the most influential factor. An increase in deceleration resulted in a substantial rise in front brake force, up to 1753.22 N, while biker and pillion masses increased front brake force by 241.22 N and 350.69 N, respectively. Interaction effects revealed that the deceleration, in combination with the pillion load, produced a front brake force of 2226.64 N at 1g deceleration, while biker interaction resulted in 2091.47 N. For rear brake force, deceleration and pillion interaction yielded 64.28 N, highlighting its sensitivity to pillion at higher decelerations. Analysis of Variance (ANOVA) confirmed the statistical significance of all parameters, emphasizing deceleration as critical. Optimal brake force distribution relies on deceleration, necessitating balanced braking to enhance efficiency and safety, achievable through synchronized braking mechanisms like the Concurrent Brake Actuator (CBA)

Structure design and analysis of re engineering the traditional Malay boat construction with new materials for tourism / Ahmad Nadzhirul Azfar Ngah
The project aims to introduce modern materials to the redesign of the traditional Malay boat while retaining its cultural identity toward a more effective use in tourism. Built with cengal wood, the craft suffers from degeneration of its construction material, low durability, and lack of skilled carpenters. All these factors severely undercut their viability under modern circumstances. No falling construction standards further undermine the safety and reliability of these boats. The present study provides a solution-replacing cengal wood with glass-fiber-reinforced polymer, a material commonly used in other advanced industries, which has an ultimate factor of safety in the range of two to three given its high strength, durability, and a good degree of structural stability. The project entails the boat frame structure's design following GRP Construction Standards and structural analysis for performance evaluation. Calculations on buoyancy, weight of the hull, load distribution, bending moment, shear force, and factors of safety will be made to ascertain the modern safety and performance levels of the vessel. The GRP shows a significant improvement in the strength of the boat, stability, and efficiency as a material. While this research attests to the possibility of a material transition, future opportunities should be taken to further perfect this approach in the selection of materials, computational analysis, and structural optimization. Research down the line may look into the material integration of aluminum alloys, fiber-reinforced plastics, advanced structural analysis methods for optimal load transfer and safety and involve local artisans to develop the traditional aesthetics of the vessel with performance requirements

Accounting for the gig economy in Malaysia: challenges and opportunities / Salwa Muda ... [et al.]
The gig economy has emerged as a vital component of Malaysia’s labor market, driven by technological advancements and the increasing prevalence of digital platforms such as Grab, Foodpanda, and Shopee. These platforms offer flexible work opportunities, allowing individuals to earn income outside traditional employment structures. Between 2016 and 2021, Malaysia saw a substantial rise in gig workers and digital platforms, contributing not only to workforce dynamism but also to economic growth. The World Bank’s "Informal Employment in Malaysia" report (2024) highlights how gig platforms became a lifeline for many Malaysians during the COVID-19 pandemic. The number of workers using eRezeki, a platform for digital jobs, more than doubled from 333,130 in 2019 to 699,517 in 2020. This rapid growth, especially in location-based gig work, helped many people sustain their income during tough times. Physical gig activities, like food delivery services, dominate the market compared to digital gig tasks, such as freelance graphic design or online tutoring. The pandemic accelerated demand for online services, giving rise to local digital platforms and creating more earning opportunities. Despite these advancements, challenges remain. Gig workers often face issues such as the lack of social protection, the absence of formal employment contracts, and inadequate regulatory frameworks to safeguard their interests (Ahmad Nawawi et al., 2023). As more Malaysians turn to gig work for their livelihood, accounting practices must evolve to meet the unique demands of this growing workforce

Musical instrument identification using Convolutional Neural Network (CNN) algorithm / Muhammad Nur Azri Irfan Abdul Rahman
The motivation behind the project was to help automate the cumbersome task of validating instruments from images using Convolutional Neural Network (CNNs) algorithm to identify the musical instrument so that this task could be completed with higher accuracy. This approach tried to overcome the limitations of the manual method and traditional algorithm, which tends to fail with the diverse dataset, diverse visual features, and scalability. The methodology followed a structured three-phase process: The first stage was the collection of a dataset of 5,099 images of 30 different musical instruments of Kaggle, providing variable lighting, angles, or backgrounds, along with preprocessing to standardize the inputs. In the development phase, Convolutional Neural Network model was designed and trained using sophisticated techniques of data augmentation, dropping out and hyperparameter tuning under the supervised learning methodology to increase the performance of the system. Finally, the rigor of evaluation phase is carried out to evaluate the model utilizing precision, recall, F1 score, and the overall accuracy metrics which ascertained robustness and reliability for the model
Video games recommendation system using collaborative filtering / Tuan Ahmad Wafiq Tuan Mahmud
The video game recommendation system developed in this project addresses the challenge of game discovery due to the vast selection available on platforms such as Steam, Epic Games, and Ubisoft. With over 73,000 games on Steam, gamers struggle to find titles that align with their interests, particularly since many platforms lack built- in recommender systems and lesser-known games receive minimal exposure. To solve this, the system utilizes collaborative filtering with Non-Negative Matrix Factorization (NMF) to analyze user preferences and provide personalized recommendations. The system was built using a dataset from Kaggle with 200,000 records, including user interactions, playtime, and ratings. Through data preprocessing and filtering, the model ensures accurate recommendations while continuously adapting to evolving user behaviors. Performance evaluation metrics, including Root Mean Squared Error (RMSE), Mean Absolute Error (MAE), and Recall@5, validate the system's effectiveness, demonstrating superior accuracy compared to existing approaches. The results show that NMF-based recommendations significantly improve game relevance and user satisfaction while helping game developers increase the visibility of lesser- known titles. Despite its success, limitations such as the cold-start problem, data sparsity, and computational constraints remain challenges, potentially affecting recommendation accuracy for new users. To enhance the system, future improvements include integrating content-based filtering, expanding datasets, optimizing model training, and leveraging cloud computing for better scalability and real-time recommendations. Additionally, incorporating hybrid recommendation techniques and real-time user feedback could further refine accuracy and relevance, ensuring users receive high-quality suggestions based on their evolving preferences. By improving game discoverability, enhancing user engagement, and providing a scalable solution for other domains requiring personalized recommendations, this project makes a valuable contribution to the field of recommendation systems, benefiting both players and developers in the gaming industry
