Instance segmentation using adapter-finetuned foundation models
AI research and applications have experienced a paradigm shift with the emergence of foundation models. Although these models deliver state-of-the-art results across a broad spectrum of tasks, their exponential increase in size necessitates methods for parameterefficient training. To tackle this, the integration of adapter modules represents a promising yet compact strategy, offering remarkable performance by incorporating a minimal number of parameters for each specific task. This research proposes the "repetitive adapter module", designed to add a layer of linear scalability to the traditional bottleneck architecture. By integrating these modules into the foundational models SEEM and Mask DINO and applying them to three downstream tasks, the approach is demonstrated nearly reaching the effectiveness of traditional fine-tuning methods while requiring significantly fewer trainable parameters. Furthermore, the thesis highlights the applicability of repetitive adapters within the modular meta-architecture underlying SEEM and Mask DINO, proving their effectiveness disregarding model size and multi-modality. This investigation also explores the limitations of adapter fine-tuning, laying the groundwork for future research in this domain

An Augmented Reality Application for Wound Management: Enhancing Nurses’ Autonomy, Competence and Connectedness
The use of Augmented Reality glasses opens up many possibilities in hospital care, as they facilitate treatments and their documentation. In this paper, we present a prototype for the HoloLens 2 supporting wound care and documentation. It was developed in a participatory process with nurses using the positive computing paradigm, with a focus on the improvement of the working conditions of nursing staff. In a qualitative study with 14 participants, the factors of autonomy, competence and connectedness were examined in particular. It was shown that good individual adaptability and flexibility of the system with respect to the work task and personal preferences lead to a high degree of autonomy. The availability of the right information at the right time strengthens the feeling of competence. On the one hand, the connection to patients is increased by the additional information in the glasses, but on the other hand, it is hindered by the unusual appearance of the device and the lack of eye contact. In summary, the potential of Augmented Reality glasses in care was confirmed, and approaches for a well-being-centered system design were identified but, at the same time, a number of future research questions, including the effects on patients, were also identified
Democratizing User Research for Future Mobility with PLAYMOBIL®
In order to ensure that new technological advancements are inclusive, it is essential to understand and empathize with the diverse life situations and needs of various user groups. The participatory design (PD) approach is particularly effective in capturing these needs and democratizing the technology development process. Modern PD methods actively involve potential users, external stakeholders, and non-designer team members. Thus, it is important to identify engaging tools and methods suitable for diverse participants. This paper examines the use of serious play methods with PLAYMOBIL®. It presents the authors’ experiences with integrating serious play methods with PLAYMOBIL® in future mobility research. The findings indicate that, despite some challenges, this approach effectively promotes diversity and inclusion in user research, offering valuable insights into the needs and concerns of various user groups

A Quantitative Method to Impact and Shape the Digital Mindset of Organizations
An advanced digital mindset is essential for organizations to drive digital transformation
and adapt to ever-changing market demands effectively. To fully realize the potential of
digital transformation, it is necessary to investigate the impact of a digital mindset on
digital competencies, motivation, personal skills, entrepreneurial orientation, and
personality traits. In the present study, a quantitative research methodology was
applied, and a model was developed and tested using reliability analyses, exploratory
factor analyses, and regression analyses. The study results show that the digital mindset
positively impacts digital skills, motivation, entrepreneurial orientation, personal skills,
and personality traits, with high correlations between these dimensions. The study
extends the existing literature by developing a comprehensive model that links a digital
mindset with digital skills, entrepreneurial orientation, motivation, personal skills, and
personality traits. It is recommended that organizations foster a culture of innovation to
increase a proactive, innovative, and digital mindse
