Six-Shooter & Sorcery
This game is a roguelite where skill matters more than luck. Most games like this depend on random upgrades to win, but here you win by learning the combat system. You switch between three elements, fire, water, and lightning, to hit enemy weaknesses. Each enemy is strong against one element and weak against another, like rock-paper-scissors.The fighting is fast but fair. You need to dodge attacks, time your reloads, and quickly switch to the right element. There are no overpowered random items, it\u27s just your skill with these three elements. The levels are different each time, but the core combat stays balanced. This game is for people who are looking for a challenge and who appreciate having their reaction time and on-the-fly thinking tested
Sudoku Solver with AI
The goal of this project is to analyze how different algorithms perform in solving Sudoku puzzles and to determine which approach is most suitable. The motivation behind the project stems from my personal weakness in working with AI algorithms. By engaging with this topic hands-on, I aim to improve my understanding of how various algorithms work and how they compare.
The project is implemented using Python for the backend and PyQt6 for the frontend. To evaluate the algorithms, I measure the time each one takes to solve a Sudoku puzzle. The collected data will serve as the basis for comparing the performance and suitability of the algorithms.
By the end of the project, I aim to identify which algorithm is best suited for solving Sudoku puzzles and why. This project combines practical application with theoretical analysis and supports my goal of gaining deeper insight into AI algorithms
Aspiration to Achievement: A Mixed Methods Study of Post-Secondary Access for FirstGeneration College Students
This mixed-methods study examines the effectiveness of Destination Diploma, a community-based post-secondary access program, in supporting the college readiness, enrollment, persistence, and completion of first-generation college students (FGCS). Grounded in Social Capital Theory, the study explores how structured support systems—such as mentorship, academic coaching, and financial aid navigation—enhance educational outcomes for students historically underrepresented in higher education. Quantitative data from 2014 to 2024 was analyzed to assess post-secondary placement and completion rates, while qualitative data from semi-structured interviews with former program participants provided insight into the lived experiences and perceived impact of the program. Findings demonstrate that Destination Diploma plays a critical role in reducing barriers related to college preparedness and social capital, offering a replicable model for institutions and nonprofit organizations seeking to close equity gaps. The results contribute to the broader discourse on educational equity and inform policy and practice aimed at improving post-secondary attainment for first-generation college students
What\u27s My Research? with Joe Harrison and Kris Himmerick
Please join us on Thursday, November 14th, from noon to 1 pm in the Yosemite Classroom (1st floor of the Library) for “What’s My Research?” featuring Dr. Joe Harrison (Chemistry) and Dr. Kris Himmerick (School of Health Sciences).
Dr. Harrison will cover current advances in the protein engineering field, including a description of the 2024 Nobel Prize in Chemistry. Then he will discuss projects in his lab and describe how they are engineering proteins with new functions.
Dr. Himmerick will be speaking on The Republic of Ireland and how they are experiencing physician shortages and unprecedented patient wait times. Physician Assistants/Associates (PAs) have been proposed as a part of the solution. In support of this health workforce strategy, the Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland (RCSI) initiated the first physician associate master’s program in Ireland in 2016.2 Understanding the integration of PAs into healthcare teams is crucial to the future success of PAs in the country. This study aims to fill this gap by exploring how Irish-trained PAs are integrating into healthcare teams from the viewpoints of PAs as well as their team members
