How to measure disagreement as a premise for learning from controversy in a social media context
Development of a low-cost radar-based sensor system for passenger detection in automotive applications
In this scientific research, an innovative sensor system is developed to prevent child heatstrokes in vehicles. The system incorporates a 24 GHz Continuous-Wave (CW) radar system, which identifies vital signs of an infant through a 4-by-1 patch antenna array embedded in a specifically designed circuit board. Intelligent signal processing algorithms analyze data generated by the radar chip and execute processing tasks on a robust microcontroller. The child’s respiration
rate can be extracted qualitatively from the data in nearly real-time, enabling the system to differentiate between a child and a mere shopping bag on the seat. In the event of identifying a critical condition, the system transmits this information via a data bus to a central ECU within the vehicle. This ECU is integrated with GSM and GPS connections, allowing communication with the driver or emergency services. The development of the sensor system adheres to existing
automotive industry standards, featuring a cost-effective design intended as a prototype for large-scale production. Through rigorous evaluation across various scenarios, including realworld
situations with children, the sensor system is refined. The continuously reliable function of the developed radar-based sensor system holds the potential to save children’s lives, making
a major contribution to automotive safety
Digital Transformation in the Craft Sector Identifying Digital Competencies and Attitudes for Managers and Employees
Digital skills and attitudes are increasingly crucial for driving
digital transformation forward. On the other hand, craft enterprises
are still traditionally positioned and need more concrete digital
competencies and attitudes. This study focuses on the craft sector-
specific digital competencies and attitudes. To this end, a literature
search was conducted initially, and mixed methods were
subsequently used. The study conducted two focus group
discussions with experts from the craft sector. The results show that
technological competencies, professional competencies,
information processing competencies, personal competencies, and
digital mindset are the most critical characteristics for managers in
the skilled crafts sector. Technological competencies,
communication competencies, personality traits, and personal
competencies are essential for employees in the craft sector. The
competencies and attitudes identified for the craft sector are the first
approaches for developing a digital mindset model for the craft
sector
Using Focus Group Interviews to Examine Biased Experiences in Human-Robot-Interaction
When deploying interactive agents like (social) robots in public spaces they need to be able to interact with a diverse audience, with members each having individual diversity characteristics and prior experiences with interactive systems. To cater for these various predispositions, it is important to examine what experiences citizens have made with interactive systems and how these experiences might create a bias towards such systems. To analyze these bias-inducing experiences, focus group interviews have been conducted to learn of citizens’ individual discrimination experiences, their attitudes towards and arguments for and against the deployment of social robots in public spaces. This extended abstract focuses especially on the method and measurement of diversity

Characteristics in Digital Organizational Culture: A Literature Review
Organizational culture is an important aspect that supports a successful digital transformation in
companies. It is an essential component of Digital Transformation and requires a crucial development of
competencies, characteristics, and attitudes to create acceptance and openness among employees and
managers and enable organizations to adapt to the transformation. This paper deals with the main
characteristics and implications of digital organizational culture. A systematic literature review was
conducted for the methodology. The identified characteristics were integrated into the defined dimensions
(digital communication, proactivity, entrepreneurial orientation, personal competencies, and digital skills
and attitudes). The results show that, e.g., fault tolerance, innovation, digital skills, and an agile mindset
are central to developing a digital organizational culture. Furthermore, some characteristics (participation,
teamwork, agile mindset, digital skills, problem-solving, risk-taking) positively affect the digital
organizational culture. New research questions are derived from the results, which still show a need for
research in IS researc
